Former Mortal Kombat guest character Spawn is making his long-awaited return to the franchise, albeit in the Mortal Kombat Mobile spin-off rather than Mortal Kombat 1. NetherRealm’s Mortal Kombat games have featured special guest appearances from comics, movies, and other video games, ranging from God of War’s Kratos being a PlayStation-exclusive DLC character in 2011’s Mortal Kombat 9 to Omni-Man, Peacemaker, and Homelander enforcing their twisted brands of justice in Mortal Kombat 1.
Todd McFarlane’s legendary anti-hero Spawn already had his own rich history in video games by the time he was included as a guest DLC combatant in Mortal Kombat 11, having previously appeared in the Xbox version of Soulcalibur 2. In Mortal Kombat 11, however, Spawn retained his brutal nature as an undead solider armed with the power of the underworld, with Keith David reprising his role from the HBO Spawn animated series from the 1990s. Spawn would later turn up as a playable skin in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, but MK fans have been hoping to see him return to their favorite fighting franchise.
