9.3 / 10.0 - Desperados III
Jun 30, 2020

Desperados III is the kind of game that prioritizes fun above all else, and it manages to do so without sacrificing the oomph of its story or depth of its mechanics.

8.2 / 10.0 - Dread Nautical
May 22, 2020

Dread Nautical is chock-full of charm and finds the perfect balance of difficulty to be accessible to someone who’s more interested in story than advanced tactics while still having appeal for genre veterans at harder settings.

2.3 / 10.0 - Daymare: 1998
Apr 28, 2020

It almost feels wrong to be so harsh on Daymare, because a lot of the gameplay issues seem to be things that could be fixed if it had come from a larger studio with more time, money, or hands to put into the project. It does seem that the developers were very earnest and passionate about making their game and if it were more fun or interesting to play I could look past the poor writing, but unfortunately, there are just too many flaws for me to recommend it in good conscience.

Liked-a-lot - Heaven's Vault
Jan 28, 2021

Quibbles aside, I did greatly enjoy Heaven’s Vault. All of its major design choices are artistically brilliant without sacrificing the more visceral thrills of its gameplay, something which many other “games as art” titles have an unfortunate tendency to do. It’s a bit on the longer side – especially if you play through it twice, which is encouraged by the developers – but it’s well worth it, especially if you play it cuddled up on the couch during what remains of winter.

Disliked - Maze
Nov 8, 2020

Maze tries to be an atmospheric and relaxing experience, but what little atmosphere it may have been able to achieve is marred by its plethora of design flaws and bare-bones gameplay. Many of the details found within served to actively detract from my enjoyment of this title. I can’t in good conscience recommend it to even the most casual of switch owners, especially not at its seven dollar price-point.
