Marco Cocomello's Reviews

Video game blogger/writer, and all-round complete geek.

Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League is a bland looter shooter with frustrating mechanics built on the foundations of a live service game.

Instead of feeling like a sequel, Ghost Recon: Breakpoint fails to improve on anything and delivers a boring sandbox game with little to no reason to keep playing. The fact is, Ubisoft has much better games on the market that deliver not only better open worlds to explore but just better shooters including Division 2 and Wildlands. Trust me, you will have a much more enjoyable time playing the 2017 Ghost Recon game.

6 / 10.0 - Rage 2

Unfortunately, not even the great action can save Rage 2 from being a complete snoozefest.

6 / 10.0 - Anthem

Anthem is pretty to look at but its bad game design, game-breaking bugs and server issues ruin the little it has going for it.

6.5 / 10.0 - Evil West
Nov 21, 2022

Evil West slowly falls to pieces in its 13-hour campaign due to its weak story, horrid writing and shoddy visuals. The only thing left standing is the combat and even that gets repetitive and shallow after a while.

As a mindless ARPG, Chaosbane is great but everything else is just shallow and boring.

6.5 / 10.0 - JUMP FORCE

Not even one of the best rosters in gaming could save Jump Force from its boring fighting system

Princess Peach Showtime is a charming game that is clearly aimed at younger users. The hand-holding gameplay and limited difficulty might prove too boring for even the casual gamer.

Rise of the Ronin has an excellent combat system and a somewhat dark narrative but the game's dull world and mediocre quest design take away from the best mechanics on offer here. It all starts to blend together into a mindless sandbox game that offers little excitement.

Mario vs. Donkey Kong is a simple puzzle platformer that doesn’t take itself too seriously. The game is highly accessible and shines thanks to its remade visuals. You won’t find yourself scratching your head at any of the puzzles but the easy-going gameplay is charming and great to play in co-op.

7 / 10.0 - The Medium
Jan 27, 2021

The Medium is a good game that lasts just around 10 hours. After completing it I so wanted it to be more than it is. Its story and uncomfortable themes its touches on does a great job carrying the repetitive gameplay to the end. I so wanted it to be more. I wanted more challenging puzzles and gameplay elements to expand the “dual reality” mechanics. However, it never happened. I hope The Bloober Team use this as a start to something new. The game’s general premise is an interesting one and can really be expanded on. Unfortunately, it gives me Order 1886 vibes – Just playing it too safe.

7 / 10.0 - Resident Evil 3
Mar 30, 2020

Resident Evil 3 Remake manages to deliver a somewhat authentic remake of the classic game. While it lacks some iconic areas and enemies, it does keep you at the edge of your seat as you face some rather deadly threats. Once the game is over, you can purchase some items from the shop to enhance your next playthroughs like medals that grant health regen and over-powered weapons like a laser gun.. Will I go back and do another? I doubt it.

Still, the overall experience of Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order is good. It delivers a fantastic arcade beat em’ up that is a lot more fun with a friend that can actually do something. The roster of character makes it a dream Marvel game and the entire buffet of characters, even the supporting ones and villains, makes it a great adventure of discovery. I had no idea some of these people existed and that was the joy of it all.

The team-based system might take away from the skill required to master the game but the overall experience is enjoyable. For me, however, it is my least favourite out of the three released.

7.5 / 10.0 - Dead Island 2

7.5 / 10.0 - Saints Row
Aug 22, 2022

Saints Row is an incredibly fun game. The bugs often get in the way but underneath there’s an enjoyable sandbox experience here where you can truly be your own boss.

Apart from the horrendous ending, The Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope is great fun. The couch co-op movie night mode returns and gives players a reason to play the game with friends and the game's setting is chilling in all the right ways. I cannot wait to see where the studio goes with next year's House of Ashes.

Watch Dogs Legion is not a bad game I just believe it was too ambitious for its time. The recruiting system could have been something great but instead its shallow and delivered cliche characters with no real purpose. Unfortunately, this does not help the gameplay and story much. There’s a lot of fun to be had here but if you start expecting more from it, you are going to be let down.

Wolfenstein: Youngblood is a fun shooter and that is about it. The story comes across like the scrapings from the bottom of a barrel, the characters are dull and the half-decent world is brought down by tedious missions and terrible backtracking. The game could have been a great introduction to the BJ twins but now I hope I never see them again.
