This is easily one of my favorite Star Wars games to date – and just imagine what these guys could do with Rogue One or Episode VIII. We're waiting…

9 / 10.0 - Madden NFL 17
Aug 31, 2016

Madden NFL 17 may still not convert certain players who think this is just the same old game they’ve been digging into for years, but I implore you to give it a look.

9 / 10.0 - FIFA 17
Oct 17, 2016

FIFA 17 is a nice little tweaking of a package that didn’t necessarily need it, and as a result, it’s even better than before. If EA Sports can continue to maneuver this series in the direction it’s going, there’s no doubt that it will keep its tight grip as ruler of the soccer world.

9 / 10.0 - Battlefield 1
Oct 26, 2016

If you can look past the shortcomings (length, glitches) and enjoy the awesome experience that comes with Battlefield 1, you’ll find it to be a welcome addition to your library. It’s definitely found a spot in my best-of-year list.

8.8 / 10.0 - Forza Horizon 2
Oct 13, 2014

Easily one of the best racing experiences in this generation of games to date, Forza Horizon 2 improves upon the greatness of the original, while opening up a plethora of fun through Xbox Live as well. You won't be sorry hitting the road with this one.

Even if art isn't your bag (it sure isn't mine), Art Academy: Home Studio is worth checking out. The abundance of options available at your fingertips is very cool, and the ability to share couldn't be easier, save for direct posting to social networks – but we'll make do with what we have. If you're a budding artist or even a kid who just wants to play around with different paints (without messing up the house, mind you), this is one Academy worth enlisting in.

8.8 / 10.0 - Forza Motorsport 6
Nov 6, 2015

If you can accept the fact that some Drivatars are going to be weird, and some cars will take a heaping amount of time to unlock, Forza Motorsport 6 is an awesome ride that you'll return to often. In fact, it's likely to keep you busy until the next Forza ride – potentially 7 – makes its arrival.

If you're playing solo, then The Jackbox Party Pack 2 isn't likely to be your speed. However, if you're looking for a game that will suit your fellow partygoers, or want to stream a good, lively game session with your fellow deviants, then it's an essential purchase – especially when you begin to get hooked on Quiplash and Earwax. It'll certainly put a twist on your holidays.

Wolfenstein: The New Order set a gold standard with its release last year, and we're happy to report that The Old Blood continues that standard. Even without multiplayer, the game shines in nearly every aspect, and holds up the tradition of B.J. Blazkowicz's Nazi-killing provocatively well. If you loved the first game, this eight-hour adventure is just what you need.

8.5 / 10.0 - Axiom Verge
Apr 1, 2015

Axiom Verge is just the kind of retro-fitted kick in the pants that PlayStation 4 owners needed. While the story and map could've used a little ironing over, the game delivers excitement aplenty, especially with some of the bigger bosses. The diversity of weapons and tools you'll run across will keep you busy as well. Kudos to Tom Happ (with some help from Dan Adelman) for bringing us back some retro goodness for our new system. Now, sequel please. (Or at the very least, that PS Vita port we were promised…)

A worthy add-on to a franchise that we'd never thought would return, Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions is a twin-stick shooter that's well worth the recommendation. The online multiplayer may not feel like much, but single player and co-op have a lot to offer, and the gameplay and presentation gel nearly perfectly together. It's good to have a little Geometry back in our lives.

8.5 / 10.0 - Metro Redux
Aug 29, 2014

Like The Last of Us Remastered, Metro Redux argues the case for seeing games "redone" for a new generation of consoles. The visuals are unbeatable, the gameplay well balanced, the extra modes appreciatively accepted and the challenge second to none when it comes to playing in Survival and/or Ranger Modes. While some new content would've been appreciated here, what's included in the $50 package is more than enough value. It's time to head back to Russia…

8.5 / 10.0 - 1001 Spikes
Jun 9, 2014

Although some players may grow to hate and fear it, 1001 Spikes is a wonderful throwback to an era when platformers didn't need lavish graphics or huge technical feats to impress. The 8-bit presentation hits the spot, and the gameplay is challenging, but not impossible. It truly is a blast from the past, even if that blast stings a little.

Some may wonder why it's so high-priced, or why certain aspects of the game weren't as polished as the rest of it. But God of War III Remastered shows that Sony Santa Monica is more than ready for PS4 development, and that means we're in for something cool whenever Kratos decides to cover new territory. In the meantime, give his god-pummeling journey a revisit.

8.5 / 10.0 - Just Cause 3
Dec 1, 2015

In spite of some technical setbacks and repetitive tasks, Just Cause 3 delivers the kind of stress-relieving destruction to get you through the doldrums. It's easily the best looking game of the series thus far, and the awesome gameplay will have you continue to think up ways to bring down enemies. You're due a holiday vacation, and Rico's trip will certainly fulfill the need.

Even though some might be groaning at the cost of having to buy all new toys with it (relax, older ones work just fine as well), Skylanders SuperChargers still qualifies as one of the better games in the series to date. It's fun to play whether in a vehicle or running around, and it looks and sounds very nice for the most part. If your wallet is prepared, you'll have no problem reaching top speed with this one.
