Nintendo is taking handheld to the next level with today's announcement of the Switch Lite. It is designed from the ground up to be a portable device designed for fans of on-the-go gaming. Switch Lite will be available on September 20th for $199.99, a full $100 cheaper than its elder sibling. It comes in three colors: Yellow. turquoise and gray, as well as in a special Pokemon-themed edition.
While it is a definite Switch, it does lack some of the features of Switch. The Switch Lite features on board controls as opposed to joycons. In addition, it does not include a kickstand -- hence HANDheld -- and it cannot stream games to a television. Many of the games currently in the Switch library will be playable on the Switch Lite if they include the "handheld" symbol. At this point, we do not know how many or which games will be included.
Nintendo will be making a data transfer option available so that players can move saved game files from the Switch to the Switch Lite for compatible games. Battery life is said to be 3 to 7 hours.
