I can't much fault the Mega Man X Legacy Collection Volume 1 for what it is. All four of these games are varying degrees of good and it's nice to have them on my Switch. I just wish it wasn't quite so sterile.
Hyperlight Ultimate is still a great game, and now that it's on a modern console you should definitely play it.
Axiom Verge 2 is a fantastic evolution of Axiom Verge 1-it feels like a different game, but with enough gameplay and story connections to remain familiar. My issues with the protagonist and wayfinding pale in comparison to the addictive exploration and beautiful vistas that Axiom Verge 2 revels in, and I can't wait to speculate wildly about the storyline.
But the core gameplay—puzzle-solving with clones—is distinctly enjoyable. In a way, it reminded me of the Clank puzzles in Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time, but on a 2D plane. If that kind of puzzle-solving is up your ally, I'd give The Swapper a try.
In the end, Rainbow Curse is a good game that provides plenty of content for both single players and a group of friends. I'm annoyed by the length of some stages, however, and it's a real shame that the player controlling Kirby cannot have the same viewing experience that the others players have. Thankfully, the core gameplay remains very enjoyable and I can still recommend it—but you should know what you're getting into.
Swords & Soldiers isn't especially long, containing three campaigns with 10 missions apiece, but you can go into Skirmish mode for practice sessions and unlock some interesting mini-games. There's even an interesting two-player mode in which one player uses the GamePad and another play uses the TV and a Wii Remote, which is fantastic.
I like Edge a lot. It's addictive and elegant in its simplicity, and the geometric world is bizarrely engaging.
Runbow is a fantastic, colorful, energetic platformer with great style and plenty of content for both solo and group players. At the very least, it is definitely worthy of a spot in your "great multiplayer games" folder.
While Shutshimi is obviously meant to be a party game, it's very fun for the solo gamer as well. Once you start learning what items do what, you'll be able to avoid the ones you dislike and grab the ones you dig. Shushimi is a nice surprise—I highly recommend it.
NOVA-111 scratches a very particular itch that I didn't realize needed scratching.
I highly recommend Xeodrifter no matter what system you get it on—and by getting it on one, you'll automatically have it on both. It's a win-win!
If you already have the Legacy Collection on 3DS and are happy with it, I don't know how badly you need this Switch version. However, both volumes in addition to the upcoming Mega Man X collection, on a single console is awfully tempting prospect, right? It's like the GameCube all over again.
Turok: Dinosaur Hunter Remastered is the best possible way to experience this N64 classic, either on your TV or in Handheld/Tabletop Mode (where it performs flawlessly). Turok influenced a lot of first-person shooters that came after it, and it's still very enjoyable in 2018—thanks in large part to Night Dive's boatload of options. You don't wind up hunting a lot of dinosaurs, but you do manage to fight a Dimetrodon that has a minigun strapped to its back, which makes up for a lot.
The music is also surprisingly catchy. The Bug Butcher is a fun Pang-style romp that works in bursts or in longer play sessions—I found it a good game to play while catching up on TV shows. If you like this arcade game style, The Bug Butcher should definitely be on your radar.
Chibi-Robo: Zip-Lash is a fun game. It's got some frustrating moments (stage select, vehicles) but the highs outweigh the lows, and I like the Amiibo functionality. Give it a shot, kids.
Like its predecessor, I got enveloped in Project X Zone 2 and kind of hate myself for it. But I enjoy the hell out of it, and if hearing Chris Redfield call Leon "Future Leon" with a straight face is wrong, I don't want to be right.
UPDATE: I fixed the scaling issue. I just had to go into the Wii U Settings and shrink the bounding box a bit. Worked perfectly!
Aside from the griffin sequence, there's not a lot holding Darksiders: Warmastered Edition down. It remains an excellent heavy metal homage to Zelda games that's satisfying and quite lengthy. I enjoy it more than its sequel, although that's also a great game. The only real downside is that this game is on the Wii U, not the Switch, so it probably won't get the attention it deserves.
The game looks good, especially in 3D, and I like the minimalistic but electronica-inspired soundtrack. Hyperlight EX can be very hard, but it’s fun and scratches a couple itches I had. Give it a shot!
It's not perfect, but I'm having a good time with it. I encourage you to save often, though, because the game crashed on me three times and resulted in lost progress. Annoying, but at least it's not hard-locking the system.
