Andrei Dumitrescu's Reviews

I have been playing video games since the early '90s, fascinated by the possibilities of this new digital realm and I have been writing about the video game industry for about ten years, trying to cover as much of the interesting news and games as possible. I tend to like strategy games and role-playing experiences but I have a healthy respect for any title that can deliver an innovative take on a genre, even if it fails to impress when it comes to graphics or story.
6.5 / 10.0 - Banished

The outlook of the Shining Rock Software created game is too bleak and, while it might inspire some thinking about the future of mankind as resources dwindle, it's unlikely to keep gamers coming back to play.

Line of Defense Tactics – Tactical Advantage has a few solid ideas when it comes to the actual gameplay, but the presentation and the story are not up to par and the game cannot deliver anything similar to already established franchises like XCOM or Jagged Alliance.

6.5 / 10.0 - The Golf Club
Sep 2, 2014

The Golf Club can be a good investment for purists and the editor is a great piece of work, but this is also a game that lacks attention to details at times and suffers because of that.

The Forest Cathedral is an interesting experience but does not fully work as a video game. The narrative it is telling is based on a real-world person but introduces many elements that are anachronistic to the period and to her life. Maybe the main character should have been named something else and her story should have only hinted at the real-world scandal surrounding DDT and other pesticides.

The company would do well to deliver both Pack 2 and Pack 3 of the Nova Covert Ops for Starcraft 2 at the same time, even if players have to wait a little longer for it, and to also find interesting ways to tweak the mechanics of the franchise to make the missions unique and solid enough to support a new major storyline.

But The Political Machine 2016 can also serve as an entry-level video game for those who are interested in politics and its limits serve as a good way to push a player to find out more about the process and to cast his votes only after careful consideration.

Deep Space Reflections is a good, niche game that will certainly find plenty of fans among those gamers who spent time trying to find new ways to make their limited funds last for as long as possible in the arcades of old.

7 / 10.0 - Clandestine
Nov 13, 2015

Clandestine takes a great idea, the fact that spying is a two man job and delivers carefully balanced gameplay mechanics, both for the field operative and the hacker, that are easy to understand but hard to master.

Ancestory has an interesting core idea, but the game in its current state fails to deliver enough variety or keep gamers interested in the long-run.

7 / 10.0 - Animal Gods

Animal Gods feels incomplete in many ways, an experience that showcases some intriguing gameplay and a unique world but fails to flesh out either of them.

7 / 10.0 - The Park

The Park is an interesting attempt to offer a spin-off experience for those who love The Secret World and to deliver some Halloween appropriate content for gamers who are interested in psychological horror.

DiscStorm has a core that's well designed and engaging, especially when the player faces enemies who are able to throw their own discs and move around well.

Starpoint Gemini 2 is a very solid entry in the space simulation genre and a dedicated gamer can spend tens of hours exploring every area of the included Gemini sector, finding cool secrets and battling a range of enemies, some capable and some not.

Resident Evil Zero HD Remaster is a relatively unappealing game when evaluated from a modern point of view, but a good one for those who experienced it for the first time before 2005 and fell in love with its mechanics and story.

Hatoful Boyfriend is at times barely a full video game, but at the same time, this is an experience that would be impossible to integrate into any other medium.

Valkyria Chronicles is an interesting title that certainly takes some of the core ideas of the Japanese role-playing game genre and twists them in innovative ways, but the whole package has not managed to fully capture my attention.

Men of War – Assault Squad 2 is a great entry point to the series for those who have not played it before and also makes a solid addition to the collections of all longtime fans as long as they have even the faintest interest in playing with other humans rather than only the Artificial Intelligence.

The development team at Daedalic Entertainment has created an enjoyable experience, but one that asks players to accept its quirks if they are looking for hours of solid but unexceptional role-playing gameplay.
