Mortal Kombat 1 is one of the most fun and spectacular 3D fighting games of the last 10 or 15 years. The gameplay is extremely accessible for anyone to enjoy, but there is enough depth to be discovered to reward the most dedicated, even more so now with the Kameo. Combining this with its superb graphics and sound quality makes Mortal Kombat 1 a game of strong appeal to fans of the genre. Modes like Story, Invasion, and Towers mean strong single-player content and long hours of gameplay for lots of fun built with strong jig. If you want to embrace online, get ready for a lot of time in Practice mode and hundreds of hours of playing.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is a hymn to fun and technology, above all, it's a hymn to the PlayStation Studios method. Insomniac Games deserves kudos for the way it has gone beyond the original in fixing its problems and more effectively marrying the open-world design into a balance to enhance the focus on storytelling and strong graphical ambitions. It's a treat to the eye, the gameplay is accessible but super fun and the way easter eggs and fan-service are used to make even optional content practically mandatory is a lesson for the rest of PlayStation Studios.

By combining metroidvania design with the essence of Prince of Persia, The Lost Crown becomes a majestic game, inserted in an already well-known genre, but with its own ideas and electrifying. At some point, the gameplay became so much fun that I found myself thinking that the game just got everything it did right. Ubisoft is to be congratulated because it has achieved a game of great caliber and capable of grabbing you to the point of making you forget the passage of time.

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth has done a lot to reinforce the phenomenal feeling we're experiencing through some of the most exciting weeks in video game history, outside of the electric holiday months. Between Persona 3 Reload and now this majestic effort from Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, Japanese productions show a brilliant ingenuity in balancing their essence, expanding their scales and refining them to attract more audiences. It's one of the best Japanese games I've ever played and arguably the best effort from this studio.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is pure magic in the form of interactive art. I found myself thinking about how majestic the original on which it is based is and how ambitious it was for the time. We can only describe as phenomenal what Squaresoft has managed to do with the limitations of height. Playing Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth makes you feel like you're playing a game from that era, with an emotional campaign full of impactful moments, supported by a huge world to explore. It's easy to lose track of the hours exploring these various places for secrets, always looking for easter eggs and curiosities that greatly reinforce the sense of discovery and wonder. The original is my favorite game of all time and Rebirth deserves to be featured alongside it.

Diablo 4 is a game that reveals enormous competence in all quarters on the part of Blizzard, and a strong understanding of what a loot-focused dungeon crawler should be. The campaign is a footnote in the overall picture of Diablo 4, but get ready for the core mechanics and the endgame, where you'll easily find yourself surrendering to the gameplay cycle to progress through difficulties and constantly manage the highest risk vs. the greatest reward. The depth and robustness of class management and customization, the activities and the fun of the gameplay make Diablo 4 a very special game.

Final Fantasy 16 has become one of my favorite games in the series and despite the problems of inconsistency in pace and quality (those fetch quests are really banal), the good is really good and that's what prevails. I confess that the linear design with larger areas is a breath of fresh air in the middle of the huge open worlds and I loved the action combat that pulls for your talent. The Game of Thrones-style storytelling and the use of Final Fantasy lore in such a bold way are worthy of applause.

Blasphemous 2 is the perfect example of a game made in the image of the classics of yore, but fully aware of the current contexts. As metroidvania, it is a game that is differentiated by its images and themes, but the difficulty of the gameplay and the demand it places on you are within what you are already used to. In an era where FromSoftware inspires more and more talent, Blasphemous 2 is yet another fine example of indie studios following the masters.

There are several epic, stunning-scale moments in which FromSoftware's artistic ingenuity prevails over the texture quality of an often austere and empty industrial world. It's a tough game, but the strong performance allows this strategic gameplay to put in your hands the customization of the path to victory. The upshot of this is that I would never have imagined putting Armored Core 6 among my favorites of the year.

Lies of P is a game capable of winning over the biggest fans of masochistic action games, but it will require some patience. Its linear design combined with the relative lack of difficulty, only existing in a few boss fights, highlights the lack of pedigree of this Korean team, but it is a first effort with interesting points. In the second half, Lies of P gives a better air of gracefulness and ingenuity, which makes us excited about the future of this team.

Tekken 8 is like riding a bike, you might feel like you're looking at a game that changes little from the previous one, it can almost be described as an update, but its quality is phenomenal. The new fighters are a lot of fun to use, the graphic quality is stunning, the story mode entertains and Character Quest perfectly fulfills the role of a traditional Arcade mode. With a new focus on 3D space to bring the community together, Tekken 8 is positioned for an energetic and electrifying long ride with plenty of fun on the horizon.

Persona 3 Reload takes a cult classic, from an era when the series didn't enjoy such global popularity, updates its visuals, applies all the improvements and refinements of Persona 5 Royal and then some, to make it a game that will taste great to all those who delight their taste buds with experiences of the genre. It may prove to be simpler and less ingenious than P4 and P5, but it's a stylish, captivating and fun turn-based JRPG.

With Unicorn Overlord, Vanillaware presents another fantastic proposal in which it combines its characteristic visual trait with an experience of strategy and management. By removing the focus from the combat itself, the developer is able to introduce its personal stamp to an already high-quality genre, which combined with the exploration design, progression, side stories and overall storyline make Unicorn Overlord the best game ever made by Vanillaware.

7.5 / 10.0 - Zombotron
Apr 27, 2019

Zombotron is interesting and noteworthy, but the repetition makes the game tiring. For those that don't have the patience to repeat the same level, again and again, the alternative is to get good or get out.

7 / 10.0 - Neo Cab
Oct 16, 2019

Neo Cab asks a lot of interesting questions about precariousness, automation, social control through technology, data usage, and especially how to hold on to your humanity in a monopoly under unregulated capitalism. The execution of the game is questionable, but it can be worth it to give it a look for fans of narrative-focused experiences.

Exoprimal turned out to be something unexpected for me because I couldn't imagine enjoying playing it so much, because when it comes to the gameplay, it manages to wear that electrifying and frenetic tone that I love so much at Capcom. However, the design that forces you to repeat the same mode (with few maps) to progress the narrative and get rewards such as cosmetics or modules, will test players' patience too much. Despite the electricity of an arcade-tone Capcom-leaning Overwatch-influenced experience, the PvE gameplay with final PvP stage makes Exoprimal a lot of fun and even different, but the design and structure around the gameplay leaves me totally confused.

- GYLT
Aug 9, 2023

Gylt is a short game, lasts about 4 hours, is simple in its design and execution, but manages to entertain. Visual aesthetics are its strongest point, the use of a child as the protagonist means that it is better to avoid confrontations. While survival horror, Gylt feels like an initiation game designed for the younger ones, as it is not scary and the resource management is minimal. It is based on the same pillars on which the great references were built.

Although the aesthetics suggest something in the style of Tecmo Bowl and an arcade experience, Legend Bowl is an unexpected bet on simulation, which uses its 16-bit look for a mixture of nostalgia with well-established feet today. Despite being able to amuse those who notice the NFL or want to dedicate the time to learning, with the focus on statistics and simulation, it still lacks some refinement and improvements to become what you really want to be. Maybe in a sequel.

Oxenfree 2 is not exactly the best representative of the term sequel, but it is a supernatural point and click adventure that values the points they conquer in the first. With adult characters and dramas to match, the walkie-talkie expands the drama, with more decisions that make you feel the pressure caused by the scarce time allowed by the dynamic system of dialogues, for greater immersion in the adventure. Add to this slight occasional puzzles and Oxenfree 2 may even be better than the first, but it is not a sequel that rises far above the original.

Thanks to modes like Franchise and Superstar, Madden NFL 24 manages to stream fun, even for those who won't even play online or bet on Ultimate Team. It's a shame that EA Sports' efforts to improve gameplay result in issues that actually hurt it, like the animations. You often see visually awkward moments where the game is clearly transitioning sharply between animations. Improvements in this aspect and in the latency in the menus would help Madden NFL 24 immensely.
