Josef Jakubiak's Reviews

I’ve been playing games from a very young age with Halo: CE and Zelda being the first few. I currently rock a High end PC, Switch, PS4 and Xbox One. Proud owner of a Zelda tattoo. Can be found re-watching the exact same movies over and over and never finishing any of the games I start playing.

or the amount of content, and the quality of said content you really are getting your money’s worth here. Any fan of Spider-Man should purchase this as soon as possible. This is well on the way for becoming my game of the year come December… But for now you have won this spider-fan’s seal of approval. Spectacular visuals, amazing story, superior combat. All these come together to make, in my opinion, the ultimate Spider-Man game.

9.5 / 10.0 - Super Mario Odyssey
Nov 8, 2017

Not only do I recommend Odyssey as a game, but I strongly advise anyone craving those Sunshine adventures from the GameCube pick this up immediately. With games like Breath of the Wild, Stardew Valley and Mario Kart also out on the Switch there’s a lot of good reasons to pick up this still relatively new console. If you already own a Switch and you’re not sure about this game then I implore you give it a go. There’s something for everyone weather you’ve never played a Mario game before or you’re a master N64 speed runner. However if you have ever played a Mario game then you will appreciate this present that Nintendo has spent painful hours crafting for your enjoyment

Smash Ultimate really is the Ultimate Super Smash Bros. game. The content is packed and nearly all of it would satisfy my soul for a life time. It is already becoming one of my favourite games on the Switch. For certain it’s already the game I’ve put the most hours in thanks to it’s addicting multiplayer and satisfying mechanics. After nearly a full year of hype from the moment it was announced last March I can fully say that I am satisfied with the game that we received. It’s incredibly hard for me to fault outside of some lacklustre adventure mode. There’s just so much more for me to do in the game that I am able to overlook one small experience and enjoy everything else that Sakurai has packed into this experience. A gigantic Roster partnered with smooth and just downright fun gameplay. Not to mention the amount of content packed into it. Smash Ultimate gets my seal of approval.

Breath of the Wild is an excellent adventure with an open world that is fun to explore and uncover, because of this I have still played on hours after the final boss, with areas still to explore. If you have a WiiU there is no harm in buying it, if you don't have either console the Switch is the more recommended place to start with an excellent handheld and TV option. As a Zelda game it makes some interesting changes to the existing formula that are completely welcome. Whether you're an explorer, fighter or speedrunner, Breath of the Wild brings an experience that lingers long in your memory, it deserves praise and more than one playthrough. While it does meet the highest expectations, there are still small annoyances that can tick off certain players.

Darkest Dungeon delivers an intense and challenging experience while keeping the player invested 100% of the time, with some impressive visuals, fun combat and hours of entertainment. Just make sure to pray to RNGesus!

Nintendo have succeeded again at creating an addicting gameplay experience that is just a blast to do with friends. I’ve invited my brother around to just chill and play this game with and it always puts a smile on our faces. Thanks to this being on the Switch I’ve had a lot of opportunity to use the handheld mode (yes one of those places being the toilet). It’s just so exciting to play a HD game like Mario Kart on the train without any sacrifices made towards performance or visuals. Overall this game brings forward the existing formula onto a platform that’s begging for it. I’ve put a ton of use into it and there’s never really anything negative to say towards the actual game itself. It’s always just been the online that Nintendo struggles to improve.

With all that said, Life Is Strange 2 really is an exciting and emotional adventure that leaves me wanting more. While there’s not too much growth gameplay wise from the last one, DONTNOD have added more ways to have fun and bond with Sean and Daniel. I feel like I’ve bonded with these characters already, and I can expect to see them growing together, and breaking my heart even more over the next few episodes. A truly well done opener episode.

I’ve presented the best way to view battlefront, as a complete game. If you ignore for a moment any price issues or early investments and simply look at the game now you have a great shooter experience in the Star Wars universe. With a sequel on the way this year coming packaged with a single player story and multiple eras, it’s worth picking up the original/season pass for cheap to get yourself excited and back into Star Wars spirit.

8.5 / 10.0 - Attack on Titan 2

At the end of the day you have a thrill ride of fun set in the world of Attack of Titan. As a fan of the show I would definitely pick this game up for the platform of your choice. While the Switch will be slightly less impressive visually, the ability to take it where you want can be a game changer for some. You’ve got some excellent gameplay with plenty of content and that’s exactly what a game about Attack on Titan should be. If you can look past the repetitive nature and minor hiccups then you’ll get a good 25+ hours at minimum.

8 / 10.0 - Project CARS
Feb 17, 2017

Projects Cars brings to the table everything you expect when driving a car, the controls require a bit of learning first but once you get comfortable with your own style you can bring make some serious time on the track. The Career mode will likely be the mode that will suck up your time as you aim to climb the ranks of your chosen motorsport, the game effectively challenges the player to become a better driver without forcing them to do it at a crazy pace, this along with the visuals add together for some of the best virtual driving I’ve had in a long time.

There's some really fun gameplay, with great bosses. However the open world feels empty and I wish there was lots more content for returning players after a first time completion.

At the end of the day you have an exciting cyberpunk experience with a beautiful atmosphere and soundtrack. You likely wont be picking this up for the best narrative of the year, and find most of the enjoyment in taking down fools while improving your skills. Overall I had a lot of fun playing this game, getting around 5 hours out of it. While I do wish there was more to do and ways to make a second round more appealing, I did enjoy going through it.

You can see a lot of work has gone into Blossom Tales and the characters and pixels will take you back in time for a fun time. It teaches that you shouldn't judge every SNES looking game as a Zelda rip off and appreciate everything for what it likes to do differently. A fun adventure that I thoroughly enjoyed to listen and play through.
