Chris Roberto's Reviews

I’m just a guy who loves too many things. Those things typically include entertainment media (video games, movies, TV, books, comics, etc.) and sports, mostly of the New England-area variety. I’m very opinionated and like to live my life off the cuff, whatever that means, for better or worse. I’ve been thumb wrestling a controller since 1985. Yeah, I’m that old.

If you’re looking for a more casual LIMBO-stye game, this is certainly one I can recommend, because, after further evaluation, this is pretty much what Toby is going for in my estimation. A simpler, more accessible, friendlier LIMBO. It’s not a bad game. If, however, you’re like me and looking for a more core game like the former, this won’t hit those marks, though it could be a worthy play down the line with a sale, or if you just need more of these kinds of games in your library right now.

Yes, I think this is absolutely something you should buy, but that comes with a huge caveat. I thought the story and situations were great. I think the engine needs to go. Yesterday. Were it not for the technical side, this would have been rated much higher.

I like a lot about Yesterday Origins, however, there’s just as much bogging it down as I enjoyed. As it stands, I praise the really good bits highly, but the low ones, well, they creep up far too often. I do recommend the game, though I think if you’re not already a huge fan of the genre, you may want to wait to see if the bigger, more “game-breaking” issues get fixed before you jump in.

I absolutely adore this game. It plays great, it’s really fun and funny, and doesn’t outlast it’s welcome. What it does, it does very well and kept me engaged the entire time. If you’re looking for a smaller adventure in the vain of classics like pre-Ocarina of Time Zelda and The Secret of Mana, you will find what you’re looking for here. Don’t pass this one up.

At the end of the day, I can’t really say I wasn’t heavily disappointed with what Nebulous offered me. I was excited to throw down, but once I did, I found myself bored, frustrated, and sad, often at the same time. Not good. I was hoping they’d fix some of the issues with patches post launch, and while I did see at least one come through, it didn’t do anything I could notice. Such a shame, because this could have been a huge hit with me. Maybe they’ll fine tune it even more by the time VR hits, but, I’m not jumping on that bandwagon, so this has to be it for me. /sadface.jpeg

I would recommend this game to everyone, especially fans of the genre (any of them on display). There’s enough here to warrant at least one run through, and you could definitely make the argument of 100% completion to go through it again to keep everyone alive and mop up anything else you may have missed. Yeah, the game has flaws, but these are the kind I’m willing to overlook for the story, and developer Do My Best Games probably did do their best, and I appreciate it.

Virginia was a wild ride, that’s for sure. If you’re a fan of the genre you’d probably be angry with yourself for missing out on this game. If you’re just looking for an offbeat, kind of wacky mystery, you’ll find something here, too.

The bottom line on The Huntsman: Winter’s Curse is this: I liked it. Was it incredible? No. Was it entertaining? Yes. It kept my interest the whole time and even though I found a lot of the story predictable and cliched, I still didn’t feel like I was let down in any huge way. If you’re looking to add to the lore of the franchise, you should pick this up at some point. If you’re just looking for a quick-ish, non-traditional traditional RPG, you’ll likely get your money’s worth here.

A sad, yet touching story with simple mechanics and puzzles for a good price. You could do so much worse.

For the price, unless you have some sort of crazy bias against casual games, there's no reason to let this one stay out of your library. You'll be glad you have it. King Oddball is a blast and you should be playing it right now.

A- - Hue

Hue is a very enjoyable puzzle game to spend your time with. It's not overly long in the tooth and you shouldn't have too much trouble finishing it up. The story was a highlight to see through and while I wish there were more of it, I can't fault it too much, because it still hits the right notes. If you're looking for a unique puzzle game to round out your Summer, don't let this one pass you by. It's well worth your time.

This is a very worthy puzzle game, and if you’re someone who enjoys the genre, I wouldn’t recommend ignoring The Turing Test for long.

I had fun with the game, but I had just as much frustration with it, too. As it stands, if you're a diehard P&C fan or you have an in with the creators or actors, you'll probably find something to like. If you don't fall into those camps, you wouldn't be hurting yourself waiting for a price drop or sequel before diving into this one. And that saddens me to say.

Full Mojo Rampage was a bit of a shock to me. I was not expecting to enjoy this game as much as I did. It scratched – and still is – an itch I didn't really know I had. I can't explain what that itch is, but I can say that I'm not upset it's still doing it. Over the Top Games really hit a home run. This game is just plain fun and with the sprinkles of humor here and there it shows a silly side that is appreciated in these kinds of experiences. Fans of these genres will have no problem finding a good time, I have no doubt.

To me, there are some really neat ideas on paper that just did not come together as well as I would have hoped. But, again, I think this is worth a look at some point. Just go in with some tempered expectations and you may find it much better than advertised.

I was really surprised at how much I enjoyed this game. I mean, I had an idea I would, for sure, but when it was all said and done, I found it to be more enjoyable than I originally expected. It never outstayed its welcome, in any aspect, and that’s something to be commended. Now, let’s hope if there’s a trilogy in the works we don’t have to wait another decade to play it.

I have so much to say about the game, yet so little at the same time. I went into this game really wanting to love it, to find a worthy entry in this medium on the subject matter, but the bottom line is there’s not much to like here. It’s underwhelming on all accounts.

I had such high hopes for this game, they just didn't really pan out, and that sucks. Of course there's some fun to be had with #KILLALLZOMBIES, but honestly, you could probably be having just as much or more fun somewhere else with less effort.
