Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance is what the 2021 game was supposed to be: an objectively better product and great to play, even if it does fall into some similar errors to its predecessor and stumbles in the narrative.

It’s clear that a lot of effort has gone into the creation of this enhanced version of Shin Megami Tensei V. With a whole new side of the story to play, new endings to uncover and a ton of new demons to collect, it cements itself as the definitive way to now experience SMTV whether it’s your first time going in, or if you have the itch to re-experience it.
Those who played the 2021 release will find every feature improved, and with the delightful additions, it is the best way to experience Shin Megami Tensei V. The numerous quality-of-life improvements implemented also serve to make this title a fine entry point to those jumping into the franchise, while still providing enough challenge for those who seek it.
While not my favorite Shin Megami Tensei game, I cannot recommend Shin Megami Tensei V enough. And with the Canon of Vengeance included, it’s a must for any RPG fan.
It's not an exaggeration to say that this is Atlus' best revision to date, taking a 7/10 RPG and polishing it to near perfection. There are still some flaws, of course – the Canon of Creation will always leave a lot to be desired and the level design can be a bit hit or miss – but Vengeance redefines Shin Megami Tensei V with a vengeance. This is a JRPG with hundreds of hours of gameplay on tap and arguably the game Shin Megami Tensei V should have always been. Don't miss out on Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance. We're only halfway through 2024, but it's already one of the best RPGs of the year.
Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance is a product that once again proves Atlus right. We may completely disagree with the work done in the re-edition phase and especially with this policy adopted by the Japanese publisher, which after a few years releases an improved version of something made shortly before, but in the end, we must admit that Vengeance is the result of an excellent correction of some of the excessive elements of the original.

With the various new party members, you can get through Demon Fusion, you’ll be able to repeatedly smash those demons together. Even if you’ve played the original, you should give this a second go because of all the new features and enhancements that boost the game’s quality. Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance is also an excellent starting point for anyone unfamiliar with the series or even this particular game.
Atlus re-releases can be a hard sell for those who experienced the original launches. Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance definitley fits into that category for narrative reasons, with the new Canon of Vengeance route not executing its captivating premise strongly due to mishandled opportunities and rushed pacing.
Overall, Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance took an excellent release and just made it better. The new areas are great, new demons spice up the already crazy roster you could obtain and the Vengeance story path really shows off the game’s characters in a new light. This game is well worth the $59.99 price tag for anyone who doesn’t own the initial release, and even if you do I still think there is enough new content here to warrant a purchase. Now if you will excuse me, I have some post-game demons to round up!
Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance improves upon the original game in every way, with the new storyline, improved visuals, and countless additions helping it stand out as an outstanding RPG experience. The original game was already a treat thanks to its thrilling combat, captivating demon negotiations, and tense storytelling, but this REALLY ups the ante. If you played the game when it originally released, the new Canon of Vengeance storyline alone makes it worth the price of admission. And if this is your first experience with Shin Megami Tensei V? Getting to play it with gorgeous visuals and smooth performance, improvements such as saving in the overworld and auto-battling, and having additional demons, skillsets, and more to embrace will ensure it’ll stand out as an unforgettable experience.
Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance expands the base game with new content, improved performance, and deeper lore. Despite the challenging difficulty, the added quality-of-life improvements make it a rewarding experience for both returning players and newcomers.
I can safely say that, with or without the additional horsepower, the QoL updates, the very real and massive expansion, and the entire new game arc makes Shin Megami Tensei V – Vengeance the biggest package I’ve ever seen from an SMT title. It might not have the three hundred hour target of something like Persona 5 Royale, but it does have a sprawling, captivating, and positively enthralling appeal that gives you all the demons and none of the dating aspects.
The term “definitive” is often overused, especially with game re-releases, but it perfectly encapsulates Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance. The latest additions and gameplay changes make this the ultimate version to own, and if you played the original, taking the dive once again on more powerful hardware will yield impressive results. Atlus has meticulously crafted Vengeance to cater to both newcomers and veterans who have completed the original game. Shin Megami Tensei V returns, now more accessible to a broader audience, and it truly lives up to its name.
Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance stands as the ultimate version of an already exceptional game, delivering a rich and expanded experience for both new and returning players. With its new storyline path, expanded demon roster, enhanced gameplay mechanics, and increased level cap, it offers a fresh and engaging journey through a world of angels and demons. The added strategic depth through innate and Magatsuhi skills, along with the increased challenge from new difficulty modes, ensures that players will find plenty of reasons to dive back into the game’s dark and captivating universe. Whether it be a gripping new quest for Vengeance or the classic saga of creation and destruction, Vengeance promises an immersive and rewarding adventure that redefines the Shin Megami Tensei V experience.
Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance adds a lot to an already packed title from Atlus.
Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance is the definitive package that makes a great role-playing game even better. Quality of life changes alongside and all-new storyline makes this a must-have RPG and one of the best releases of the year.
Vengeance is undoubtedly the definitive and best way to play Shin Megami Tensei V, with a fantastic new narrative path and quality-of-life adjustments that are so good you wonder how the game was released without them.
Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance allows the original SMT 5 to spread its wings a bit more with excellent systematic refinements that brings the former Nintendo Switch exclusive to modern systems. If the improved gameplay and visuals weren't enough, the all-new Canon of Vengeance shakes up the original campaign just enough to provide a refreshing new experience.
