2 / 10.0 - WWE 2K18
Jan 23, 2018

It's a real shame that WWE's return to Nintendo systems is such a poor port of a game that already had problems. Alongside the glitches and bugs known in the other releases, we have a bevy of issues here, not limited to the terrible frame rate (especially in multi-man matches), the graphics downgrade, and tedious gameplay. Fans of both Nintendo and WWE deserved better than what we got here in this port.

4.5 / 10.0 - Funk of Titans
May 26, 2015

Funk of Titans is a game that kept my interest for a while, but ultimately it fails to deliver much beyond a few hours of play. The game is easy to play and get into, but there's not much variation in gameplay.

I don't hate WWE Battlegrounds. It's a much more arcadey style of game that I think is a better representation of what a pro wrestling game should be. But it does have its own set of problems in its lack of depth and aggressive microtransactions. I wouldn't mind seeing more from this series, but it needs some big changes to truly be a fun experience.

Sometimes trying to do so much dilutes what you're trying to accomplish, and This is The Police II is a prime example of that.

I rather like the idea of a Kirby mini game collection where you can play using various Kirby copy abilities and battle it out amongst friends. While Battle Royale lets you do just that, it feels like a concept or an idea as opposed to a full-fledged game. This is fun to play over a weekend, but not much beyond that.

It's also very nice to see a dead town turn into a thriving community before your very eyes; I just didn't expect to see it in about six hours. The most disheartening part of the game, though, are the NPCs who barely seem to exist in this world beyond saying "I like apples, please make me an apple house". While the charm of the series is fully represented here, the wit and deeper experiences of the franchise are not, and that leaves me feeling like the game overall is just a shallow title in a series that can do a lot more.

5 / 10.0 - Mighty No. 9
Jun 28, 2016

Mighty No. 9 isn't a bad game, but it's generic in gameplay quality and suffers from technical issues that hamper the experience. If you wanted a brand new 2D platforming experience in the vein of the old Mega Man games, then this is probably something worth your time. Just don't expect anything more beyond that, and be ready to restart your Wii U in case of a bug or two.

Both Assassin's Creed III and Liberation are titles worth investing time into. They contain tons of content that's fun, and the time setting makes for some interesting scenarios, but the technical issues for this Switch port aren't worth the trade off for being able to play on the go. These issues aren't bad enough that the Remastered editions on the Switch are an unplayable mess, but it's still a mess regardless.

I enjoyed the humor for what it was, and it doesn't take an overly long amount to time to clear. It's one of those games you can spend a day playing and not feel like you're being cheated out of anything if you never play it again. Shaq Fu's return won't earn the horrible reputation of its predecessor, but will probably be easily forgotten before the year is over.

I like some aspects of The Trail, such as the calm setting and the sense of fulfillment when finally crafting that recipe that you had been working on forever. But the negatives -- the framerate, controls, and uninteresting story -- do hamper the experience. They are manageable, and The Trail isn't necessarily a bad game. It has its moments, but technical limitations do put a damper on things.

However, there's far more memorable and interesting endless runners out there, a lot of them by the same developer no less. If you miss the 'tude mascot characters of the early 90s and want something that's at least decent, this may be fun for a while. Otherwise, nothing of note would be lost if you didn't play the latest in Bubsy's exploits.

The collection overall is probably best for those that are nostalgic for the PlayStation 1 and 2 era Mega Man games; otherwise, there are much better platformers around on the Switch with better variety.

6 / 10.0 - Miitopia
Jul 27, 2017

The game doesn't last too long for JRPG standards (around 30-35 hours) but this feels like a fun 15 hour game stretched out with long periods of boring grind. You eventually do get everyone back, making the last part of the game a better experience towards the end. But while Miitopia makes up for a lot of things with its charming appeal, its faults are still pretty evident.

Full Package should be retitled "Flawed Package" because there are a few issues here that are noticeable enough to hamper the experience. It's prone to substantial bugs to the point where it freezes, and there's just a dated feel to it, both in the humor and the visuals. However, while there are noticeable issues, the core sandbox gameplay is strong, and if there is one thing I can say about Saints Row: The Third, it's definitely not boring.

6.5 / 10.0 - Namco Museum
Aug 7, 2017

Other titles are probably best left as distant memories. The presentation of the collection is great, however, and the inclusion of save states, game settings, and online leaderboards make it feel like a fresh, modern day compilation. I think better games could have been included in a collection such as this, but for now, Namco Museum suffices as a decent, but flawed collection of titles.

6.5 / 10.0 - Puzzle Puppers
Feb 21, 2018

Puzzle Puppers is a good, solid game that shouldn't take too much time to get value out of. It's one of those games that won't keep you busy for days on end, but is nice to pick up and play for some pretty clever brain teasers. It does good on providing a warm, loveable aesthetic while providing quick and easy gameplay.

I liked Shinobi a lot, even though the experience was very quick. The controls felt good and tight, there were some clever enemies (especially towards the end) and the entire concept of being a ninja is a real cool idea. Shinobi is a fleeting experience, but not one that I don't regret having.

This is a perfectly average, competent, fun puzzle game that was very fun to play for a few hours and nothing more beyond that. It doesn't revolutionize the puzzle genre in any way, but it was a good experience while it lasted. And like with any Sega Ages title, the added content makes this the best version of the game yet.

There's plenty of levels to choose from and the customizable options give the experience a nice, personal touch. Moving with the controls never felt quite perfect, but doesn't render the game unplayable. Shred! 2 is simply a pretty solid, fun game that has its moments once you look past its issues.

The first Mega Man X Collection is a nice set of titles that comes with some pretty nice extras. All four games are too similar to one another to stand out, but the platforming is strong enough that it can provide a fun challenge for platformer enthusiasts.
