Adam Siddiqui's Reviews
Life is Strange: Before the Storm Episode 1: Awake starts off this season with a bang. It removes one of the most iconic features of the first season and yet still delivers an impactful story thanks to great writing and outstanding performances.
The frustration and disappointment that engulfed me when I first played Destiny quickly dissolved after playing through Destiny 2. The missions are varied and the desire to constantly upgrade my Guardians with the best loot kept me coming back.
Metroid: Samus Returns gives fans what they've always asked for a Metroid game and everyone else gets a phenomenal 2D action-adventure game with one of the most iconic heroes in video game history.
Dishonored: Death of the Outsider is a solid finale for fans of the series. Those who've played the franchise since the beginning will find the conclusion both shocking and worthy, even though it felt quick.
From start to finish Hob kept me surprised. Each new area was full of new challenges to undertake and protected treasures. Combat was my least favorite and thankfully, for most of the game, it's arbitrary.
Cuphead lives up to its initial promises, a beautifully cartoonish game with punishing side-scrolling action. The perfect soundtrack complements the beautiful graphics, capturing the era of old cartoons.
Batman: The Enemy Within Episode 2: The Pact places Bruce in many uneasy situations. During the course of the episode, you'll constantly be tested by everyone including yourself. Depending on the choices this episode can end a number of ways with different characters seeing you in various lights.
Middle-earth: Shadow of War focuses on what made the first game a hit, improved on those strengths, and attempted to fix problems players had with the first game. The refined Nemesis system kept me on my toes since at any time the story could shift based on my actions or a new powerful Uruks could appear and completely decimate me.
Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series, Episode 4: Who Needs You doesn't focus on the current apocalyptic situation that the Guardians are in, instead, it's all about how the Guardians deal with hitting rock bottom. Broken, tired, and overwhelm Peter attempts to keep the group together as space worms try to make them into lunch.
Echo requires constant thought and planning, attempting to rush your way through will lead to a quick death. Combating the Echoes after they've mastered your previous tactics offers uniquely gratifying ways to better yourself.
The Evil Within 2 doesn't attempt to do much in originality when it comes to the survival-horror genre but successfully creates a gripping tale of horror and suspense. It takes a while to get started the story eventually evolves into a captivating tale of dedication and desires.
Life is Strange Before the Storm Episode 2: Brave New World is a fantastic addition to this 3 part series. It still suffers from the same issues from the first episode but these are minor complaints.
Super Mario Odyssey is full of innovative gameplay and original levels that it easily can eat up your time. The story simply serves as a goal for the player but the in-game introduction of new platforming action that constantly created unexpected mechanics filled me with joy and excitement.
In one scene you can be in an ultra-serious situation dealing with someone on the brink of suicide and in another a laugh-out-loud comedy, and that’s what Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus is about. It brings together these outstandingly written and acted characters to life within a bleak world where death can happen at any time.
Assassin’s Creed Origins is an extraordinary realization of Egypt that genuinely reconstructs this ancient civilization. Missions and combat are much more varied and challenging than previous games with Bayek taking center stage as one of the best protagonists in the franchise.
Raiders of the Broken Planet has a lot of promise. The game currently only features 6 missions over 2 campaigns but has 3 more operations on the way. The incredible world and lore of this science-fiction universe were captivating but the issue was all the grinding.
Call of Duty: WWII is a refreshing experience from the modern and futuristic settings of recently past Call of Duty games. It tells a more personal tale of how soldiers during World War 2 attempted to come to grips with the horrors they endured and found the fortitude to walk each step.
Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series Episode 5 Don't Stop Believin is a fantastic ending to this season. The animations were distracting but the removal of tiresome puzzles for more narrative and action made episode 5 the best one of the entire season.
Telltale's Guardians of the Galaxy is another excellent addition to Telltale's growing library of games. The fantastic story and decisions help mold the story into a personal dialogue of the player's choosing, encouraging multiple playthroughs with unique outcomes.
A heavy focus is put on a weak custom character that for some reason plays a larger role than Classic Sonic. Sonic Forces takes too many steps backward from 2011's formula for an experience that's average at best.
