It may spread itself a little thin in pulling from so many influences, but Beyond Galaxyland offers a decent story, intriguing graphic design, and compelling combat dynamics.
Oracle of Seasons is a nostalgic game with all the ingredients of an excellent adventure game, but the core season-changing mechanic is not implemented well.
Wannabe detectives and lovers of the occult need to check out The Case of the Golden Idol. Just make sure to play the original PC release.
Castlevania Dominus Collection brings together three classics of the genre that are still worthwhile in a loving, complete package.
A brisk cooperative romp that feels like a sugar high that lasts just as long.
This revamp of The Answer improves the original experience, but that experience still mostly revolves around hours of dungeon crawling.
A quality combination of pixel-art, turn-based JRPG, and Metroidvania. A recipe for monster-collection success.
Celestia: Chain of Fate is a sizable and engaging romantic fantasy visual novel.
A trip down memory lane for some that excels in parts, but feels opaque for much of the journey.
The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel - Northern War is an average mobile RPG adaptation of an enjoyable anime side story, bogged down by a horrible translation.
An unmissable exemplar of its genre and video game storytelling at its absolute finest.
No objections here! The Ace Attorney Investigations Collection are an incredible pair of games, and worthy spin-offs from the main series.
Date A Live: Ren Dystopia is an engaging visual novel that series fans will enjoy. What Date A Live fan wouldn’t want to experience hijinks with their favorite characters and meet a new one who could potentially become a favorite? The game is hollow without prior exposure to the Date A Live light novels, anime, and especially the Rio-Reincarnation visual novel (with all its included extras), so I recommend Ren Dystopia to established fans only.
Though Wasteland Remastered missed some opportunities to better cater to the current generation, the core product is likely worth exploring for fans of CRPGs and/or Fallout fans.
The base humor lands because of quality presentation and good comedic timing, though certainly caters to a specific demographic.
A dystopian detective noir focused on two flawed, likable people unraveling a curious mystery.
A wonderful return to form for the Mana series. Visions of Mana will have longtime fans grinning from ear-to-ear.
Despite Gestalt: Steam & Cinder's gameplay and story pitfalls, it remains an enjoyable romp.
It wouldn’t be wrong to label Fairy Tail: Dungeons as Baby’s First Roguelike, though that might be selling the surprisingly crunchy gameplay experience short. Veterans have plenty to dig into, even if they might ultimately breeze through it. It can also be an entertaining entry point into the niche roguelike genre, which can be an acquired taste. I wish there were more of it, so here’s hoping there will be someday.
A massive success from an up-and-coming studio, Black Myth: Wukong will hold your attention most of the way through with variety in gameplay, storytelling, characters, and level design.
