Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection is another standout title from Capcom, which has been on a tear with a string of outstanding releases. This is not an exception and shows how a spin-off can proceed to evolve and become successful in its own right. The habitat restoration system is superb, encouraging players to interact with the world in many ways and get rewarded for it. The game performs splendidly, looking and playing well at the same time, making for an enjoyable experience that even newcomers to the Monster Hunter series will appreciate. Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection is an essential experience and the best installment in the series.
If given a chance, God of War: Sons of Sparta proves itself to be a capable metroidvania, offering a layered combat system, an engaging quest line, and a rewarding narrative. That said, it demands patience from players, as the experience takes several hours to fully hit its stride. Once it does, the depth becomes clear, but those seeking instant gratification may find the slower build-up discouraging.
Tales of Berseria Remastered is puzzling. For those who have never played it, it is a great JRPG experience with arguably one of the best stories in the series, featuring a great protagonist. The improvements and additions to the game are very welcome and add value that make it the definitive edition to play. That said, if you've already played the PS4 or PC version, Tales of Berseria Remastered might feel unessential, adding stock to the questionable choice to remaster this title over the other ones that are locked behind older hardware. You can even just play the PS4 version on your PS5 already and get it over with, especially since the visual improvements are negligible unless you place both versions side by side.
Planet of Lana II: Children of the Leaf is a short but extremely sweet adventure that fans of the first game should dive into. With improvements across the board, it offers a cohesive experience brought together by platforming and puzzles that tickle the brain and provide satisfaction after all is said and done.
Resident Evil Requiem blends the atmospheric, harrowing survival-horror elements of Resident Evil VII with the refined gameplay of the recent Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4 remakes. It is a fantastic addition to the series, making it an unquestionable must-play day-one purchase for fans and newcomers. While the villains may not reach the heights of past antagonists, the overall package is undeniably fantastic. With strong performances, rewarding gameplay variety, and extras that encourage replayability, Resident Evil Requiem could be a Game of the Year contender and possibly one of the best games of 2026.
Nioh 3 feels like the culmination of lessons from past Nioh titles, resulting in a game that’s a significant step up and the best entry in the series. The addition of the Ninja Style is such a game-changer, offering a playstyle that feels distinct and really fun to use. There’s a lot to see and do in this game, with content maybe reaching close to 100 hours if you choose to exhaust all areas.
Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties is a welcome surprise from a title that many long-time fans, myself included, once considered the weakest entry in the Like A Dragon series. Where the original often felt overshadowed by its more explosive predecessors, the Kiwami remake breathes new life into this quieter chapter, elevating it into something far more memorable. Playing through Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties was a genuine joy, and it now feels like a worthy addition to the Kiwami brand of remakes.
My Hero Academia: All’s Justice is an essential experience for fans of the franchise and for enthusiasts of anime-inspired fighting games. The game is easy to get into, the default controls are accessible, and the roster offers a vast array of character combinations to explore. For solo players, the game offers plenty of variety without requiring multiplayer. You can relive the series’ storyline, tackle newly introduced mission modes, and even uncover original adventures that expand beyond the manga and anime, which is perfect for those seeking additional content.
Dragon Quest VII Reimagined is an example of a remake that understands exactly what made the original special, reinforcing those elements and addressing friction points to create an engaging experience. By streamlining the narrative, modernizing the job and combat systems, and adopting a gorgeous diorama art style, the once-maligned title has been turned around for the better.
Code Vein II delivers a sequel that offers a bigger experience compared to the first, but a better experience may be subjective. Sporting upgraded visuals and a narrative that spans time periods, its deeper combat systems are the star of the show, offering Jails, Formae, and swappable Blood Codes that provide remarkable build diversity, with new weapon archetypes like Rune Blades and Twin Blades that are great options. Despite the expansion of the anime souls formula, it still lacks some polish, limiting its potential due to performance issues and severe texture pop-ins. Ultimately, Code Vein II stands as an ambitious sequel that pushes the series into new territory, even if not all players will embrace its direction.
Skate Story is a vibes-heavy title, leading with its ultra-slick presentation and unique visuals to deliver a one-of-a-kind experience.
