The Handsome Collection wraps up six years-worth of great Borderlands content and puts a nice bow on it.

8.4 / 10.0 - Mortal Kombat X

Great new characters, and sharper gameplay hooks make Mortal Kombat X the best game in the series.

Assassin's Creed Chronicles: China does a lot of the hard stuff well, but can't convey the rush of being an assassin.

Though it may occasionally test your patience, Magicka 2's charm and depth make it a really fun co-op experience.

Payday 2: Crimewave Edition doesn't look all that great, but it plays better than ever this time around.

Despite a great cast of characters, J-Stars Victory Vs.+ fails to leverage their charm on or off the battlefield.

Tembo stumbles at times, but its overall charm, and moments of rhythmic zen keep it fun throughout.

8.3 / 10.0 - Galak-Z
Aug 10, 2015

Though GALAK-Z's roguelike elements are fairly basic and stripped down, they do succeed in adding extra layers of challenge and replayability to an excellent space shooter. Progressively mastering its wonderful controls and unlocking new upgrades had me totally hooked, and even though its idea of mission variety is something of an illusion, its smart, playful personality kept me too entertained to care.

3.5 / 10.0 - Devil's Third

With weak combat, useless violence, and pay-to-win multiplayer, Devil's Third is not worth your time.

Missing bells and whistles aside, these three exemplary games have never looked or played better than they do here, so whether you've played them before or not, Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection should be in your library. These games have aged remarkably well, they're still an absolute blast to play, and their characters are as charming and memorable as ever.

Though it still feels a little familiar, Disgaea 5 freshens up its excellent gameplay with some fun new features.

The story in Hearts of Stone alone would make it worth getting, but it succeeds on other levels as well. The fun new enemies and bosses, along with the customization potential of Runewords make Hearts of Stone a very well-rounded package that shouldn't be skipped.

If you want the RPG with the most skills, the most stats to consider, and a world that constantly makes meaningful use of every line on your character sheet, there's nothing else quite like Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition. You can find RPGs that are prettier, more accessible, or less busy, but very few are as dedicated to the true spirit of role-playing as this one is.

7.3 / 10.0 - Hard West
Nov 18, 2015

Hard West isn't the deepest game of its kind, but it does a good job of walking the line between cold, hard tactics, and Weird West-style personality. Its mystically-inspired abilities add a fun twist to the X-Com formula, even if they do remove some of the need for tactical forsight. A richer world outside of combat would have been nice, but as is, Hard West still presents a fun, unique take on turn-based tactics.

While the gameplay foundation here is still competent, Assassin's Creed Chronicles: India just finds too many petty, annoying ways to keep me from truly enjoying it.

8 / 10.0 - Street Fighter V
Feb 15, 2016

It's hard to criticize something that seems like it was tailor-made for a wannabe competitive player like me, but I just can't ignore how little Street Fighter 5 does for the average fighting game player. It sports a wonderful, diverse cast of characters, places a clear emphasis on strong fundamental play, it gives competitive players a great online experience, and it does it all while looking gorgeous. Strictly in terms of mechanics and competitive features, Street Fighter 5 is just about peerless, but it has quite a ways to go before it stacks up against other fighting games - including its own predecessor - in terms of overall content.

There's definitely some decent meat to chew on in The Division, but it's usually surrounded by too much gristle to enjoy it for long. Both in combat and out, there are some clearly good ideas, especially the tense and dangerous Dark Zone. But they're not spread evenly or interwoven cleanly enough to form a cohesive, consistently enjoyable loop. Ultimately, The Division's overly busy, conflicted design philosophies drown its best ingredients in a bland slurry that never quite comes together into a cohesive dish.
