Critic Reviews for Tux and Fanny
This endearing adventure feels like a fever-dream Flash game you discovered in the 00s and could never find again
A toy box sprawled out onto the floor of game development, Tux and Fanny is a brilliant mini-game parlour, with a satisfying narrative to match when it isn't too busy trying to be a stoner-inspired stream of consciousness.
Tux and Fanny may have slipped under your radar in 2021 — I’m begging you to right that wrong and play it in 2022. If you find the joy in small things and believe that big, crazy things can be found even in the most mundane places, Tux and Fanny is the title for you. For such a lighthearted game, there’s a lot of soul in it; you’ll soon find yourself devouring every last ludicrous discovery, sad to leave the duo when you’ve completed their journey. As far as I’m concerned, Tux and Fanny is my pick for gAmE oF tHe YeAr 2021, the simple, silly, slice of life stories shared between friends a wonderful experience worth having.
In following these threads, Tux and Fanny transcends its original art style by introducing new games - literally found on floppy discs hidden in the world - that are essential to Tux and Fanny's lives. In these games within the game, the pixelated characters may enter a surreal 3D world, turn to claymation, or find themselves rendered in watercolor paint. Heck, there's even a home simulation video game that has me playing a looped section over and over again; the loop changes slightly each time, eventually descending into nonsense. And yet, it makes complete sense.
