9.5 / 10.0 - Desperados III
Jun 17, 2020

Desperados III is nothing short of an excellent tactical strategy game. There is so much here to play through and the way it is designed you’ll be encouraged to go back and replay missions in different ways to pass optional challenges or to just see how you can do it differently.

13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim manages to not only tell one character’s story well but thirteen of them. It takes its time to get going but once it did, I found myself wanting to just keep going to see what was going to happen next with these characters. I also think this is not only the best game visually that Vanillaware has done but one of the best-looking games period.

Overcooked! All You Can Eat has never been better than it is on the freshly released consoles. If you’ve yet to play this chaotic, co-op cooking party game then you absolutely should pick this up as you get every serving of previously released content from both games along with some new content and features. As someone who fully completed the prior two games, I must say that while I enjoyed every improvement that was made here, there might not be enough for every veteran to want to jump back into the Onion Kingdom right away.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is very much a continuation of what Insomniac Games built with the last game but when that game was a game of the year contender is saying that such a bad thing? It’s one of the best launch titles I’ve ever had the pleasure of playing and it shows off the graphical, performance, and fast loading capabilities of the PlayStation 5. The story and world activities are also a bit more focused this time around due to the shorter run time which is a good thing in my opinion. Anyone picking up a PlayStation 5 should be suiting up as Miles as it is nothing short of a heart warming fun time.

13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim on the Nintendo Switch feels like the platform it should’ve been experienced on from the get-go. The game manages to tell so many different stories and weave and intertwine them so well and being able to play a bit of them or jump into a battle real quick in portable mode just feels right. The art style makes it one of the best-looking games I’ve ever played and despite the combat not being as interesting as I would’ve liked, it didn’t hurt the experience much in my eyes. Please, if you somehow missed this game on the PlayStation 4 then give it a try now on the Nintendo Switch.

AI: The Somnium Files – nivranA Initiative is a bigger and better version of the first game that left me thinking about its story long after I rolled credits. It’s got another captivating story that is a delight to unravel, great cast of characters to interact with, some smartly designed puzzles, and a wonderful soundtrack and voice overs to listen to. My only real complains are that I wish there was an actual PS5 version so that the visuals and load times were a bit better. If you were a fan of the first game or just enjoy visual novels based around mysteries then this is a must-buy.

In conclusion, does Salt and Sanctuary borrow a lot from the From Software games? Yes it does but it doesn't try to hide that fact and Ska Studios has put their own stamp on these kind of games in my opinion. Salt and Sanctuary nails the atmosphere and the combat and I highly recommend it if you enjoy 2D RPG's or if you are a fan of any of the From Software games. The game doesn't hold your hand and will deliver that same brutally hard experience that you loved about those other games. I can already say that Salt and Sanctuary is going to be in the running for my personal pick for game of the year in 2016.

Overall I enjoyed my time with Hitman GO and I think despite it playing nothing like a traditional Hitman game fans should still check it out. All of the levels are well designed and require a lot of thought and planning as you progress. The removal of the micro transactions from the mobile version is another plus in my eyes. Those looking for a traditional Hitman game or any kind of story should look elsewhere though and if you don't have the patience to figure the levels out you may want to pass on it as well. For a puzzle or strategy fan though Hitman GO is exactly where you want to be.

Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Future Tone I have to say is absolutely worth the price of admission. The 200+ song list is just a crazy amount of content and there are tons of customization options to unlock along the way. Yes there aren’t any goals set out in the game leaving it up to the player to set them themselves. For any hardcore Miku fan I think this game is a must have and if you have been interested in the series but never jumped in yet this is probably the best entry point.

9 / 10.0 - Brut@l
Aug 6, 2016

Brut@l is one of my favorite dungeon crawling games that I’ve played in a very long time. The visual style of the game is striking and beautiful, the combat is smooth and fluid, and the game has tons of replay value both with it’s level editor and the randomly generated dungeons. If you like trophies the game has a full set including a Platinum to go after as well. The altars in the game feel a little unfair and I wish you could have more than one level created and shared at a time but those are minor nitpicks in this great game. Brut@l is for you if you’re seeking a unique challenging new dungeon crawler.

9 / 10.0 - Inversus
Aug 17, 2016

Inversus is absolutely for you if you love score chasing, addicting games or if you have local friends to play with. I’m glad it has online multiplayer even though it may be hard to find players on it. I wish the single player mode was a bit longer but other than that the game is great. For such a simple looking game it really surprised me with how fun it turned out to be.

9 / 10.0 - Yakuza 0
Jan 20, 2017

As someone who never played a Yakuza game through before and had only watched bits and pieces of previous entries Yakuza 0 delivered a hefty, meaty package that has now secured my residence in its world. I can imagine that for veteran Yakuza players this game is probably even better but I can’t recommend it enough if you have never played a Yakuza game before. The story here is the perfect jumping in point and it just has so much fun content within that it’s just hard to believe.
