PUBG was the original battle royale, but has largely been passed over by many contenders since 2017. Now, PUBG New State hopes to reclaim the throne for the series. PUBG New State is a full sequel built exclusively for mobile. It moves the PUBG universe into the future, the year 2051 to be exact. Its reveal, including gameplay and a hint at some major changes, can be seen in this reveal trailer.

New features like weapon customization, ballistic shields, and drone attacks are being added to further enhance the range of gameplay options for players while also treating this world like a decidedly different one than the PUBG players are used to. The new map, curiously named TROI, will be 8x8 in size, putting it on par with the behemoth that is Erengel, PUBG's original map.

This marks the second game in the PUBG universe to be announced over the last few months, and it's the first-ever proper sequel to the 2017 breakout hit. Last year, The Callisto Protocol was revealed as a single-player horror game. It looked a lot like Dead Space, which is why it was surprising to learn the game takes place in the same story universe a the battle royale. According to an interview with Bloomberg last year, there is yet another game set in this shared universe planned for consoles and PC in 2022.

Alpha tests are planned for PUBG New State later this year. Pre-registration will open soon for iOS and Android devices, and the game will launch in 2021.
