9 / 10.0 - PGA Tour 2K21
Aug 26, 2020

Ultimately, PGA Tour 2K21 represents a triumphant return for the series after its five year hiatus. Any minor issues with the game are easily overlooked thanks to the striking overall quality both visually and mechanically. Whether you’re a novice or veteran, PGA Tour 2K21 provides a standout golfing experience sorely missed by fans of the sport and video game series.

As a definitive remastering of the 2010 original, this makes an already amazing game even better. None of the changes we see are massively drastic but all-in-all they all complement each other to make this the best way to play Xenoblade Chronicles.

The Wii U might have a bad rap, but anyone who owned one knew how good the Wii U game library was. Hence Nintendo keeps porting Wii U games to the infinitely more popular Nintendo Switch. As someone who owned and played the heck outta the criminally underrated Wii U, this isn’t my first time playing Super Mario 3D World. That was back in 2013, however, this Switch port breathes new life into it and is also bolstered by new addition, Bowser’s Fury. It couldn’t have come at a better time, either, with plenty of people like yours truly needing an injection of joy into their life.

Mortal Shell has left me fuming at times but the game’s impressive visuals, combat, and atmosphere will keep pulling me back for quite some time yet.

To be perfectly frank, I did find WRC 9 to be a very difficult game. Maybe it’s partly down to my rustiness in the racing genre, and the fact I’ve been playing more arcade racers like Forza lately, but it’s safe to say it’s a difficult but rewarding learning curve.

8.5 / 10.0 - Spellbreak

Overall, Spellbreak is unbridled fun as you and other mages do battle with various elemental powers. It keeps the core of what makes the battle royale genre successful whilst adding in its own unique gameplay, charm, and character.

with the addition of My Team F1 2020 is more than worth the upgrade from F1 2019. Growing a team from scratch is a challenging yet rewarding experience that has a meaningful pay-off as you improve over the seasons.

8.5 / 10.0 - FIFA 21

FIFA 21 also sees the return of the VOLTA mode that was introduced in FIFA 20. VOLTA is the street football mode akin to the old FIFA Street games. My biggest criticism of VOLTA in FIFA 20 was the fact that it couldn’t be played online with friends. Thankfully, that has since been rectified in FIFA 20. VOLTA Squads allows you to play with up to three friends online. Modes range from 3v3 up to 5v5 and whilst it’s not my go-to mode, VOLTA offers something different and fun.

Visually, Immortals: Fenyx Rising is just as charming as its dialogue. It’s best described as a mix between Breath of the Wild and Fortnite. The result is a charming, colourful palette that really brings the world to life in a cartoonish way. On PlayStation 5

Between the platforming, every level features a smaller-scale puzzle level. These can be some simple puzzles like pushing a bomb to dynamite. There’s some fun mini-games like the whack-a-mole equivalent puzzle.

Ultimately, The Last of Us 2 is a must-play title on the PS4. The sheer quality of the game on a visual and technical level all but guarantees that. I was amazed at what was possible on base PS4 hardware. The shortcomings of the story as a whole, especially in the denouement, left me with a feeling of disappointment. I am grateful I undertook this journey with these characters but in the end, the pay-off doesn’t live up to its predecessor and the ending, in particular, does not stick the landing that Naughty Dog intended.

All in all, Tennis World Tour 2 marks a notable improvement over its predecessor. Though, admittedly, that's not saying too much when you consider just how poor it was. This seems like a franchise on the right track now but there's a long road ahead before it can match and compete with other top sporting videogames.

5 / 10.0 - Twin Mirror
Dec 12, 2020

Twin Mirror ditches the episodic format and lasts roughly five hours or so. This may sound oxymoronic but it simultaneously feels too short and too long. Too short because there’s some interesting characters that feel underdeveloped. Too long because of how predictable the mystery is.

Her Majesty’s Ship puts players into the boots of an ambitious British navy ship captain in a race to become admiral. The primary objective is promotion to Admiral of the Fleet. There is, however, more layers to the game than that. Managing the crew, the ship, and engaging in naval combat is of high importance. Her Majesty’s Ship transports players back to the 18th century – the time of England’s naval rivalry with the Spanish and Dutch. If you’ve seen the Pirates of the Caribbean films, you probably know the gist of this era.

All in all, Destroy All Humans marks yet another great remake from the THQ Nordic team. It balances the line between keeping faithful to the original whilst sprucing it up enough to pass as a modern game. Some elements remain outdated but for some dumb, b-humour fun and wreaking havoc, you can’t Destory All Humans.
