Damien Chambers's Reviews

Before I became a Geek Under Grace I was a student of Journalism and have always aspired to write for a gaming and geek culture publication. I am truly blessed to have found an outlet to reach not only thousands of fans, but those who may not have yet found Christ. My favorite genre of games is third-person/sandbox games. I like the freedom that they allow both in gameplay and in scale and they just seem less bland and limited than more linear titles. I still have a soft spot for RPG games but I now enjoy JRPGs far less than I did as a child because they are still basically the exact same as they always were, with a few exceptions of course. I also enjoy playing more tactical third-person multiplayer shooters or first-person shooters that try to shake things up. I absolutely hate games based on WWII or Vietnam as those settings and those types of gameplay have been done to death. Though I am not opposed to a future Assassin's Creed title being set during one of these wars. I also typically tend to stay away from MOBA's as they are notorious for abusive, and generally unsavory online communities. My favorite game of all time is Chrono Trigger, which ironically enough is a JRPG but its one that I consider untouchable in quality.
9 / 10.0 - Afterparty

With fantastic dialogue, an unforgettable performance by Dave Fennoy, and a surprisingly charming version of Hell, I think players from all walks of life and all belief systems can find something to love in Afterparty.

9 / 10.0 - Tell Me Why
Oct 30, 2020

Everyone should play Tell Me Why for what it says about how we often neglect or don't recognize the love of those around us and how that can effect everyone, not just ourselves.

With its engaging exploration, deep gameplay, well-acted characters, and a story that rivals those told in the MCU, Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy is what more Marvel games should strive to be.

From the more simplified and streamlined combat and upgrade systems to the lack of weapons and gear deterioration, Fenyx Rising allows players to simply focus on the journey and all the joy and sense of wonder that comes with it. With the year we've all had in 2020, I don't know what more gamers could ask for from a new IP in an industry consistently drowning in an ocean or reboots, remakes, and remasters.

This is hands down the best way to experience one of the most iconic RPG series in the industry, one filled with loveable characters and an epic war against an intergalactic threat.

8.9 / 10.0 - Watch Dogs 2
Dec 1, 2016

Overall, WATCH_DOGS 2 is the most fun I have had with an open-world game this year. From a cast of characters almost anyone can empathize with, to a fun, diverse array of missions and side quests, there’s so much to love. Ubisoft has essentially done the exact same thing they did with Assassin’s Creed—taking an innovative, yet flawed, new IP and improving nearly every aspect of it with player feedback. Fans of the original should definitely pick it up, and series newcomers will find a lot to love.

Plants Vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 improves upon the original in nearly every way imaginable. With expanded modes and character classes and the inclusion of a solo campaign rife with humor and collectibles, PVZ: GW2 firmly plants its roots amongst the titans of the Third-Person Shooter pantheon. For fans of POPCap and shooters in general, there is no other game that offers as much fun, whimsy, humor, and satisfaction as PVZ: GW2. Despite some balancing issues between the plants and zombies teams in multiplayer and the inclusion of micro-transactions ,this is a game for the ages that can be enjoyed by all players.

8.7 / 10.0 - Killing Floor 2
Dec 14, 2016

Killing Floor 2 is an excellent addition to the sub-genre it helped pioneer with its predecessor. As far as wave-based, cooperative multiplayer shooters go, Killing Floor 2 is the most addicting and fun one that I have played to date. With a quirky cast of mercenaries, buckets of blood and gore, and a rocking, heavy metal soundtrack, fans of DOOM, Gears of War's Horde mode, and Left 4 Dead will find a lot to love.

Episode 2 turns the dial up to 11 as we see Bruce at his most ruthless as he is forced to infiltrate and take down Gotham's most notorious group of criminals from among their own ranks.

8.5 / 10.0 - Dead Rising 4
Dec 24, 2016

Dead Rising 4 is the game the previous three Dead Rising titles should have been. With no time limit to speak of, players are given free reign to play how they want, when they want, as often as they want. This is perhaps the most liberating and accessible Dead Rising yet, and the series is all the better for it. Fans of Dead Rising should not miss this latest installment.

The Touryst is what I have always wanted from an indie game; everything just meshes together so well to make the players feel like they're on vacation, giving a feeling I've never felt from games before, and for that, I highly recommend The Touryst to players looking for a fun summer getaway without even having to leave the couch!
