Austin Suther's Reviews

I'm from North Carolina and a 2018 graduate of UNCW. I like writing and I like gaming, so I combined my two passions. I also love to read fantasy.
3.5 / 10.0 - Kingpin Reloaded
Dec 13, 2023

Kingpin: Reloaded is a remaster gone wrong. With unpredictable performance issues, terrible AI, and barely improved visuals, it's hard to suggest this game for anyone at the moment. (Review Policy)

4 / 10.0 - Exodemon
Aug 28, 2019

Exodemon fails to deliver fun gunplay or exciting level design. It has minimal music, uninspired weapons, and little story to speak of. Exodemon feels like a boring shooter that cannot emulate what makes 90s shooters so fun.

4 / 10.0 - Fallout 76
Nov 24, 2018

Fallout 76 is a total mess. It's filled with bugs, terrible AI and ugly graphics. Worst of all, it feels like there's a good game deep down in there, but it's limited by technical faults. Still, there's some fun to be had if you like the Fallout setting or progression.

4.5 / 10.0 - Scathe
Aug 31, 2022

While the gameplay concept of a labyrinthine shooter holds some promise, the gunplay is flat and mowing through enemies is extremely tedious. On top of this, graphics and some technical issues make Scathe feel rather rough around the edges.

5 / 10.0 - Battle Axe
May 1, 2021

On the surface, Battle Axe looks and sounds like an amazing retro throwback. When you dive into it, you'll find a lack of accessibility options and bland, uncompelling gameplay.

5 / 10.0 - Godfall
Nov 18, 2020

A disappointment in almost all areas besides combat and graphics, Godfall feels more like a next-generation showcase than anything else. A boatload of stats and unsubstantial loot are just some of Godfall's major problems.

5 / 10.0 - Cloudpunk
Apr 28, 2020

Although the city of Nivalis is beautiful and feels super cyberpunk, every other aspect of Cloudpunk falls flat. The gameplay is unexciting and voice acting is too bad for its own good.

5 / 10.0 - Fantasy Strike
Jul 24, 2019

Fantasy Strike delivers on its promise to make a fighting game easy to pick up and play. It's simple to get the hang of, and characters actually have cool abilities. Still, it's lacking in content, lacking in a player base, and plagued with AI issues.

5.5 / 10.0 - Forgive Me Father
Apr 6, 2022

Forgive Me Father is a painfully average shooter that has a lot of good ideas on paper, but never executes them effectively. As a result, its disjointed areas, upgrade system, and overall level of polish leaves much to be desired.

Bright Memory: Infinite looks great, and the combat is fun. Everything else, like its platforming and story, fails to captivate and leads to an overall poor experience.

5.5 / 10.0 - BELOW
Dec 24, 2018

If you like to unravel a mysterious world that doesn't hold your hand, then you might find something in BELOW. If you're looking for an action-packed roguelite, BELOW is not it.

Although the gunplay felt solid and there's a lot of replayability, Midnight Fight Express' sloppy controls, poor story, and rather mediocre graphics make for an average-at-best experience.

Star Wars: Squadrons provides fulfilling and authentic gameplay, but fails in almost every other department. The story, map variety, and technical performance are subpar and keeps me from coming back.

We. The Revolution looks great, and the courtroom gameplay is interesting and kept me coming back. But, if you're looking for a fleshed-out or comprehensive RTS experience, you'll be sorely disappointed.

6.5 / 10.0 - Wrath: Aeon of Ruin
Feb 26, 2024

Wrath: Aeon of Ruin's gunplay is tight and fast-paced, but it doesn't stand out with mediocre level design, low enemy variety, and overall aesthetic.

6.5 / 10.0 - Necrobarista
Aug 26, 2021

The narrative dawdles around and fails to achieve much, and it doesn't run that well on the Switch either. The appeal here is in its visuals and soundtrack; otherwise, Necrobarista- Final Pour simply wasn't a captivating visual novel.

6.5 / 10.0 - Dark Deity

With technical issues and unexplained game systems, the clever map design and charming art can't make up for Dark Deity's glaring issues.

6.5 / 10.0 - Destroy All Humans!
Jul 27, 2020

If you thought the original was good, Destroy All Humans! looks and plays even better. Crypto-137 controls incredibly smooth and looks awesome in action. However, an unfixable, corrupted save file, short length and untouched voice acting are quite disappointing.

6.5 / 10.0 - XCOM: Chimera Squad
May 5, 2020

Riddled with many different types of bugs, XCOM: Chimera Squad is a hard sell. If you enjoy the setting and want another strategy title to play, this might be it, but you'll probably want to wait.

7 / 10.0 - Gundam Evolution
Oct 6, 2022

A solid hero shooter at its core, the gameplay is fundamentally solid and offers a decent variety in suits to choose from. Progression for suits is, however, glacially slow and map/mode variety leaves much to be desired.
