70 / 100 - I Am Fish
Sep 17, 2021

I Am Fish has a lot of positive qualities. The difficult physics-based platforming offers a variety of challenges that test the player's precision and endurance. The narrative is joyful and simple as a bunch of fish friends attempt to find a way to the ocean and reunite. The problems rise up with the technical polish of the title with low frame rate cutscenes and an inconsistent momentum system. Despite these shortcomings, I Am Fish is a delightful platformer full of charm and challenge.

Watch Dogs has had an interesting history. The first game was full of problematic stories involving a downgraded PC version and a game full of bland repetitive missions with poor rewards. The second game was a huge step forward in the right direction by offering a new diverse cast of characters, cleverly crafted missions, and a more engaging story as technology is used to control the populist in realistic ways such as tracking their health and daily lives. So where does that leave Watch Dogs Legion, right in the middle? Well, yea. The game's concept of recruiting London citizens off the street to fight against the tyrants who run the city sounds amazing until you get halfway and realize that the random collection of NPCs that make your team are just that, random NPCs. Instead, Watch Dogs Legion is more of what the first game should've been and a step back from Watch Dogs 2.

Life is Strange 2 has reached its end. With Sean and Daniel's adventure coming to a finish with multiple endings but not without having some profounds choices littered throughout. The episode is light in areas to explore and requires a lot of interaction with random items to get an understanding of what happened between episodes 4 and 5. But it's during the finale and how Sean raised Daniel that things come together and either end with a somber note or a massive explosion.

70 / 100 - Sea of Solitude
Jul 5, 2019

Sea of Solitude starts strong, plunging the player into a vast ocean that house monsters and allies alike. With dark themes of loneliness that push the protagonist to confront unbearable truths. Unfortunately, while the story starts off strong Sea of Solitude cannot ride that wave, with much of its momentum quickly lost.

DLC for the Assassin's Creed franchise has always been short mediocre adventures, with the occasional striking moment. Assassin's Creed Odyssey The Fate of Atlantis Episode 1 Fields of Elysium, that's a mouthful, is a huge step forward for DLC in this franchise. Providing an extensive adventure with branching narrative paths and a collection of great characters. The missions don't diverge from the traditional Assassin's Creed formula but the story is more than worth the asking price for this introduction. Fields of Elysium is a giant step forward for Assassin's Creed DLC and one of the best expansions in the franchise.

The Walking Dead: The Final Season - Episode 4 Take Us Back has a lot of highs and lows. With organic situations caused by the player's decisions mixed with questionable situations. It won't please everyone but Take Us Back but provides a sufficient conclusion to Clementine's long journey.

ToeJam and Earl is a cult classic among older gamers, with much of its appeal coming from the graphical style and unique characters. ToeJam and Earl: Back in the Groove! captures much of the original's atmosphere and gameplay. It won't appeal to everyone but those with fond memories of the duo will get a lot of enjoyment with ToeJam and Earl: Back in the Groove!

Assassin's Creed Odyssey plunges players further back into history, back to when the Assassin Order wasn't even conceived. The world of Greece is just as beautiful and teeming with more activities than any other Assassin's Creed game. But despite the large impressive world Assassin's Creed Odyssey's gameplay rarely impresses and relies on mechanics already used in previous games with little variation. Despite the new branching narrative Assassin's Creed Odyssey is more of what fans of the series have come to expect.

Call of Duty is one of the notorious franchises in video games and carries a reputation for one of the most acclaimed and addicting multiplayer series. When Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 was announced many were annoyed that the sub-series within the franchise known for telling great stories would be abandoning single-player for a multiplayer-only experience. It delivers a by the numbers Call of Duty experience that will satisfy those who love the multiplayer experience but won't win those who've left the franchise behind or had no interest in the first place.

Raiders of the Broken Planet has a lot of promise. The game currently only features 6 missions over 2 campaigns but has 3 more operations on the way. The incredible world and lore of this science-fiction universe were captivating but the issue was all the grinding.

What Ails You does a great job of setting up the finale for The Enemy Within. Most of the episode has you following a line from start to finish with very little variation in the gameplay.

De Blob 2 is a refreshing game from the tedium I experience from the first game. You'll still end up doing the same thing for most of the game but the focus on platforming instead of solely coloring everything provides a much more streamlined experience.

The Gunk is a decent adventure title that combines many elements platformer fans love from the genre. The decent combination of mystery, exploration, and collecting offers enough intrigue that you'll want to see how everything ends.

Man of Medan was a mostly mediocre start to The Dark Pictures Anthology as it focused less on the supernatural and more on loosely connected events with some chemistry. It had a lot of flaws and just didn't have the same impact as Until Dawn but Little Hope is a step in the right direction. Offering a complex and layered story with scares and hidden details required to get the full picture of this tragic story.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered brings back the 2009 campaign with updated visuals for modern audiences. Despite not including the multiplayer option similar to the rerelease of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare the campaign is strong enough to stand on its own. With incredible firefights, visuals, and an amazing soundtrack to bring it all together. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 had one of the best military campaigns last generation and the single-player still holds up today.

75 / 100 - Death Stranding
Nov 13, 2019

Even after completing Death Stranding twice I've been conflicted about how I feel about this title. On one hand, the narrative, presentation, lore, and soundtrack are outstanding. On the other hand, the game's core gameplay teetered between tiresome and exceptional. Death Stranding's world-building featured an incredible landscape teeming with interesting lore but surrounding that is a delivery simulator.
