With the added value of solo play, this version of Carcassonne also allows for a fun local multiplayer experience on the same console but unfortunately, it falls short of expectations with its lack of an online component. Consequently, there's no trace of the option of asynchronous online play, as in other platforms. Overall, an experience that lacks components to go further.

Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom may come as a surprise for some but the game's overall quality design and structure quickly become obvious, especially to fans of 2D platformers and metroidvania-style games. With its good level design, high quality cartoonish art style and several mechanics from its predecessor, Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom should be on the radar of 2D platformer and metroidvania enthusiasts.

GRIP is not yet at the point its potential suggests, but being made available at this moment runs that risk: as it is, the game needs several improvements and will certainly receive them. However, while its plentiful and varied content tick the right boxes, there are issues which will require more than just updates and additional modules to solve, and the model selected to bring GRIP to the players runs risks that can end up harming this experience more than it should.

8 / 10 - Velocity 2X
Dec 26, 2018

Velocity 2X is a very fast-paced game that can be both accessible for newcomers and challenging for veterans, in an effort that features non-linear levels and very well designed mechanics that include shooter and platformer elements. A solid experience and which will get its players involved with all its components is what Velocity 2X brings to the Nintendo Switch catalogue.

Save me Mr. Tako! is a contemporary tribute to the Game Boy made with today's resources and with all the advantages that implies. That being said, and for all its qualities, its controls generate unnecessary frustration, the game's difficulty feels out of place and the levels need more inspiration but there is no doubt Save me Mr. Tako! has a character of its own for those willing to explore it.

Donkey Kong Adventure feels like a lovely addition to Mario + Rabbids, an expansion that while limited in its scope, gets everything right. It may only feature three characters but that's more than enough and when it comes to additional enemies and objectives Donkey Kong Adventure is not short in appeal, in what is certain to be a very attractive expansion for the fans of the original.

7 / 10 - Swim Out
May 26, 2018

Swim Out is simple and unambitious but that doesn't mean it cannot provide some hours of fun. While its minimal aesthetics and lack of plot show right away that this game is not trying to set a new landmark in storytelling, its contents and unusual approach to puzzle games are worthy of praise and can most definitely be of use to players looking for a simple and direct game of this kind.

Kirby Star Allies brings some of the most trademark elements of the Kirby series, including the extravagant visual look and the always growing set of abilities of the title character. On the other hand, it pushes the series' easy-going difficulty setting too far and sets the threshold too low for the players to feel any challenge and in the end, this ends up harming the experience more than helping the player.

World to the West is interesting and captivating in its puzzle-based gameplay, as well as ambitious for an indie game that aims higher than it would be expected. It is on its technical component that World of the West disappoints, as it feels like several details were not ported as they should to the Nintendo Switch and in the end they somewhat harm the overall experience.

The End is Nigh is something for those who appreciate the challenge of a steep difficulty level, one that is hard but fair and which brings the player through a refined level design that makes the player rethink how to approach the game. A real piece of playable satisfaction that is certain to gain the hearts of those who enjoy this kind of challenge.

Wheels of Aurelia presents a captivating premise and its dialogues are nothing short of interesting. Unfortunately the game's execution does not allow it to become a fully enjoyable hybrid between a visual novel and driving simulator and the dialogue's mechanics often disappoint, which along with an unpolished visual component makes this an unfulfilled promise.

The Flame in the Flood is a game that puts the players in the centre of a survival context where wits and instincts will be fundamental to get by. Thanks to its universe and crafting system, the game successfully stands out and will keep the players closely involved for a long time, even if some of the design options followed turn out to be somewhat disappointing and the game falls below its full potential.

Implosion - Never Lose Hope is a hack 'n' slash that tries to go far but ends up offering too much of the same. While its production values are good and the game's customization system is interesting, it quickly becomes too repetitive thanks to its overuse of the same enemies and an unambitious level design. As far as its plot is concerned, the quantity of elements quickly becomes too much to pay attention to and overall all this makes the experience feel tiresome and forgettable.

If a tactical turn-based RPG based on a crossover between the Mario universe and the Raving Rabbids seemed extremely unlikely, then Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle makes it all very real and with gusto. Thanks to its fun and deep combat system, a variety of abilities and characters to choose from and overall magnetic appeal, this game is set to gain a place in the heart of fans and newcomers to the genre alike.

8 / 10 - GoNNER
Aug 1, 2017

GoNNER is a delightfully peculiar game that brings a very unusual sense of aesthetics as well as very high difficulty level to the Nintendo Switch. It's hard to conceive this game pleasing every single player out there but GoNNER stands out on its own merits and it's an audiovisual experience that deserves every opportunity that it gets.

Raising the bar when it comes to the enemies' strength will force the players to plan their approaches in more strategic ways while the Trial of the Sword will push their endurance and tactical creativity to the maximum. Adding to this are Link's new outfits and something known as The Hero's Path, which will consolidate Breath of the Wild's magnificent experience and stir up new reasons to return to the game.

7 / 10 - KAMIKO
May 16, 2017

Kamiko brings a healthy dose of skilled enemy-destroying action topped off with an incentive to finish its levels as quickly as possible and break new records with every occasion. Overall, it's an accessible and fun game to play that provides a good challenge and characters that are different enough to try all of them, even if it could use some performance rankings and a bit of an improvement of its audiovisual component.

ACA Neo Geo Metal Slug 3 brings the third, and probably the most memorable, game of the Metal Slug series to the Nintendo Switch and what a competent and attractive conversion it is. Keeping its visually rich animations and settings, this version of Metal Slug 3 brings with it all sorts of surreal and surprising situations that will be cherished by those players already familiar with the series and will cause all sorts of positive surprises with those players who are gaining contact with the series for the first time.

8 / 10 - Snipperclips
Mar 21, 2017

If dynamic interaction is what makes two-player collaborative games fun and addictive, Snipperclips certainly excels at that. Through cutting, moving and rotating parts, this experience stands out as original, fun and creative, reaching its peak when played by two players, while its solo mode, as well as 3 and 4-player experience, will feel less authentic when compared to its 2-player challenges, which will bring forth many hours of fun and witty puzzles to any pair of players.
