7.2 / 10.0 - Pure Farming 2018
Mar 21, 2018

Pure Farming 2018 is still a pretty sour plant (pun intended): technically modest, with a narrow roster of farming vehicles, and limited possibilities for the players. Despite the name, it's not a "pure" simulator, and the arcade approach may turn away the fans of the genre. The seeds have been planted; we'll wait and see if they will bear fruit.

7.2 / 10.0 - Crackdown 3
Feb 14, 2019

Crackdown 3 comes directly from the past, from an era in which the open-world action games focused mainly on the amount of things to do, to the detriment of the overall quality and variety of situations. This does not mean that the formula proposed by Sumo Digital doesn't work, far from it, but it's linked to a now anachronistic concept of a genre that has evolved in the last couple of years into something that goes beyond the simple repetition of the same tasks throughout the duration of the campaign.

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics is a nice strategic RPG, however its tie-in nature is in fact a limit to its potential. Who knows what it could have been if BonusXP would have poured a bit more of courage in its develpment...

The Flame in the Flood is a strange survival roguelite. Despite an interesting setting and a charming OST, the game lacks in offering a balanced gameplay, mostly becouse of the high incidence of random events.

7.5 / 10.0 - Shattered Heaven
Nov 6, 2023

Shattered Heaven takes inspiration from Darkest Dungeon and Slay the Spire, and does so without adding any particular innovations to the game formula. There is nothing wrong with this, especially if the end result is good. Besides, it manages to bring a mature narrative, including multifaceted characters and a well-written story. There are some flaws here and there, but all in all Leonardo Production's video game is well made.

The Master of Magic remake is an ambitious project which, however, has never decided whether to be just a graphic restoration or a complete makeover of the original. It's still a decent 4X video game, but nothing more. Ultimately, if I had to choose between the remake and the original one, I would opt for the latter without hesitation.

Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX is mainly aimed at the fans of the franchise. Don't expect a remaster, though: the only difference with the originals is the new monster generating system, now based on an in-game database.

7.5 / 10.0 - Empire of Sin
Nov 30, 2020

Empire of Sin is a competent hybrid that borrows mechanics from tycoon games, turn-based tactics and RPGs. Unfortunately, the game is plagued by numerous bugs and glitches that risk compromising the experience.

Peril on Gorgon further expands the background of The Outer Worlds and the colony of Alcyon, but focuses too much on the action parts of the game rather than on its narrative and role-playing sides.

Strategic Mind: The Pacific is an interesting turn-based tactical game but it certainly isn't for everyone, however that's not necessarily a bad thing. It's a bit rough on the edges but in the end it does its job pretty well.

7.5 / 10.0 - Planet Alpha
Sep 2, 2018

Planeth Alpha is a sci-fi adventure really excellent in the artistic design, like a true moving fresco, but not as effective in everything related to gameplay, with obvious puzzles and imperfect stealth mechanics.

7.5 / 10.0 - BattleTech
Apr 24, 2018

BATTLETECH is a good and a bad game at the same time. A great storyline and a deep tactical approach in the main missions don't succeed in concealing poor side quests and too many techincal issues. You should wait for a couple of patches at least, before considering to spend your money here.

7.5 / 10.0 - Frozen Synapse 2

The second chapter of Frozen Synapse is deeper and more complex, but too many technical problems keep it away from real greatness.

7.5 / 10.0 - Shu
Jan 22, 2018

Shu is not exactly a memorable experience, mostly because of its non-existent difficulty and derivative gameplay. Nonetheless, the game from Coatsink is perfect for touch and go moments, has a peculiar style and art, and a peaceful soundtrack.

7.6 / 10.0 - Nantucket
Jan 30, 2018

Nantucket tries to develop a sequel for Moby Dick by Melvill, but the ambition of Picaresque Studio clashes against a weird and not-so-fitting game formula. A little bit too repetitive, with an unbalanced difficulty curve, Nantucket is still a decent game, with some gameplay elements borrowed from board games and RPGs.

Fearful Symmetry & The Cursed Prince is a very good puzzle game, thanks to the original gameplay dynamics and an excellent level design that takes advantage of their possibilities. We'd have loved some more puzzles that could have highlighted the different characters, but in this case the prize is definitely right, for a well-done brain teaser (9.99 $ for both PC and Xbox versions).

Dawn of Ragnarok is a bit shallow and nothing more of a "more of the same". Still a decent content for the Assassin's Creed Valhalla fans, but it could have been much more.

7.7 / 10.0 - Humankind

Sadly, Humankind isn't Amplitude Studios' magnum opus. Its interesting concept of civilization mix-matching is constantly let down by an uncompetitive AI and all sort of balancing issues.

A-Train: All Aboard! Tourism might seem a lighthearted game suitable for beginners, instead the last of Artdink's productions turns out to be the exact opposite. It's a complex and articulated managerial title, full of micro-management elements and with a particularly steep (perhaps too much) learning curve. That's because, despite the presence of two exhaustive tutorials, there's always the risk of being disoriented by an unnecessarily confusing interface.
