Its amazing what has been done with this portable Witcher 3 port. Yes the graphics are downgraded, yes it does not look as good as other versions but it is a well running portable version of a great RPG. You get a lot of game for your money and it is well worth your time and effort.
Overwatch is another great port for the Nintendo Switch, it runs great, looks great and is a lot of fun to boot. There is a lot more content to experience than when the game first launched and more to keep you invested. I really enjoy playing this game on the Switch and its perfect for short bursts of fun in handheld mode.
The only thing that marred this fun VR romp, in my opinion, is the length of the game. I would have liked a few more levels to explore and more animals to find. What is there though is well made, beautiful and fun to play. At the end of the day, that is what is important, I had a great time playing it and so did my family.
Streets of Rage is an excellent and well made game. Whether your a fan of the series or a newcomer, it is fun and addictive experience. The developers did a great job of making it feel like the old games but also make it have a fresh and updated feel to it. Right i'm off to beat some more people upside the head with a pipe.
Down the Rabbit Hole was a great surprise, it is short but very, very sweet. It controls beautifully, its incredibly well designed and everything just works very well. This is very important in VR games and this title suits VR perfectly. Its bright, colourful and not too taxing. So why don't you take a little glimpse into a land of uncanny fantasy? You will not regret it.
Pixel Ripped 1995 is chock full of clever ideas, mind-bending scenarios and very well designed gameplay sections. What goes along with that is a very well thought out VR implementation, a great control scheme and easy to understand, fun, familiar gameplay. I loved playing this quirky title, its like nothing else I have played before and I adored it.
It's rarely I can say this but for me The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners had dragged the VR platform forward. With its perfect VR implementation, its brilliant control scheme and its visceral combat, it a pure joy to play. A nasty, gruesome edge of the seat joy but a joy nonetheless. Brilliant.
With this collection you have portable versions of three classic video games. Not only that, they run, look and perform almost flawlessly. I do not know what sorcery was used to get these games to run this well on the Nintendo Switch but its a joy to behold. Right, i'm off to play Bioshock in bed.
From Bowling to Darts, from Mancala to Mahjong, everyone should be able to find something to love in this collection. If you have friends or family to play multiplayer with, the fun is multiplied massively. It does not matter how you want to play, one console or multiple consoles the Nintendo Switch is is a perfect platform for this lovely collection of classic games. Right, where are my kids? It is multiplayer time!
Budget Cuts looks great, plays amazingly, is well designed and a lot of fun. Barring too much time spent in load screens, I loved every second of it. It gives you the various tools you need to succeed but leaves you free to explore and work your way through the game how you wish. If you have a PSVR headset then give it a go, its a brilliant game.
It’s not very often a video game captures the imagination of everyone in my household. We are a massive board gaming family so that may have helped somewhat, giving the themes of this interesting little Nintendo Switch title. Dicey Dungeons, as the title suggests combines two of the greatest things in gaming; dice and yes you guessed it, dungeons. It feels like someone has definitely been peeking at my Christmas list. With a lot of dice and random dungeons, count me in!
You may be wondering why we are reviewing What The Golf? again when it was reviewed already over a year ago by our good selves. Well, it has had no less than one thousand new levels added in a recent update adding even more madness into this eclectic, uncanny package. I will cover the game a little because this is perhaps the first time you have heard of the game.
Oh boy, this one’s a doozie! I remember playing Metroid and Metroid II when I was a wee bairn, all those distant sepia-toned years ago. At the time they were revolutionary. Where am I going? What am I doing? It was all so novel. They were brutally brilliant and I remember scratching my head over and over, working out where to go next. Good times! I have loved every Drinkbox Studios game I have played. I loved the uncanny Mutant Blobs Attack, the Guacamelee series is one of my favourite Metroidvania’s ever created and Severed was so brilliantly unique on the PlayStation Vita. Their art style is unique, their gameplay rewarding but most of all, everything Drinkbox Studios make, is fun and let’s face it, that is why we are all here.
I have a long-time affection for the Monster Hunter series. Ever since Monster Hunter Freedom on the PSP back in 2005, I have hunted more Rathalos than you can shake a Gunlance at, I have carved more tails than you can count and it has all been glorious. There is something great about joining up with three friends and stripping a huge dragon, using its parts for better gear and getting deep into all the intricate systems that litter the fabric of Monster Hunter.
Ahhhh, nostalgia, there is something warm and fuzzy about returning to something you remember vividly from your childhood. Monkey Island is a series I played a lot growing up and it was a blast returning there recently. It is a lot different now though on the Nintendo Switch, if you had told me I would be able to play Monkey Island, on the go when I was a nipper, I would have laughed in your face but here we are. Isn’t technology great?
If you had told me a few weeks ago I would have been reviewing Just Dance, I’d have told you that you’re off your rocker. Don’t get me wrong, I did very little dancing overall but I did a lot of watching my family prance around my living room like nutters. I like to throw some shapes now and again, but others in my household love this game a lot more than I do. I can see why to be fair, if you love to groove, there’s nothing better on the market.
Roguelike, you say? Card battler? Deck-builder? In the vein of Slay the Spire? Well, why didn’t you say so? I adore Slay the Spire and adore roguelikes, so surely Pirates Outlaws (which I think is a weird name) will be a surefire hit. Load your pistol, grab a parrot, and let’s sail the high seas! AAAARRRRRGGGGGGHHH!
Rewind back to 2001, young Sebby was playing an amazing, turn-based war game on his Gameboy Advance called Advance Wars. He was besotted by the cartoon art style. The amazing pixelated skirmishes took up a lot of time, as did moving tanks and destroying his enemies. Times were good man; times were good.
I had seen a few videos and heard rumblings about this game when it was released on the PC. The world went a little mad for it, and to be fair, I now can see why. I was not, however, ready for how addictive this little gem could be. How can a game with no buttons, just using a thumbstick, be so bloody moreish.
