Warner Bros. Games officially acquired Player First Games, the developer of MultiVersus, in its newest addition to its collection of studios. MultiVersus launched in May 2024, after beta releases over the past couple of years. The 2D side-scrolling platform fighter lets players battle it out as various Warners Bros. characters, from Bugs Bunny to Superman. This was the first release from Player First Games, and it was met with mostly positive reception from audiences.
Player First Games has been around since 2019, but it just released its first game, which launched the studio into success. The game, MultiVersus, is freely available, with a large cast of characters and new events to keep players engaged. Like many free-to-play games, MultiVersus offers in-game purchases, with microtransactions like battle passes offering unique skins or other cosmetic mods. There's also a storefront to easily allow players to purchase premium cosmetic upgrades for their favorite characters. Most of these purchases only change the aesthetics and have no impact on the gameplay or rewards offered. The easily accessible nature of the game drew in a lot of curious players, creating the studio's first successful launch.
