Supergiant Games just gave us another gem: despite some verbose sections and the amount of text to read (that can be overwhelming at times), Pyre has a sophisticated art direction, a compelling and charming story, and an original and unique take on the RPG genre.

Okami HD is the long overdue remaster of a true masterpiece: it has aged a bit, but it's fascinating and charming like the first day, ten years now. The wonderful artistic vision is truly enhanced by the support to the new resolutions, keeping the experience intact. It's hard to improve a game which is already the best in its own genre, but SIE San Diego Studio achieved a good result with a few, but meaningful, changes. MLB The Show 18 offers an even more solid and consistent experience than its predecessor, although the devs cut off a couple of game modes. The new most important core element is the brand new progression system in the Road to the Show career, which offers the chance to live the tough dream of a mid- to late-round draft pick prospect.

DiRT Rally 2.0 is a solid improvement for the rally sim made in Codemasters. The physics and the driving model are top notch, even driving with a joypad, while the lack of a couple of locations and the general aging of the Ego Engine limit the game scope.

FIFA 20 looks like another step up for the FIFA franchise, even if probably not so wide and brave as we could expect. Anyway, gameplaywise the new physics, the slower pace and a solid 1 on 1 defense open a whole new world in terms of approach and styles of play. The very new game mode Volta brings the street soccer back to videogames and it's simply a love letter to the spirit of football lived as fun.

FIFA 21 delivers solid and fun gameplay, introducing a lot of small new features in the structure build in the last two years. Even if FUT is always bigger and louder, the best things this year come from Career mode and plain multiplayer mode, where everything flows with a slower and human tempo.

Football Manager 2021 is the best episode ever of the series on the pitch, where the experience is nearly perfect in terms of simulation, while off the pitch the game has really a clumsy and obnoxious user interface. Overall, the experience is great and the football world feels tense, realistic and dynamic as never before, but there's still more room to improve the game in terms of narration, flow and emotional storytelling.

MotoGP 21 is a consistent and solid racing experience, which gives the joy to ride just become better and better on the track. For the first time in the series, it's even a little bit more gentle with rookies and newcomers, thanks to a tutorial and a better help system. It lacks only of narrative dimension which could help to express all the emotions of motorsport.

Last Day of June is an intimate and moving adventure, yet elegant and sophisticated. Albeit a linear structure and some minor gameplay flaws, it's a game that tells an extremely human story, with some unexpected surprises, and where the gameplay drives the narrative. Football Manager 2018 is a bigger, deeper and more complex episode of the saga. The best football universe simulation features a lot of new mechanics which give to the managers the chance to feel, manage and understand even better their teams. The evolution is amazing, but lacks of a real update to the UI, too old and chaotic, a little bit of polishing, with some dynamics which need to be fixed with the upcoming updates, and some issues in terms of hardware optimisation.

It's not a proper game about Pyeongchang Winter Games but rather a Steep-style take on them, with a fresh and intense game campaign, an amazing new mountain to explore and a lot of challenges to take. Fall Guys is a crazy and cozy take of the battle royale concept. Mediatonic did a brillaint job to create a social platform with 11 hectic event, with the classic "easy to learn, hard to master" party gameplay. FIFA 23 is the perfect goodbye party for the EA Sports franchise. HyperMotion 2.0 is brilliant in portraying intensity, dynamism and hi-tense rhythm football. The gameplay is hectic and engaging, even though quite unbalanced in terms of offensive/defensive action and the goalkeepers AI is quite questionable. If you like offensive football and epic individual duels, FIFA 23 will provide hours of fun both in single and multiplayer, while the "new" Ultimate Teams works great.

NBA 2K22 shines on the court, while struggles in the city. Visual Concepts did a great job getting back on the right steps its basket simulation, and the new shooting system feels good, the new defensive AI is tough and, overall, everything is in the right spot. The new MMORPG-like MyCareer is an ambitious and enormous attempt to maximize the retention of the players. Well, it tries hard, but it doesn't succeeds.

Riders Republic is a high-octane ode to joy. An almost perfect extreme sports theme-park open world where having fun is the only thing that matters. Despite a confusing progression and some little hiccups camera and controlwise, Ubisoft Annecy brought in the best part of Steep, The Crew 2 and a bit of punk attitude to create a versatile and compelling experience, even if sometimes a bit too much overwhelming.
