Pikmin 1+2 is a brilliant package for people who have been missing the games since the GameCube/Wii or gamers curious about why Pikmin is so beloved. If you are coming in from Pikmin 3 or the recently released Pikmin 4 then these titles will feel painfully barebones. If you can look beyond the age or perhaps play in order of release you’ll see that just like the Pikmin, humble beginnings spout into beautiful flowers.

Pikmin 1 + 2 could be a good opportunity for Nintendo Switch players who want to experience original games, but it is a scarce game in terms of adding new things. Pricing is a bit inconvenient for replaying games with only high resolution graphics.

It’s been a pleasant trip down memory lane with both Pikmin 1 and 2, and if you’ve never had a chance to experience either game, I’d say they are both highly recommended and stand the test of time quite well. Neither game is particularly long, and while 2 can be challenging at times, both are pretty friendly to new players and work as a solid primer for the upcoming release of Pikmin 4. Definitely check them out when you get a chance, you won’t be disappointed.

Just like it was in 2001, Pikmin 1 remains a unique and wildly inventive strategy adventure that deserves everyone's time and attention. There's nothing new in this version; all that's been done is an HD upscale, a controversial new control scheme, and a handful of quality-of-life tweaks, but the core Pikmin 1 experience is so polished and timeless that it's impossible not to recommend it.

Pikmin 1 not only gave me an extremely enjoyable and fun experience, but also made me want to enjoy all of its sequels. With visuals that remain quite charming and, above all, with solid, functional and indescribably fun gameplay, this is a game that justifies its arrival on Switch and deserves to be checked out by any video game lover.

For better or for worse, this is now the easiest and most practical way to play Pikmin, and figure out why has this franchise managed to stand the test of time for so long. I particularly didn’t understand the hype. To me, Pikmin is average at best. It’s a game that has aged poorly, especially when it comes to these dated controls. The fact this wasn’t even a remaster, but a bare bones upscaled port of a game from 2001, certainly didn’t help. It did nothing to fix its many issues, nor did it receive improvements in its visuals, audio, or performance.
