A new update is coming to New Pokémon Snap

It has been announced that a free update will soon be released for New Pokémon Snap (via Polygon). The update will drop on August 3rd. The free update will add three additional areas to the game, as well as 20 new Pokémon. A trailer was released for the update (which can be seen here), and showed Pokémon such as Gyrados, Feraligatr, and Swalot.

The three areas being added to New Pokémon Snap are Secret Side Path, Mightywide River, and Barren Badlands. Each of these new areas will receive both day and night versions. The Mightywide River has players float down a river, and includes an section where players ride a river rapid. The Barren Badlands has gamers explore red rocky cliffs. The trailer shows an Onyx poke out from a hole in the cliff. Finally, in the Secret Side Path, players will be shrunken down and be able to get up close to smaller Pokémon that will now seem giant.

New Pokémon Snap was released this past April. It was the long-awaited sequel to the original Pokémon Snap, which released in 1999. The game has received a Strong OpenCritic Rating, a Top Critic Average of 80, and Critics Recommend score of 76%. New Pokémon Snap takes players to the Lental region, where they can explore a number of different environments as they take pictures of Pokémon in their natural states. These environments include beaches, forests, jungles, and deserts. Players can even toss fruit at Pokémon to get their attention, and cause them to act out in special ways that gamers can photograph. The Lental region is also home to the Illumina Phenomenon. This causes both Pokémon and plants to glow, and is something that is researched in the game.

New Pokémon Snap is available now for the Nintendo Switch.
