Portal Knights may not have been the first of it's kind, but it does a lot of great things. The enemies are challenging, you can craft a lot of items, and it is really fun with friends. Some may be turned off by the long loading times and the grind to level up. But at $19.99, there is a ton of value in this game and it is very entertaining. Portal Knights gives you something that is lacking in Minecraft - it gives you a clear purpose and goals as you play.
The challenging puzzles and variety of solutions are what makes Snipperclips a must own for the Switch. The art design is a plus, although the controllers can be hard to handle if you have big hands.
NBA Playgrounds holds it's own in the world of arcade basketball. It's challenging and very fun. Some gameplay could be tweaked and the addition of 4 players to it's online mode would really make NBA Playgrounds shine. As is, expect to have a blast playing as your favorite NBA players from yesterday and today.
Lego Marvel Superheroes 2 doesn't change the gameplay formula too much, but adds a massive open world to explore and tons of characters to unlock and use. The story and humor add to the fun.
A Hat in Time is one of the better Kickstarter platformers that have come out to date. The world is colorful and full of areas to explore. The enemies are challenging, with bosses that are no pushovers. The replay value of the game is very high due to the number of areas that can be reached once you find and make appropriate hats. Overall, this is a platformer that you don't want to miss!
Your path in Sea of Thieves is yours to make. The game is not for everyone, but you can't deny the potential for fun and adventure in Sea of Thieves. Despite some setbacks with trolling players and endgame content, I find myself wanting to play more and more of Sea of Thieves.
Mugsters is a simple, yet well-designed puzzler. The physics-based environments create some chaotic, but hilarious moments as you work to save humankind. Even though it is simple, the mechanics and execution are well done and Mugsters controls very well. It's the type of game that is hard to put down.
World War Z takes the fun gameplay of the Left 4 Dead series and adds nice touches that create a fun and frantic zombie co-op experience. Some technical issues aside, World War Z is a blast with friends and scratches that Left 4 Dead itch that you might have.
Yooka Laylee and the Impossible Lair is one of those rare games where the development team makes a substantial change that completely works in its favor. The platforming levels are a blast to play, and each level is colorful and unique. The Lair itself is very challenging, which encourages you to play through all the levels and their variations. If you are a fan of 2.5D platformers, then you really need to add this to your collection.
Modern Warfare is a reimagining of arguably the franchise's best games. And I hope that it is the first step in a new direction for the series in terms of quality. The graphics and sound are the best in the entire series. The single-player campaign is exhilarating, exhausting, and moving in some instances. The multiplayer and Spec Ops are a little weak at launch, but will no doubt be bolstered with more fan feedback and continued support by the development team. Modern Warfare is a game for a modern generation, and I can't wait to see where it goes in the future.
A great multiplayer game in a time where we need it the most. Simple concept made great with easy to learn controls, nice art design, and chaotic moving fun.
I have been really enjoying Zombie Army 4, and I highly recommend you give it a shot. If you have played any of the previous games, or if you are looking for a short, multiplayer shooter, then you are in for a treat. It is a blast to play with friends, and if you are a fan of zombie games, you owe it to yourself to play it.
With any Call of Duty, there are pros and cons. Black Ops Cold War has a lot of subtle changes that I really enjoyed in Campaign, Multiplayer, and Zombies. However, it might now be enough to satisfy rabid fans of the franchise. If you are disappointed, just remember that future updates will hopefully change things that you don't agree with. As for me, I found a lot to like in Black Ops Cold War, even though these changes may not be groundbreaking. And even if you don't enjoy the changes, I must say that playing on next-gen consoles is an incredible experience. Fast frame rates, load times, and graphics are massive pluses for this franchise. I can't wait to see what they can pull off with the next iteration on next-gen consoles.
I loved the graphical changes as I went through each zone. The gameplay may be a little simple for some and the puzzles may not be challenging for every gamer. It's a great indie game for any gamer who enjoys platforming, puzzles, and a walk through game development history.
1, 2 Switch is a ridiculously fun party game in short spurts. The price point really hurts, but the idea of a face to face party game is something that I would like to see in future party games.
Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap is everything an HD remake should be. The game itself was given an amazing face lift and the animation looks incredible. The platforming gameplay is the same as the original game, to a fault. The basic platforming and enemies can be a little boring at times.
Escapists 2 is a worthy successor to the first game. The simulation is very addicting, with challenging maps, great customization options, and multiplayer modes that are a blast. Remember that patience is a must in Escapists 2, and it will be frustrating if a simple mistake wipes out your hard work.
State of Decay 2 is impressive in its scope and amount of content. You will spend hours upon hours building your communities. The graphics could use some more polish and the game is very difficult when playing by yourself. But despite these setbacks, State of Decay 2 is fantastic survival simulator that recognizes the amount of work that needs to go into surviving in a post-apocalyptic world.
Adventure Pals has a wacky sense of humor that you will love right from the beginning. The platforming is well done, but a little on the easy side. Despite the ease, Adventure Pals is a wonderful platformer with many collectibles to find and crazy characters to meet and help.
Raging Justice is a blast from the past. It's very entertaining and fun to play with friends. It only takes about an hour or two to beat, depending on the difficulty level. The number of enemies to conquer in single player can be overwhelming and frustrating. But if you are a fan of the genre, then I definitely think you should try it out.
