Star Ocean: First Departure R does its job of bringing First Departure to the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, but fails to do much beyond that.

The Dimension Shellshock DLC is a great addition to TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge. Both characters are meaningful additions that are fun to use, although Karai takes a bit more effort to learn, and the survival mode has me hooked.

It's not often that I walk away from a game without a few positives from the experience. Typically even when things go awry there are good ideas underneath the flawed execution, and I can see what the studio was going for. That isn't the case with Touhou Kobuto V: Burst Battle. Everything from its presentation to the gameplay seems poorly thought out. This is one worth avoiding by all, as there's not even any enjoyment to be had in a "so bad it's good" sense.

There was a real opportunity for DYING: Reborn to shine on virtual reality, but the end result feels like a cruel joke.

15 / 100 - Joe's Diner

Nothing is redeeming about Joe’s Diner. It’s a poor execution of a dull idea and one of the worst games released on PlayStation 4.

2 / 10.0 - We Are OFK
Aug 17, 2022

We Are OK takes constant shots at game development while trying to replicate being a television show and making subpar music; it's a piece of art that is insecure being within its own medium that also manages to be a multifaceted failure.

There have been some bad PlayStation VR launch titles, but most of them just felt broken or like an extended tech demo. That isn't the case with 'Weeping Doll,' as it works as intended most of the time (although it's very easy to end up staring at the back of the protagonist's head). The faults here are far deeper, as there just isn't anything interesting to experience. It's a bland horror game that doesn't offer anything mechanically satisfying, and ends on an absolute whimper.

'Ace Banana' isn't a particularly fun game when it works, which makes all of the issues I ran into even more damning. There is room for a good archery game on PlayStation VR, but this isn't it. Its wave-based gameplay only serves to mask its lack of content, and even a charming aesthetic can't redeem this poorly designed game.

Homefront: The Revolution has bigger problems than its myriad of technical issues. Sure, the constantly freezing of the game to save is jarring, and the game as a whole is largely unpolished, but even when everything works it just isn't captivating in any way. Pass this up.

Payday 2: Crimewave Edition is an embarrassing, broken release that should be avoided by consumers and is a black eye on the current state of video game publishing.

Ben-Hur doesn't succeed as a game or as an advertisement for the film. In fact, all it's really good for is some easy achievement points.

Anima: Gate of Memories is a classic example of a developer trying to create something bigger than they're capable of. The game attempts to be a grand RPG with platforming and puzzles, and yet it fails to pull off any of those mechanics off.

XBlaze Code: Embryo is largely untouched from the original console versions, which is a major disappointment considering it's now on PC. Not only is it lacking basic options that are expected in a PC release, but the same flaws are also apparent.

Hopefully, Caligari Games can learn from this and make something better in the future but this is one gigantic miss and perhaps one of the worst games of the year.

3 / 10.0 - Moorhuhn Kart 2
Jun 4, 2022

It’s a poor racing game that would’ve been blown away by the likes of Crash Team Racing, Double Dash, and other kart racers of its era, let alone the newer releases that it now competes with.

Destroy All Humans: Clone Carnage isn’t a good reason to pre-order Reprobed nor worth the budget asking price as a stand-alone package. It’s a shell of a multiplayer experience that only will appeal to those desperate for a local split-screen game to play and looking to relive the terrible tacked-on multiplayer modes that were more commonplace 15 years ago.

Stranger Things 3: The Game won't appeal to fans of the television show as it's a frustrating experience that reminds you of all of the high points of the third season but never actually reaches them itself. Instead you are stuck with a bunch of dull fights to get through, bland puzzles to solve, and reading pieces of dialogue from the show without any sort of performance by the actors. Don't tarnish your memories of the third season by playing this.

If the concept of having sex isn't the funniest thing to you, then you won't find much to like here. Beyond its failing humor, all that is left is an uninspired adventure game that isn't particularly fun to play since the puzzles are never interesting to figure out. Even a franchise like Leisure Suit Larry deserves better than this.

3 / 10 - Bike Mayhem 2
Feb 22, 2016

Bike Mayhem 2 is the opposite of going mountain bike riding. There's no exhilaration to be had, just boredom, as the game never seems to end. The uphill climb is littered with free-to-play aspects that would be barely tolerable on mobile, let alone on a console where players paid money to play. Sadly, there is no payoff for aspiring bikers, and this is one downloadable title that is better off in the dirt.
