Super Meat Boy 3D successfully preserves the fast-paced, challenging gameplay fans expect, offering plenty of content for those who enjoy mastering difficult platforming. However, its shift to 3D reduces precision and introduces camera and control issues. While some will enjoy the added freedom, others may find it frustrating, making it a solid but imperfect evolution.

The only drawback of Super Meat Boy 3D is that it may alert tourists due to its heart-stopping difficulty. This may be a problem because tourists are loud and ruin the fun for people who enjoy their games spicy and intense. If you squint your eyes, it kind of looks like you are playing Super Mario in hell.

Super Meat Boy 3D does some really cool stuff fantastically well, and it's incredibly satisfying, but unfortunately, the game is very unbalanced in this regard. It's a real shame, as with a bit of polishing, this title could easily be one of the best speed-based, skill challenge-style 3D platformers. For fans of Meat Boy, this game is a no-brainer; for others, it might be a little undercooked.

Super Meat Boy 3D is the punishing and challenging game you expect, but it lacks the personality of the original and odd camera angles make it tricky.

For the most part, the transition to 3D was successful - the new game is about as hard to put down as Super Meat Boy was in 2010. Sadly, in some levels you have to fight with the camera rather than the traps and hazards that Meat Boy encounters.

The sequel to the highly challenging adrenaline-pumping third-dimensional platformer will bring you dramatic moments and (again) many deaths. The camera angles that aren't always suitable will make things even more difficult.

Super Meat Boy 3D is a highly successful attempt to bring the series to the third dimension, retaining the brand's core elements: fast pace, high precision, and the immense satisfaction of overcoming obstacles. Not everything works perfectly, as the camera and spatial awareness can be jarring at times, and the bosses clearly fall short of the excellently designed levels. Despite this, it's a strong, challenging platformer that demonstrates that Team Meat isn't cutting corners and can truly surprise fans.

Great controls with tight level design that encourage the player to replay it over and over again to get the best time and find the collectibles. Yet, too many times I felt like the meat was left cooking too long. It's bent into very specific ways to adhere to that original game, instead of standing on its own two meaty legs.

Super Meat Boy 3D modernises the 2D classic in such a fleshed-out and meaty way that it's really quite scrumptious what they cooked up. 🥩

Super Meat Boy 3D is the exact opposite of the unsuccessful experiment that was Super Meat Boy Forever. On the contrary, this new installment truly succeeds in bringing the series back into the spotlight without compromising its identity, emerging not only as a worthy sequel to the original but also as a solid 3D platformer that works perfectly even outside its traditional audience.

Dying, repeating, and jumping again still works wonderfully, but the new 3D perspective introduces unfair deaths and a noticeable loss of identity compared with the original classic.

It is neither a revolution nor a triumphant return to the top of the genre, but rather a sincere attempt to push the series in a new direction — one that comes with both strengths and weaknesses.

By the time the credits roll on Super Meat Boy 3D, the overriding impression is of a project that is both bold and self-aware – one that respects its heritage while fully confronting the challenges of reinvention. This is not simply another sequel, but a deliberate reworking of the series’ core identity: an attempt to carry an almost flawless formula into a fundamentally different space, with all the risks that entails. What stands out most is the developers’ refusal to rely on past success. A safer, more predictable continuation of the 2D formula would have been easy to justify. Instead, Super Meat Boy 3D takes the more demanding route: evolution. That choice alone signals a clear intent to expand the series rather than preserve it unchanged. In gameplay terms, much of what defined the original Super Meat Boy remains intact – precision, responsiveness, and a relentless, failure-driven loop that rewards persistence and mastery. The core satisfaction is still there, rooted in overcoming difficulty through repetition and improvement. The transition to 3D, however, introduces unavoidable compromises. The immediate clarity of the 2D plane gives way to greater spatial complexity, with camera control and depth perception occasionally affecting readability. The result is not necessarily a worse experience, but a less direct one – more layered, less instinctive, and at times less “pure.” The challenge endures, but its delivery changes. Crucially, Super Meat Boy 3D does not replace its predecessor; it complements it. Where the original stands as a near-perfect expression of 2D platforming, this entry explores a broader, more complex direction. It does not always improve on what came before, but it offers something distinct – an alternative shaped by its own ambitions. Despite its shifts, the game retains a strong identity. Its irreverent tone, visual style, and uncompromising design philosophy remain consistent throughout. Even when the move to 3D exposes limitations, the underlying vision holds firm. Ultimately, this is a game defined more by its ambition than by absolute execution. It demands patience, adaptability, and a willingness to engage with a more complex, less immediate structure. It is not designed for everyone, but for players willing to embrace its demands, it delivers a challenging and rewarding experience. In the end, Super Meat Boy 3D stands as a bold, imperfect evolution – one that may lack the purity of its predecessor, but succeeds in carving out a distinct identity. It is divisive, occasionally uneven, yet undeniably purposeful – and for that reason, difficult to ignore.

Super Meat Boy 3D is an interesting new take on a well-known premise. Not everything works perfectly—the switch to 3D makes it harder to see, move precisely, and maintain the mechanics.

Super Meat Boy 3D succeeds in the feat of translating all the hallmarks of an inherently two-dimensional series into a thrilling 3D platformer. Team Meat and Sluggerfly have created a new incarnation of the iconic indie game that debuted sixteen years ago, yet one that retains the same gritty, edgy identity. Once again, we’re faced with an extremely demanding title that requires high precision and Olympian calm, yet offers immense satisfaction thanks to its absolutely rich and satisfying content—even if there are a few inaccuracies in the spatial perception of this new iteration. At the same time, the franchise remains, as it always has, not for everyone: but if you’re among those who love being pushed to the limits of your skills (and your patience), this is the game for you.

Super Meat Boy 3D had a mountain of expectations to climb, and against all odds, it conquered them. While the autoscrolling boss fights are a frustrating misstep and the grotesque 3D art style will undoubtedly divide fans, the moment-to-moment gameplay is spectacular. Sluggerfly has successfully translated the unforgiving, blisteringly fast magic of 2010 into a new dimension. If you have the patience to die a few hundred times and the foresight to tweak the default control settings, this is a spectacular, bloody return to form. – Flare

Super Meat Boy 3D is the return of the king of pain. A worthy sequel to this indie icon. Minor stumbles in its presentation don't tarnish the franchise's reputation, especially with precise controls, the same charisma as always, and the progressive increase in difficulty, making this a great addition to the current platforming game scene.
