Joey Davidson's Reviews
Over the nearly 20 hours I spent with this game for review, I found myself enthralled with its approach to adventure, combat, emotion and narrative. Naughty Dog have once again shown that they're fantastic when it comes to telling a piece of Nate's story, and I'm pleased with what was created.
Even when I felt like giving up, I knew I was enjoying my time with Hyper Light Drifter.
Xenoblade Chronicles X is as massive and challenging as it is wonderful and addicting. This JRPG is a slam dunk for the genre.
The Banner Saga 2 improves upon the original without reinvention, and it's just as brutal as the first. Like tactical strategy with a side of despair? Dig in.
My only regret is that I didn't play Odin Sphere enough back in the day to truly appreciate the overhaul that VanillaWare has given it.
After the blight that was Unity, Ubisoft elected to scale back with Assassin's Creed Syndicate. The result is a game that's both fun and stable.
Xeodrfiter is a win for fans of classic gaming and the metroidvania genre.
Overwatch is a tight, friendly, fun, well made shooter. It's easily one of the best games I've played this year.
NHL 16 is such a better effort than it was last year. The improvement upon gameplay and better attention paid to arena feel make it a great year to play.
The new game of throw and catch alongside modes like Draft Champions makes Madden NFL 16 a great entry in the football franchise.
Ratchet & Clank is more than a reboot. It's a love letter.
Priced perfectly, Gravity Rush Remastered is a wonderful way to get excited for the sequel bound for the PlayStation 4.
Firewatch is a beautiful game with a unique narrative hook. It's been hanging around in my head for days since I finished it.
Oxenfree is a tight, well-paced thriller with characters that make you want to explore every inch of its creepy island.
To call SUPERHOT compelling would be an understatement. If you like bizarre and novel affairs with equally strange approaches to gameplay, this game should be on your radar. It's a little too brief for my tastes, though there is extra content to pad the experience out beyond the 100 minutes it takes to see the credits.
Yo-kai Watch delivers a fun, easy to play, tough to master RPG that I found just as exciting as it is relaxing. I want more of this series.
Fire Emblem Fates is another wonderful entry in the series. It offers an odd sales choice and some controversial tweaks, but it's a great tactical strategy
BOXBOY! is a charming puzzle game for the Nintendo 3DS that you absolutely should pick up.
This is a great game, and you should absolutely snag it if you like huge JRPGs and own a New Nintendo 3DS.
Majora's Mask was different, and I fell in love with it the same way a lot of Zelda fans did. It's the black sheep of the family, and it's wonderful.
