The game certainly isn’t the most complicated or mechanically deep roguelite action-platformer on the market. It doesn’t have the giant build variety and in-depth combat mechanics of something like Dead Cells. That being said, Skul: The Hero Slayer still a great addition to the genre in its own ways.

8 / 10.0 - CARRION
Jul 23, 2020

If you would like to spend five hours ripping and tearing your way through scientists and security guards as a bloodthirsty tentacle monster though, then you’ll probably have a lot of fun with Carrion.

8 / 10.0 - Lightmatter

If you want four hours of fun puzzles based around manipulating light and dispersing killer shadows, then you really can’t go wrong with Lightmatter.

Even though the DLC doesn’t expand upon the main story of Bloody Chronicles, its worth playing through to hold you over until the next act or canonical side story.

Lumote is a wonderful and relaxing puzzle-platformer. It has a fantastic, vibrant aesthetic that helps create an interesting and creative world to explore.

Despite all its faults, I still really enjoy Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. It simply does such a good job translating the core events of Dragon Ball Z into a game that it’s impossible not to recommend it to nostalgic fans.

8 / 10.0 - Gato Roboto
May 25, 2019

Gato Roboto features some charming animations and character interaction between Gary and his beloved kitty cat. The only truly disappointing thing I found about the game is that its over way too soon.

While there’s no confirmed release dates for the next acts and side story DLCs, I look forward to seeing what comes next for both the detectives of Igrasil, and the developers at Igrasil Studio.

If you are in the market for a solid sci-fi 4X game that isn’t overly complicated and a bit more focused on combat, then you’ll find a lot to like in Age of Wonders: Planetfall. It’ll likely be my go-to game for several more months to come, even with all its flaws.

8 / 10.0 - Tannenberg
Apr 3, 2019

Glitches, inept AI, and low player counts aside, I do still recommend giving Tannenberg a shot, especially if you are looking for a game that really nails the look, feel, and atmosphere of WWI.

If you don’t like extensive real-time micromanagement, then admittedly Armada 2 probably isn’t for you. If you care to devote the time to learning its mechanics, however, then you’ll find a pretty deep and strategically rewarding game of space combat in the grim darkness of the 41st millennium.

As it stands, Mechanicus is a really good 40k video game that comes just short of being a truly great one. With a bit more tweaking, we could be looking at a 40k title that would be up there with the original Dawn of War in terms of how fondly it is revered by fans of the IP.

8.5 / 10.0 - Shadow Warrior 3

It’s just a shame that the experience is over so quickly. Perhaps a premature ending is a fitting flaw for a game crammed so full of dick jokes, but at the end of the day you are still left wanting more.

8.5 / 10.0 - Expeditions: Rome
Jan 18, 2022

If you’ve never experienced an Expeditions game before, then Expeditions: Rome is a good starting point. It’s by far the most polished and refined game in the series, and features a variety of unique little ideas and mechanics you don’t really see in other RPGs. The first few months of the year are usually pretty slow in terms of releases, so now is the perfect time to dive into a lengthy RPG like Expeditions: Rome.

If you are in the mood for a hefty visual novel full of compelling characters and don’t mind that the combat mechanics aren’t particularly deep, then you’ll definitely want to give the Utawarerumono franchise a shot.

There is no denying that Maxi Boost ON is a very fun, mechanically deep 3D arena fighting game, but it is overflowing with so much Gundam fan service that it might be pretty overwhelming to gamers that aren’t already into Gundam, or are merely casual viewers of the franchise.

8.5 / 10.0 - Gears Tactics
May 13, 2020

Gears Tactics kept me entertained for the full 30 or so hours it took me to finish the campaign. Hopefully, the developers take the issues I and many others have brought up to heart, and deliver an excellent sequel a few years down the road.

While I would have preferred to see the franchise to return as a nice and proper sim like the old days, MechWarrior 5 still scratches my itch to stomp around the battlefields of the future in a giant robotic war machine.

8.5 / 10.0 - Valfaris
Oct 12, 2019

It nails the aesthetic and gameplay of Genesis era side scrollers, and looks like something that could have been released during that era and go down in history as a fondly remembered classic. Even if you’re sick of retro-inspired action-platformers, you should still consider giving Valfaris a shot.

If you aren’t already a fan of the series, then Trine 4 probably won’t change your mind. If you love the series already like I do, then you’ll find a worthy new installment in the franchise that only occasionally stumbles in a few places here and there.
