Unscored - Skully
Aug 4, 2020

As it is now, Skully is a game I have reservations about recommending. Whether or not it would be easy for the developers to remedy the qualms that I have with checkpointing, as well tightening up the controls and whipping the camera I couldn’t say, but I’m hoping that there is a way for those fixes to happen eventually so I can get back to playing at some point. For as problematic as it is now, I’m more than willing to give it another shot in the future if that somehow comes to pass.

If the quality of these ports is any indication, we only have to win if they keep coming out as good as Horizon Zero Dawn: The Complete Edition and it’s also a good way of amping even more of the gaming audience up for its recently announced sequel’s release sometime next year.

It helps that Fall Guys is currently available as a PlayStation Plus free title, so if you’re a subscriber and still haven’t tried it out, this is the best time to do so. But even at its regular price it can still prove to be a worthwhile pickup, if only just for the laughs you’re sure to get out of it.

Willy Morgan and the Curse of Bone Town might be a short game, but it still delivers a fun and unobtrusive point ‘n click adventure worth checking out.

Unscored - Panzer Paladin
Aug 12, 2020

Retro-inspired games are a dime a dozen these days, and even so Panzer Paladin manages to set itself apart from the pack by offering a unique gameplay twist, extreme quality platforming, and a really cool anime aesthetic that you would be really remiss for overlooking. If you’re in the market for a great game to play with a decent amount of challenge, Panzer Paladin is a fantastic option on Nintendo Switch and PC (Steam).

There’s not a whole more to go on about Alto Collection really. If you can, be sure to pick it up during the free week at the Epic Games Store and give these breezy games a go. You can’t go wrong.

I would be lying if I said I didn’t expect a wildly different game than the one that I played in Banner of the Maid simply because of its screenshots. They do not do the game justice. They’re chock full of cleavages and while that’s certainly a way to garner a large portion of the public’s interests for obvious reasons, and they don’t do enough to show that there’s much more to the game than mere fanservice. This is a competently put together strategy RPG that happens to feature a lot of that, to ultimately its detriment. On the other hand, if you can look past that, you’ll find that Banner of the Maid not only plays that part really well but is also an amusing twist on history.

Unscored - Mortal Shell
Aug 18, 2020

While not nearly as sprawling or complex system-wise like the Souls games, Mortal Shell is an elegant and contained game that benefits from the more limited scope set by its developers and succeeds in providing a substantially shorter but incredibly tight and rewarding experience that does justice to its inspirations.

Aug 26, 2020

I will be even happier with Wasteland 3 once it’s patched and most of the bugs that bit me end up getting squashed. Even in its current state I’m having a grand ol’ time bringing some justice to the cold depths where no Ranger has dared to before. But for as much of a blast as I’m having out northeast in the cold, I hope I can make it back to sunny Arizona in time to save my fellow lawmen!

Even if AWE doesn’t exactly tie a bow in regards to Alan Wake, it’s a very good sign of what may yet come to be for our fashion disaster of a friend.

For what it’s worth, Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time had no business being as good and fun as it is.

For as shallow in terms of providing a bone fide simulation of soccer as Captain Tsubasa is, it more than makes up for it by providing an exciting portrayal of the anime as a game.

Witcheye is an eye-popping game in all of those departments, not just as a cheeky pun for closing out a review. If you’re looking for a unique kind of platformer to play, be sure to check it out.

Marvel's Avengers is an average character action game with a fun single player campaign. Unfortunately it’s saddled with a tiring, formulaic and repetitive mission-based multiplayer that hinges on gear score progression and feels tired and wholly unnecessary.

Unscored - Star Renegades
Sep 10, 2020

I was more indifferent than anything about Raw Fury’s previous release, West of Dead, but I can without a doubt say that I’m anything but that about Star Renegades. Its solution for making a roguelite more playable and adding depth to the inherent repetition is one I’ve enjoyed most up till now. While I haven’t quite saved the universe yet, I know I’ll get there if I keep trying.
