Shadowverse: Champion's Battle is a meaty game with so many layers to it, the game does a good job at getting new players accustomed but there's quite a bit to learn.
Samurai Warriors 5 is a fun addition to the Warrior franchise, its rebooted story mode and re-imagined visuals feel fresh making this a great entry point for newcomers. However, for fans who have been playing these games since the first one, it will feel like the same hack and slash affair as before. Nonetheless, the new emphasis on character development is its saving grace by giving the players more to think about. Overall it’s still a solid Musou game that could be the starting point of a cool new direction for the series.
It has all the makings of a great fighter but just feels slightly sluggish in several areas. Although this is a nice first step in what could be a promising series from developers nWay and I look forward to what they do next with this franchise.
This may please fans of the series but other than the overhaul in graphics I feel it plays too much like its predecessors. That being said, this is still a great starting point for those wanting to experience the Disgaea franchise or those looking for a solid tactical JRPG.
Jin Conception is a great concept but the initial gameplay may scare gamers off. Nonetheless, players who stick to it will be rewarded with a long adventure that spans around 20 hours to complete. There are some very nice ideas presented here but not all of them hit the mark, with a few bugs that also hindered my experience. However, for all its flaws Jin Conception isn't a bad game, with the visuals and music being great throughout with some of the game's mechanics improving as you progress.
Narita Boy is definitely one of the best looking indie platformers I've ever seen with it's unique art style and captivating music. It's neo-retro style mixed with religious themes make it unlike anything that's on the market today. The emphasis on combat shows with its well worked mechanics and engaging system. However Narita Boy does leave you wanting more from its exploration and platforming parts. But I did enjoy my time with Narita Boy and it's definitely one to pick up.
Pumpkin Jack is a pleasant surprise just in time for Halloween, the overall design is amazing considering it comes from a single developer. The six levels offer enough variety and challenge as to not get repetitive and as this will take about 5-6 hours to complete on the first run players will come back to get all the hidden items for extra skins. However, the gameplay feels slightly dated, visually the quality really drops in handheld mode if playing on the Switch and the camera needs to be a bit more reactive especially as the platforming requires precision at a fast pace.
Zoids Wild: Blast Unleashed has done a great job in creating a faith anime fighter for the fans, with the in-depth story mode and inclusion of DLC characters adding lot of value. Saying that, seasoned gamers will probably get a couple of matches out of this before finding it massively repetitive, but fans will keep picking this up to complete all the modes.
Jump Force Deluxe is definitely an anime fans dream come true, being able to pick from one of over 50 characters with more on the way is epic. Fans will gain countless hours from mixing and matching various teams of their favourite Shonen Jump heroes. However, other than the fan service, players may find it hard to return to Jump Force Deluxe after a few sessions due the lack of depth in gameplay, shallow story mode and severe lag when playing online.
Saying this Fairy Tail RPG will be a pleasant experience for the fans, there just is not enough there to make it stand out from other RPGS on the market other than it’s namesake.
Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris will certainly be a welcome addition to the gaming series as it’s the only one to follow a portion of the original story.
Ys: Memories of Celceta is certainly a mixed bag whilst it doesn't really bring anything new to JPRGs, but then again it doesn't have to. Years after its initial release the accessible combat system and enthralling battles make this still a hard one to put down. Nihon Falcom should have really taken advantage of PS4 performance power to give the fans a visually pleasing game. However players should look past it’s failings as there is so much depth to be discovered, making Ys: Memories of Celceta a must have for any action JRPG lover especially if you’re new to the series.
There’s plenty of replay value, and hardcore fans will relish trying to get all the multiple endings. You shouldn’t expect an high octane action RPG, but rather a real life romantic novel filled with in-depth emotion and over the top scenes.
if you’re a hardcore fan who loves reliving the epic endeavours of one best Mangas of all time then this is for you, decent size story mode with plenty of replay value with the online and adventure modes.
One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 is a huge game that allows players to relive iconic battles like never before, playing as one of the 40 plus characters. There's so much for fans and newcomers to enjoy but nothing new or special to stop the game becoming monotonous after a while. Also the same problems that I feel have plagued musou games still exist, disappointing camera control which isn't awful but can make boss battles a pain at times. The difference in difficulty between bosses and grunts is like Heaven and Earth. They are pretty much useless and wait to be killed, they just need to put up a fight.
Dead or School exceeds in delivering a fast pace hack and slash adventure that will keep players engrossed. There's enough extra content away from the main story to keep perfectionist playing till they completed 100% of the game. The weapon customisation and Skill tree is enough to keep players wanting to revisit levels and try out different combinations. However Dead or School does suffer from repetitive and dull enemies, even when attacking in hordes they don't prove much of a threat.
Fans of the anime will be overjoyed by the sheer amount of playable characters, both hero and monster favourites from the first season are here.
PGA Tour 2K23 is by far the best game in the series, with all its gameplay changes improving its accessibility. Being able to pick from a diverse range of professional male and female golfers for the first time is fantastic. The new gaming mechanics and deep customisation is a real testament to the developer's endeavours to give the fans an experience like no other.
Life is Strange Arcadia Bay Collection is a faithful remaster with its new visual enhancements greatly improving the overall experience. The Nintendo Switch version is a great way to experience these classic titles for the first time, especially with all the episodes in one place.
Tunic is a certified gem that's filled with so many different layers, which keep it original from its inspirations. The level of detail and hidden depth is outstanding for an indie title that shows what can be achieved with clever designs and meticulous planning.
