The Assassin's Creed series is teetering on the brink of saturation. Credit to Black Flag for escaping that fate thanks to its interesting and innovative mechanics. Naval exploration brings in several additional hours of gameplay, which along with its competent plot contribute to make Black Flag the best Assassin's Creed game since the second chapter of the series.

The LEGO series sticks to its formula of accessible puzzles, gags and simple gameplay mechanics. While this coherence is overall positive, it's not improving where it should. Nonetheless, the overwhelming presence of the Marvel universe and the amount of unlockable content are well enough for LEGO Marvel Super Heroes to please the fans of both the comic and the game series alike.

The LEGO Movie Videogame delivers what is expected: a good movie-to-game conversion, plenty of the series' trademark humour and a top notch soundtrack. That being said, several flaws remain, such as the lack of an online multiplayer, a low difficulty level and a short lifespan, liabilities which stand in the way of making this a universally-appealing title.

9 / 10 - Mario Kart 8
May 14, 2014

Nintendo promised and delivered. Mario Kart 8 is the shiniest star in one of the shiniest series in the world of videogames. Perfectly fine-tuned gameplay, a leap in the right direction for the online component, a magnificent audio-visual pillar worthy of the Wii U and an immensely fun and absorbing experience, whether solo or multiplayer, making Mario Kart 8 an instant and timeless classic.

Scram Kitty and his Buddy on Rails is more than a throwback to the 16-bit era, it's an action-packed challenge on rails, guaranteed to keep the most demanding players closely around its simple, yet demanding concept. The jumping mechanics could use a more accessible learning curve, but anyone who plays this will have their entertainment needs properly fulfilled.

8 / 10 - Pushmo World
Jul 14, 2014

With a gameplay that is as easy to learn as it is addictive and an immense variety of puzzles, made even bigger by the puzzle editor, Pullblox World has all the conditions to become a very welcome member of any Wii U family.

9 / 10 - Bayonetta
Sep 17, 2014

Even after four years, Bayonetta's frantic action, relentless combos and spectacular antics remain a solid playable wonder which no Wii U should go without. The additional Nintendo-related bonuses only make this version ever more desirable and an even bigger reason to jump into this gem.

Drawing inspiration from Micro Machines, it is possible to find some basic foundations for a good time, but its lack of fluidity and the overall mediocre speed factor fail to throw the player into the action.

10 / 10 - Bayonetta 2
Oct 12, 2014

Quite possibly the best action game ever made, Bayonetta 2 is a pure gem of wonder, filled with epic fights, perfect gameplay, a magnificent visual and sound environment and even a multiplayer mode which fits perfectly within the format. A diabolical masterpiece that no Wii U should go without.

Its concept is simple enough to allow nearly everyone to start playing quickly, the soundtrack is quite good and it's fun enough to entertain for a while. However, the game does not have enough content to keep it on its legs and its unbalanced difficulty levels, as well as some technical problems, make it a less-than-fundamental choice in the Wii U's catalogue.

Tetrabot and Co. rightfully deserves more exposition in the Wii U's eShop catalogue. This is a fun, challenging and intuitive puzzle game, topped by a brilliant level design that is set to keep players glued to the (very well implemented) control system for a long time.

6 / 10 - Watch Dogs
Dec 11, 2014

Unfortunately, the extra time it took to get on the Wii U did not lead to improvements over the other versions and some technical issues remain unaddressed.

Pushing for more contents from outside the Mario universe is a very good idea and expectations are high for the next DLC batch.

It's baffling how Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric draws inspiration from such good sources but fails at delivering almost everything it promises. Burdened by technical problems, a lackluster plot, confusing exploration mechanics and empty settings, Rise of Lyric needed a complete overhaul before being released.

Gets several points right, especially its artwork and visual environment. There's a lot of content to unlock and its difficulty curve is balanced enough. Where it fails is on providing a more captivating gameplay, as the game forces the players to constantly look down to their GamePads, wasting time in the process.

8 / 10 - OlliOlli
Apr 18, 2015

OlliOlli clearly stands out as a fun, addictive, frantic and extensive game, free from boasting grandeur but very involving nonetheless. The cross-buy possibility is another point in its favour and hopefully something that will become more disseminate in the future. It could have landed earlier on Nintendo's eShop, but this doesn't make it any less recommendable or fun.

7 / 10 - Splatoon
May 26, 2015

A strong emphasis on its online mechanics means that most of Splatoon is to be experienced on a multiplayer basis, which would be at a higher level if all future options and contents were already available. Given the importance of cooperative online play and team work, it's also difficult to understand why there's no voice chat but despite this shortcoming, Splatoon has all conditions to become a must have classic, once all the contents are made available.

7 / 10 - Never Alone
Aug 17, 2015

Never Alone offers an average experience as a platformer with puzzles to solve but it's the game's narrative and tribute to the Inupiat people that makes it stand out as a unique experience. A perfect choice of artwork and use of cultural traits contribute to make Never Alone an insightful work which can also be enjoyed as a game.

5 / 10 - Devil's Third
Aug 25, 2015

Devil's Third could very well be an outstanding piece in the third-person shooter genre but its overwhelming flaws and lacklustre campaign mode plague it with unacceptable impediments. Nonetheless, its multiplayer mode has potential for fun and intense sessions.

The latest chapter in the Skylanders series shows that this name still has a lot to offer. The amount of content and the adding of vehicles, as well as the presence of guest stars Donkey Kong and Bowser make this yet another significant entry in the series.
