For history buffs, especially the military history wonks, Company of Heroes Collection falls in "must-have" territory. The game has multiple difficulty levels so you can ease your way into it and replay for a while to test your skills, and the Switch control system doesn't get in the way as much as you might expect. If you like a good RTS or you like a good WWII game, this is a very good title to have in your Switch library.

If you can handle the level grind and upgrade treadmill, Event Horizon – Space Defense is a fun arcade action/adventure role-playing mash-up. If you need more player engagement, the level grinding can become a bit mundane.

While it may not be critically riveting, Potato: Fairy Flower is a game that is simply meant to be played and enjoyed. There is some storytelling, some sense of adventure, some pattern learning and an adversary to overcome. There are also some areas where it could use some polishing, but taken for what it is, this is a fun game.

8 / 10.0 - Tower of Time
Jul 6, 2020

Tower of Time provides a detailed combat system that requires plenty of tactical thinking, so you get good value for money. There are points which could be refined, but as it stands, this is a good game for strategy/RPG fans.

8 / 10.0 - Star Renegades
Dec 19, 2020

Star Renegades is a highly replayable puzzle/strategy RPG with a couple of interesting twists and loads of play time. Although the path through the game is linear, the rougelite features keep things from being overly repetitive. This is a good value and a solid entry for the Nintendo Switch.

8 / 10.0 - Disjunction
Feb 23, 2021

Disjunction is an action/arcade RPG with an effective emphasis on stealth combat-you can't just stroll through shooting people. The look and feel of the game are slightly nostalgic, and there is some variety with the three characters you get to play. If you like sneaking around, this one is a fun option.

Cosmic Top Secret is a fun adventure/puzzle game. The odd presentation may strike some as just being weird, but I think it's quirky enough to be both different and engaging. If you are geared more toward action games, this may not be your thing. But if you like detective stories, this is a good option.

8 / 10.0 - Defend the Rook

Defend the Rook is a rogue-like tactics game that's challenging enough to make you earn your victories while keeping you ready to try again when it beats you. If you like strategy games, this entry is worth adding to your Switch library.

8 / 10.0 - Swordship
Dec 31, 2022

The platform and theme are simple, but Swordship is not easy. Its take on shmups is unique, its visuals are interesting and its story is just enough to inspire the whole "be the hero" ethos. If you like dodge-em games this one is a good addition to your game library.

Taking all the elements of visuals, variety of characters (with more available via DLC), attacks, environments, replayability, single and multiplayer modes, and overall challenge, Rumble Fish 2 is a good 2D fighter to have ready to go.

8 / 10.0 - Akka Arrh
Feb 28, 2023

Akka Arrh is a great arcade throwback with some cool, vintage vibes. The cost of the game at the time this review was published is a bit more than I might jump at, but the action and trippy visuals will keep you busy testing your arcade skills for a while.

8 / 10.0 - Helvetii
Mar 7, 2023

As an action/adventure game, Helvetii falls just a bit short on some elements of gameplay and storytelling. However, it's still a solid entry with very appealing looks, sounds, and mechanics.

The horror adventure game, Bramble: The Mountain King, effectively contrasts terrifying imagery with the pastoral scenery of its Nordic setting. Horror isn't generally my thing, but the compelling story and captivating music were more than enough to carry me through this dark tale.

8 / 10.0 - Pirates Outlaws
May 3, 2023

The price may be a bit high for a cartoonish card game, but Pirates Outlaws is fun and light-hearted. Better, it has good playability and re-playability with its numerous locations and different heroes to engage in epic battles.

Kickback Slug: Cosmic Courier is a pleasant little diversion with a dash of sarcasm, a pinch of difficulty, and a sprinkle of silliness (leave out the salt; our hero has some issues with that ingredient for some reason). What the game lacks in depth, it makes up for with simple fun.

The turn-based card battler Reigns: Three Kingdoms may not be exactly what you think when you first start, but it's a good game worth adding to your deck-building library.

As the checkered flag comes down on RISE: Race the Future, it has finished strong. The graphics, the driving mechanics, the tracks, the vehicles, and the play-time are all very good. The game is fun to play and challenging enough to keep you coming back for more. Even if you normally don't get into racing games, RISE is definitely worth having in your Switch collection. Unfortunately, the lack of multiplayer is a significant omission that we can't ignore.

Sisters Royale is a colorful, tongue-in-cheek take on the classic shmup format. On the upside, you get to play through the game as five different player characters. The down side is it doesn't take very long to play through, so the replay value is in trying to beat your last score and to run through the levels on harder settings.

7.5 / 10.0 - Vaporum: Lockdown
Apr 30, 2021

As a grid-based, first-person, action/adventure RPG, Vaporum: Lockdown offers plenty of gameplay elements to keep you busy. The dungeon-crawling game play is straightforward and not overly complicated, despite a good number of puzzles sprinkled in. In short, this is a solid prequel to the original Vaporum. Have fun exploring.

7.5 / 10.0 - Crash Drive 3
Jul 30, 2021

As a single player game, the arcade racer Crash Drive 3 can feel a bit empty. But it'll very likely be a real hoot for the kids who just want to explore and goof around. As a multiplayer game, it can be a free-for-all blast.
