8.5 / 10.0 - Northgard
Apr 3, 2018

Northgard takes some of the best elements of your favourite old RTS games and breathes life into them with an economic management twist. A tighter campaign would launch this into greatness.

8.5 / 10.0 - Frostpunk
May 2, 2018

In order to survive, some tough choices need to be made to keep people warm in this frozen hell. Frostpunk is challenging, atmospheric and leaves you feeling judged a few times as you try to keep humanity alive, but not so much that you don't get up and try again.

8.5 / 10.0 - Octopath Traveler
Jul 11, 2018

Octopath Traveler is a slice of old-school JRPG with enough modern sensibilities to make anyone from an old veteran to someone just starting their journey feel comfortable, which mirrors how the game follows the story of people ranging from a young, naive merchant to an old knight who lost his reason to be. Get those walking shoes on, we have a long road ahead.

8.5 / 10.0 - Anno 1800
Apr 14, 2019

Anno might have gone backwards in time, but don't let that fool you. This is a step forward in terms of management and keeping players thinking and responding to multiple issues all at once. Settlements look vibrant and alive, with the music helping you while away the hours (until the narrator reminds you it might be time for a break)

8.5 / 10.0 - Mortal Kombat 11
Apr 22, 2019

Mortal Kombat 11's fighting, story, graphics and mechanics should have the game piercing the stratosphere, but the persistent online direction the progression systems have taken feels like something belonging to a free-to-play game.

8.3 / 10.0 - Mortal Kombat XL
Oct 25, 2016

Adding in extra characters to master (or beat up) and a few different outfits adds quite a bit to the game and if you missed the MKX mania, MKXL is a great place to hop on with all the extra characters included.

The final mission of the game evokes a sense of scale and awe that punches home that this is Mass Effect.

8 / 10.0 - Tekken 7
Jun 4, 2017

Tekken 7 is held back from being an epic fighting game by a lack of modes and clunky UI design, but the core game is beautiful, stable and an absolute joy to play and master. Prepare your thumbs for a serious workout.

Three factions might seem very light when considering the vast armies in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, but considering you need to learn every unit counter as quickly as possible, you will be glad you are only learning three factions and not more.

8 / 10.0 - Destiny 2
Oct 31, 2017

Destiny 2 on PC gets the graphics settings and modularity right, but some of the in-game systems just scream console a bit too much. A great sequel that should have been an expansion is finally in reach of those who prefer uncapped frame rates and a mouse in hand.

Call of Duty WWII has enough modes that one of them will find your fancy, but it feels like something great was missed in favour of playing the same safe song once more. Multiplayer will give this game legs if you don't mind the free-to-play intrusions.

The Shadow of the Colossus remake shows what the game would have looked like with the power of modern consoles, but it sticks with the stylistic emptiness of the original. There is something special here, even if you might not explore it with the same reverence as those with nostalgia about it.

8 / 10.0 - Solo
May 24, 2018

An introspective puzzle game that teaches you about love, travelling, the importance of self-love and challenges some of those hyperbolic statements we make about how far we would go for our loved one. Team Gotham has a right treat here.

8 / 10.0 - Prey: Mooncrash
Jun 24, 2018

Mooncrash is the AAA roguelike you never knew you wanted. It takes several of the best things about Prey and breathes new life into them. It might not be more of the story of M.Yu, but there is still enough mystery to keep the horror themes alive as you try to crack the perfect run through the moon base.
