Riko and Reg's descent to the netherworld is a classic in existential dread and worldbuilding. Playing in this broken world imparts an even worse sense of dread.
Agony is one of the biggest disappointments this year. Its excellent atmosphere is butchered by frustrating and repetitive gameplay and an abysmal technical performance
A repetitive and dull gameplay loop that's thematically allergic to the game's cast of misfits only begins to describe how heartbreakingly disappointing Kill the Justice League truly is. Rocksteady should've died a hero, instead, it's lived long enough to see itself become the villain.
A good heart and strong sense of design can’t elevate Adventures of Chris out of its lacklustre platforming and mixed messaging on body issues.
With a little more polish and player-driven feedback, The Cleaner could well emulate a proper first-person John Wick experience. However currently, it feels a little more like a frustration emulator designed to inspire rage quits.
Rustler brings classic Grand Theft Auto to a twisted version of the European Middle Ages, but its reliance on other media for laughs and a finicky release build makes it a title worth trying only for those nostalgic for the vintage entries of a now-juggernaut series.
A bunch of good ideas and a great setting just don't stand up in the face of terrible execution
The indie video game scene has made huge strides and seen so many successes in representing issues of mental health lately that it hurts that much more when a game falls this far short
Past Cure starts off as a promising and ambitious shooter/thriller combo whose ideas are brought undone by inexperience
While Mecho Tales offers players a trip down 2D platforming memory lane, it sadly isn’t a trip worth remembering
Despite a promising World War II setting where you're encouraged to steal from Hitler, the real thieves turn out to be the developers for designing a time and money wasting jaunt
Elex is an unfortunate case of an intriguing world ruined by most of game which the world is tied to. With average gameplay, horrid combat, bad voice acting, bad sound design and a myriad of technical issues, Elex does little to encourage players to invest time in its vast landscapes, deep RPG mechanics and interesting ideas.
A game with incredible graphics and brilliant sound design that is brought down by a middling campaign and murdered by a confused and unbalanced multiplayer
Less a game and more of a teaser, Leaving Lyndow ends up making a terrible impression
A pretty but boring infinite runner ported from mobile to console continues to be pretty and boring, only at an even deer-er price point
The game leans heavily on its visuals and sound but can't sell its simplistic gameplay
There is a fundamentally good, core Darkest Dungeon-like experience somewhere underneath this rushed, languid, and poorly executed turn-based rogue-lite.
An impressively intuitive control scheme and accurate ball physics hint at an enjoyable tennis experience, but a lack of meaningful content and a busted online mode end up costing Tennis On-Court the game, set and match.
Layers of Fear is an admirable remaster that uses the fresh coat of paint to bring the series' art direction up to modern standards but the bones of the experience remain fractured. Tedious and exhausting gameplay loops and tasteless writing make even this package a nice frame on an ugly painting.
A disappointing take on open-world first-person shooters, Redfall has none of the flavour or mechanical finesse that we’ve come to expect from Arkane Studios.
