The main mechanics are all there, this time with the additional factor of online multiplayer, which can lead to intense moments of bedlam across territories. What it offers in ambition, though, it lacks in innovation and graphical quality, with very modest visual and sound environments and a resolution that can be problematic in the first model of the Nintendo 3DS.

6 / 10 - Armello
Mar 5, 2019

Armello brings a set of strategy and RPG elements to the Nintendo Switch and while it does not feature a very compelling plot, it offers an interesting mix of gameplay mechanics, along with very attractive views to look at and a good level of challenge. Its tutorials and rules do feel excessive though and its local multiplayer could use some work but overall, Armello is a fun package that can be enjoyed by many players.

Shutshimi is a simple and very addictive fast-pace shoot'em up that presents itself in an old school-style and which will strike a chord with enthusiasts of intense scrolling shoot'em ups. So intense, in fact, that its experiences become too short-lived and its lifespan quickly falls behind when played solo, rather than on multiplayer.

6 / 10 - The Swindle
Nov 6, 2015

While the game is indeed varied and its visual environment is very well designed, it can often become very repetitive as it compels the player to repeat missions again and again.

6 / 10 - Armillo
Aug 12, 2014

It's well presented, the control system is properly tuned and its difficulty level is balanced, qualities which amount to an entertaining work. Nevertheless, there are several flaws which should not be overlooked in a final game and which require a thorough revision, such as an irregular frame rate.

6 / 10 - Elliot Quest
Jun 13, 2017

Elliot Quest does good to the promise of living up to the 8-bit era retro games that it draws inspiration from and it certainly has the appealing audiovisual component and lifespan to go along with it. Unfortunately it could have performed better on its difficulty curve and merciless gameplay mechanics, which is certain to put off all but the most patient and dedicated players.

Futuridium EP Deluxe brings back the space-themed shoot'em up, this time with a psychedelic atmosphere that will pit the player through fifty levels which will pose a significant amount of challenge - sometimes too much challenge for its own good, as the controls aren't always responsive as they should and level design could use some serious improvements.

Pier Solar and the Great Architects is a welcome effort of creating a piece of work in the contemporary age that follows a format of the mid-1990s. Its narrative is well structured and the visual interface is very appealing, but the game also suffers from several technical flaws and its combat system quickly becomes repetitive and tedious.

Daemon X Machina does very well when it comes to action, while also delivering a strong customization and strategic experience when it comes to planning the next battle and managing resources. The game's plot could certainly have fared better but the overall gaming experience of Daemon X Machina will leave fans of action games overwhelmingly satisfied, especially those who enjoy a good amount of planning and customization.

7 / 10 - Forager
Sep 6, 2019

Forager is a fun 2D open-world simulation game that puts the player on an expansionist endeavour from a small patch of land to an empire...and it does a good job at that. Forager gives a very good feeling of growth and progression to the player while it keeps its mechanics and learning process quick and simple. Pity the game seems to lose some of its performance capacity as the player's empire expands.

7 / 10 - Mana Spark
Apr 1, 2019

A game that can be as satisfying as it is difficult, Mana Spark will find a place immediately with enthusiasts of tough, demanding challenges, while finding itself a bit too much for less experienced players, but that should not be an obstacle as this is one fine specimen of an indie game that punches above its weight.

My Memory of Us brings the players into a different experience, with its sombre environments and unusual story-telling. Thanks to its accessible gameplay it never gets too difficult to advance, which might be disappointing for players looking for something more complex but the game's original premise and concept make this a title that stands out amidst other indie games in the Nintendo Switch catalogue.

Mega Man X Legacy Collection 2 closes the effort to bring together all the games of the Mega Man X series in a compilation that adds new game modes and extras that are bound to appeal to the fans. Nevertheless, the four remaining games of the X series are also overall less attractive and that has not changed with the years.

Sushi Striker: The Way of Sushido does not sound like the most conventional of titles but this is not the most conventional of games. Thanks to a combination of a completely unreal and wacky plot, a charming visual environment and a wide amount of content, Sushi Striker: The Way of Sushido amounts to a fun and addictive game, which nevertheless overburdens the player with its never ending plot and disappoints with the dearth of online players to face.

7 / 10 - Super Chariot
Jun 11, 2018

The game features an interesting mechanic that will undoubtedly keep players around their Switch for some time, especially as Super Chariot's lifespan is one of its main assets. Its multiplayer only adds more to the mix and contributes to make this a successful attempt at a good 2D platformer that does not feature any famous Nintendo characters.

Just Dance 2018 features a varied list of songs and its gameplay mechanics are still competent and fun to entertain groups at parties. The lack of new game modes, however, demonstrates that the series urgently needs innovation.

GUNBARICH is a modern take on the breakout-style of gameplay that became popular in the arcades of the 1980s. In true arcade fashion, this game is overloaded with frantic action, non-stop movement and its difficulty level is spot on. Were it not for a certain repetitiveness that is quick to materialize and GUNBARICH would be close to being one of the sharpest arcade game revivals out there.

7 / 10 - Hey! Pikmin
Jul 26, 2017

Hey! PIKMIN adapts Nintendo's series to the 3DS in a successful and fun way. While the series' veterans might find it odd at first, the game will quickly put everyone at ease with its captivating sidescrolling adventures and involving gameplay. It may not be as deep as the main series but this is a solid experience that honours the Pikmin game on a handheld format.

Blaster Master Zero brings back the spirit of the original while updating some of its characteristics to the contemporary age of gaming. An enjoyable and well done 2D action experience, which only feels a bit short on the challenge and difficulty thresholds but which is certain to find a place among players looking for a retro experience in the form of a tribute to an established classic.

Just Dance 2017 keeps the tradition of being the best game in the dancing style. Featuring a new musical selection and the same upbeat gameplay as before, Just Dance proves that it deserves the recognition of being the best party game out there. For the next chapter, a renewal featuring brand new gaming modes would be very welcome, as keeping the same formula could start to become repetitive in the long term.
