Whenever anyone asked how Borderlands 3 was running on Nintendo Switch, my response was “about as good as you expect.” That was quite early on. My response now would be “get ready to take breaks,” not because you’ll need to take a break from the game, but the sudden pauses will make you take a break, and they get worse the further you go. If you have any other way to play Borderlands 3, that will be a better option. If you only have a Switch, the game is fine and can still be enjoyable, just be ready to exercise some patience.

Bakugan: Champions of Vestroia is a pretty enjoyable few hours and certainly fun with friends. Just make sure they’re around the same area as you since you use your single player team to fight them. It’s not a massively long game if you just aim to play the main missions, but if you’re in it to tackle everything, you’ll add a fair bit of playtime.

5.5 / 10.0 - Fight Crab
Jul 29, 2020

There is no real hidden shine to it, what you see is what you get. It’s not bad by any means, but the novelty of fighting crabs wore off fairly quickly, resulting in turning into a slightly janky, slightly frustrating brawler with no real sense of direction. Fight Crab will likely be a fun party game, but only time (and booze) will tell how much fun it will actually be.

6 / 10.0 - Death of a Wish
Mar 21, 2024

Overall, would I recommend Death of a Wish? Yes, unless you deal with motion sickness in any way shape or form. I didn’t feel like I did, but Death of a Wish certainly proved me wrong. It’s a fun game to play, but I had to take a break more often than I do in most games. Hopefully with future updates screen shake and motion can be adjusted and that will make it a nice simple and straight yes, absolutely pick up Death of a Wish.

6 / 10.0 - Berserk Boy
Mar 8, 2024

Overall, I found it hard to enjoy playing Berserk Boy for more than one level at a time. By the end of a tediously long level, and being handed some enemies attacking the hub, I was ready to switch to pretty much anything else. I don’t need to play the same levels with a different colour scheme and the enemies in slightly different positions over and over again to know that I’m not having fun.

6 / 10.0 - Risen
Feb 12, 2023

The long and short of it is that Risen is a fun action-adventure RPG. It is very rough around the edges, not to the extent of some other games in the genre that came out around the same time (looking at you, Two Worlds), but it has charm. If you’re a fan of Oblivion, or Skyrim, and want to see another game that has a similar style, this might be a good pickup.

6 / 10.0 - Sonority
Jan 2, 2023

That is essentially the ups and downs of Sonority. It’s not a super long game by any means, but it’s a nice little game for anyone that is into puzzlers, especially if you’re particularly into music and its theory. Sonority isn’t revolutionising the genre, but the usage of music and understanding of notes and scales could be good for anyone younger who is into or looking to have a better understanding of it.

End of the day, coming into Dragon Ball: The Breakers expecting the stress of Dead By Daylight is going to be disappointing. You can fight back, as running is only part of the strategy. While it has the bad guys from Dragon Ball Z, there isn’t a huge amount that makes this feel like a Dragon Ball game outside of the title. The lack of customisation is disappointing, especially for the raiders, and not being able to queue solely to play as a raider made it take incredibly long to finally get in a game as one, let alone getting to play a few to fully get the feel for it.

6 / 10.0 - Youropa
Oct 11, 2022

If you’re into Portal, The Talos Principle, or any other game that forces you to think outside of box or in other creatives manners in order to solve puzzles, Youropa is a decent pickup. The amount of levels and collectibles throughout the game will give you plenty to do, and so much customisation means creating your perfect character. All in all, it’s a solid, if somewhat forgettable experience.

Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance II is literally the same game, since it’s a direct port. All the best parts, and all the flaws, all are still prevalent in this release. It does feel a touch better thanks to upgraded hardware, thankfully no areas have slow down, while some sections early on in the sewers felt a bit sluggish originally.

A game you sit down and play for ten to fifteen minutes a day minimum and help to build your cognition. If you struggle with problem solving, if you like puzzles, or if you just like to keep your brain active, Active Neurons 3 should be right up your alley.

The Dungeon of Naheulbeuk: The Amulet of Chaos might not be very impressive, but it’s a decent game at the end of the day, with a couple small bugs that could easily get patched out that may have simply not been noticed. Considering its indie nature and small team, though, it’s still quite alright.

6 / 10.0 - WARTILE
Apr 2, 2020

While graphically Wartile might not be much of a looker, the gameplay is where it really matters, and although the game started off a bit tough to navigate, once you’re through that hurdle, it’s quite an enjoyable experience, especially if you are into Dungeons & Dragons or Warhammer.

Devil Inside Us is actually quite a decent time, despite my pretty low initial expectations. As much of a coward as I am with horror games like this, I had my occasional fun (and massive jump scares) with it, when it decided to work, of course. As previously mentioned, it was a somewhat glitchy experience at times. Still, it wasn’t half bad, and somewhat worth checking out if you need some frights, or anything remotely close to an exorcism-like game in your life.

6.5 / 10.0 - AK-xolotl
Oct 6, 2023

I enjoyed AK-Xolotl and think it deserves most the same love other games in the genre get. Sure it might be easy to glance over because of how many roguelike/roguelites there are, but at this point surely you’ve done everything there is to do in Enter the Gungeon and want to play something similar, so here’s your chance. The idea of being able to build various characters that have different stats, like The Binding of Isaac has for its characters, is a great implementation. I hope if this game does well there’s more to add in the future, but if not then it’s still a fun experience and a great game to play “casually” (as casually as you can play a bullet-hell) for a run or two at a time.

6.5 / 10.0 - LONE RUIN
Jan 21, 2023

There could definitely be some balancing with the weapons, and bosses, as the bosses can feel like way more of a challenge than any of the enemies depending on your setup. That said though, it’s a very okay game with a lot of potential so maybe in the future with a few balance patches, it could stand on its own two feet for Hades fans waiting for the second game.

Battle League features a HUGE gap in content that Nintendo is promising to patch in with post-launch updates, but that really doesn’t help anyone who decided to buy the game at launch. Online play is just as you would expect from the Switch, replaying cups just isn’t enjoyable, and quickplay just kind of exists. If I wanted to turn on a game to play for 5 minutes, plus the time the game is paused for each goal (something that doesn’t happen in football), I would be much more likely to turn on something even like Super Mario 64 or Super Mario Sunshine, where you can knock out early levels that quickly. Yet another disappointing Mario sports outing on the Switch.

6.5 / 10.0 - Roguebook
Apr 21, 2022

Roguebook certainly needs some adjustments, between long wait times on cards being played and scaling of difficulty in the later chapters. Those issues aside, however, there’s a lot to love in here. It has some great ideas, beautiful art design, and some fun gameplay… when it decides to run properly. Roguebook has the potential to replace Slay the Spire in this style of game, it just needs some tweaks.

If you liked Tetris 99, but like me, aren’t good at Tetris, this may be a lot more your speed. Super Mario Bros. 35 is fluent and responsive, but is missing some components that have made Tetris 99 more than just a novelty and turned it into something people play consistently. At the end of the day, if there are no quality of life updates to Super Mario Bros. 35, the player base may leave before the match end date anyways.

6.5 / 10.0 - Minecraft Dungeons
Jul 1, 2020

Minecraft Dungeons does promise that DLC is coming, whether this ends up just being a cash grab to add a couple extra levels is yet to be seen. All we can hope for is that this will give fans of the game a reason to return to the game and give a reason to grind out levels and gear, otherwise, Minecraft Dungeons will surely fall to the wayside.
