Himpe Kenny's Reviews

Just like so many other games writers, games have been part of my life for pretty much as long as I can remember. With that out of the way, I think the real thing to take away with me is that I've got a lot of love for games that you can extensively modify. The more, the better. Replacing textures and meshes is a nice start, but it's with games that can you mod into sheer insanity that you'll start seeing me glee about my obsession. Titles like the TES and Fallout series have always been grand platforms for this, but I won't sneer at other titles that at least try to give the option. Fan overhauls have a special place in my heart. You should check out Belzebub [sic] if you're interested, a faithful overhaul of the old Diablo 1. Beyond that, I'm not so much in it for the fame as I am in it to just express myself and get my opinion out on things I feel vocal about. I just like getting my thoughts out there, and whenever something irks me or inspires me to form a thoughtprocess on it, I'll feel very satisfied when I can put it together into an article or some such that properly conveys the message I'm trying to get across. Not always easy, putting your thoughts on paper. But it's when it works, that is the real thrill.

Divinity: Original Sin II has expanded greatly upon its predecessor, addressing many of the complaints it once had and pushing the standard much farther away. It may not only be a must-play for fans of classic RPG's, but may prove to be one of the best games to help introduce those newer to the genre.

Motion Twin maximized Dead Cells' potential early on and has polished the game ever since. This is a splendid roguelite that everyone should play.

9 / 10.0 - Bayonetta
Apr 20, 2017

Bayonetta didn't disappoint in the past and certainly hasn't with its arrival to PC. Despite its port-specific issues, it doesn't fail to bring back the experience it's renowned for seven years ago.

Sapienza skillfully combines the elements at what makes an enjoyable Hitman level. Its lower difficulty, while making it more accessible for those new to the series, might slightly bore weathered Veterans.

The Colorado Episode sets the example by which future episodes should be judged by. Combining a larger map with some extra complexity and the satisfaction of finally learning some of the ensuing plot that finally ties in 47, the episode is hopefully a promise of things to come.

8.5 / 10.0 - Half-Life: Alyx

Half-life: Alyx falls short on accounts of length and issues with the platform, but manages it strengths well enough to be a game that can push the platform further and set a new standard.

Hitman looks very promising so far even as an episodic release title, but the always-online DRM hampers it and may prove a serious black mark if it remains this unstable.

Marrakesh is a location rife with life, but disappointingly lacking in the same depth that Sapienza had. But in the end, still a worthwhile episode for the Hitman enthusiast.

Bangkok embraces its more densely packed Hotel level design with some clever depth, but ultimately doesn't stand out more than its predecessors.

Hokkaido is a beautiful setting that looks far more complex and daunting than it really is. All in all, if a typical Hitman level is what you want, Japan will provide.

Hitman Season 1 as a whole is a delight for new players who enjoy Hitmans' method of play, and veterans who can make do without a challenge. Even with its faults, the base formula that made the series great can be found here in all its glory. This doesn't mean the game does not have flaws and, depending on how you value the aspects it fails in, may eventually prove to be a downer for you.

7.5 / 10.0 - Vanquish
Jun 2, 2017

Vanquish stands apart by nailing its unique mechanic, but fails on aspects that other third person shooters have done better now. In its heyday, it was a game that impressed us with its speed and flexible aesthetic. Nowadays, the gaming scene has evolved well past it, serving only for nostalgia.

Serious Sam 4 succeeds where it needs to, and fails where it's not really all that important. An unchanging series that is a must for fans.

Captain Forever Remix is a game with potential, held back by a few poor design choices. A more forgiving progression system along with allowing more customization could make this game one of the greatest in its genre

The Following is full of potential that is hampered by a painful lack of in-depth balancing and polish. The expansion highlights its own weaknesses and fails to promote its own strengths in the transition towards a more vast sandbox.
