LJ Lowery's Reviews

Born and raised in Santa Paula, CA but now reside in Lafayette, LA. Cut my teeth on Platformers, Fighting Games, and Beat 'Em Ups back in the days of the Genesis and SNES. I love video games and play many different kinds.

Mirror's Edge Catalyst is an exhilarating experience when you find yourself running in perfect harmony through the cityscape while knocking K-Sec around. Unfortunately all of that comes with a slightly confusing narrative.

Stunning presentation along with solid gameplay make it a well-rounded product that even casual racing fans will enjoy.

Hitman Episode 4 is a decent addition to the season but doesn't improve anything over the previous iterations.

Things have risen to a new level in Hitman (2016) Episode 5, making it my favorite so far. We are finally reaching the climax of the story, and are in for a great ending to this season's events based on what is happening here.

8.5 / 10.0 - Battlefield 1
Nov 2, 2016

Some poor mechanics keep the campaign from being superb, but fans come to the series for its competitive multiplayer. Battlefield 1 is successful in turning back the clock while other franchises are aiming for the future.

8.3 / 10.0 - Atlas Reactor
Nov 11, 2016

Atlas Reactor has successfully blended turn-based strategy with competitive multiplayer, and in addition has great style and personality. The big question is whether we will see a dedicated fan base and have players in it for the long haul.

6.3 / 10.0 - Exile's End
Nov 16, 2016

Exile's End is sort of a mixed bag. Magnetic Realms nailed the retro inspiration and metroidvania format, but a few choices in the level design keep it from being something great.

The final episode encourages players to think resourcefully by having players go in empty handed. Things don't exactly wrap up the way they should, since the stage is set for a future season. This latest addition to the Hitman serie has proved to be a solid product, but nothing more.

7.5 / 10.0 - Mekazoo
Dec 12, 2016

Mekazoo is a great callback to the platformers we all know and love, especially with its cast of playable characters that drive the gameplay. A pretty decent level of challenge is present, yet the younger audience it looks to be made for may not be able to grasp it.

The fact that players cannot share and play others' courses on the 3DS through a complete course browser is the single thing that holds this version back. With the Super Mario Challenge and the fluid mechanics intact, we still have a solid product in Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS.

The Season Pass makes Star Wars Battlefront a more complete product, The first three expansions offer a great variety in maps and game modes, but the Rogue One DLC located on Scarif just feels less than stellar. Those who didn't want to pay full price for the Season Pass should grab it at the new price of $29.99

5.8 / 10.0 - RWBY: Grimm Eclipse
Feb 9, 2017

Grimm Eclipse is full of fun, mindless combat. Though it lacks a certain level of polish, it does represent the series very strongly. Unfortunately, replayability is limited if players don't have a team of friends to fight Grimm alongside.

7.7 / 10.0 - For Honor
Feb 28, 2017

For Honor is completely unlike anything else on the market due, primarily, to its deep combat. Players can easily sink hundreds of hours into the game with so many customization options for twelve different classes. The weak campaign and one-sided Deathmatch battles are, thankfully, not a killing blow.

7 / 10.0 - NeuroVoider
Mar 29, 2017

Neurovoider brings a solid presentation with its retro style and a sweet dark synth soundtrack. Despite the extreme difficulty that comes with the roguelike format, the fun shoot'em up gameplay kept me coming back. The deep customization and RPG elements make this one a no-brainer for roguelike fans, especially if you have a group of friends to team up with.

Though many have already been digging into Shovel of Hope and Plague of Shadows, Treasure Trove is a great reason to steel thy shovel once again with all-new features and a new campaign. 5.7 / 10.0 - Mr. Shifty
Apr 17, 2017

Mr. Shifty boasts some unique combat and gameplay elements that has the player getting creative throughout its 18 stages. Unfortunately, even with a cool comic book-inspired art style, the game feels plain. At a length of only 4 hours, players will likely teleport through this one and never come back.

7 / 10.0 - Valhalla Hills

Valhalla Hills is a surprisingly good, relaxing strategy game that is great for those who aren't well seasoned in the genre. Unfortunately, it has flown under the radar—the price tag will keep many from giving this one a try.
