Yes, yes and once again yes! Exactly such games the world needs. Valkyria Chronicles 4 has gone back to its origins, skilfully implemented and left the battle victorious with waving flags. The story of the title is incredibly exciting and you always want to know more. The fact that you have to select the individual story sections with pictures interrupts the flow of the story a bit. I was bothered by the fact that if you are in the middle of the story, the story is finished and the next picture has to be clicked. But here it should be noted that this is criticism on the highest level. Gameplay and the combat system are intuitive. You are always responsible for what happens on the battlefield. It's up to you where the unit is sent to and whether it survives. Only the evaluation after a battle I found awkwardly designed. There is simply too much emphasis on the speed of the conclusion. Because of the diversity of Valkyria Chronicles 4 I never got bored. Once I didn't feel like the story, which rarely happened, I continued the troop stories. If I wanted to learn more about my game world, I went to the accommodations and devoted myself to studies. Were there any problems with the level or the money? No problem, off to a skirmish. It was just fun to play such a wonderful game with unique characters. Anyone who is familiar with JRPG's tactics or just wants to start with such a genre will have fun here. Valkyria Chronicles 4 impresses with a breathtaking story, lovable and unique characters, enormous tactical behaviour and variety. Wow, great, tres bien, molto bene, that's all there is to say about such a well aged JRPG! Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition convinces with a wonderful environment, very well staged music and an incredibly twisty story. The only downer are the many quests. Due to the repetitive nature of the quests, they feel more like a burden than an adventure. Everyone who likes to play JRPG, for him Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition is a must buy. Even veterans who want to play the game for the third time will be rewarded with a fifteen hour additional episode. This can also be conveniently selected directly from the main menu, a play through of the original story is not necessary.

The train of Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel IV has reached its final destination with flying colors. A thunderous applause can be heard and the guests can leave the train confident and satisfied. The same was my feeling when I finished the final epic. The series has accompanied me for many hours and I wouldn't want to miss any of them. Also the end was not the actual end. If you really want to know everything, you have to make certain decisions that I don't want to go into here, but it's worth it in any case. Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel IV is the perfect end of the series. A thrilling story right to the end, forces every RPG lover to play the game to the end, even if it can take up to 100 hours. The sound is well done and makes fun to listen to. Especially the variety of different sounds made me add the tracks to my spotifylist. The only downer remains the look. The look has improved over the last seven years for the series itself, but is still not state of the art. I also really liked the combat system with the new features like Auto Battle or the huge Mechs that can be summoned. Everyone who played the series until the third part is forced to finish the final part. If you have never played an offshoot, you will have a hard time finding your way into the game. While it's not a bad idea to rework the story so far, it doesn't replace playing the series.

In short, Immortals Fenyx Rising is my game of the year 2020, it has everything that a good game has to have in my world. A setting which is fascinating and beautiful at the same time. The huge world just screams "Explore me, experience me", and I followed this scream with skin and hair. I found myself swinging onto my blue horse and just riding around in the area, simply because I liked the surroundings so much. The urge to explore is satisfied throughout the whole game and leaves nothing to be desired. If you want to do dungeons, no problem. If you want to improve the health bar of Fenyx, well, then you just have to look for it. You can invest more than a hundred hours in the game without getting really bored. The only thing that disturbed me was the funny slapstick humor that is present throughout the game. If you have a preference for Open World titles and can relate to Greek mythology, the title is a must buy. If you want to dive into the genre for the first time, the title is a must buy. If you want to make your dearest (gambling) person happy for the upcoming Christmas, then Immortals Fenyx Rising is a compulsory purchase.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon has made the leap into the RPG genre with flying colors. The story is kept exciting and you can't stop following Ichiban's vendetta. The abundance of side tasks can be a bit overwhelming for the player at the beginning. But once you have played the game for a few hours, you know the most important points in the city. Time passes very quickly when playing darts or karting. By no means you need to believe that these actions are a waste of time. You get personality points which finally strengthen the fighting actions. The fights bring a breath of fresh air to the row and put a smile on the players' faces. Through the different creative classes you attack the opponents with pigeons or wrestling moves instead of casting disdainful fireballs. Unfortunately, the invisible AoE range of abilities spoils the fun of the game. Also the unusually long races until a comrade reaches the enemy seem strange. A timeline showing the next actors would have been helpful too. If you like the Yakuza series and are open for new things, you definitely have to go for Yakuza: Like a Dragon.

Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy is the perfect entry into the gaming year 2021! The story follows directly after its predecessor. Despite the fact that the game takes place three years after the first part, you don't necessarily need to know anything about it. The story leads the player by the hand and doesn't leave him alone. The alchemy is as good as usual and the battle system is fun. Fast and crisp fights on three different difficulty levels invite you to enjoy the gameplay. Perhaps the only downer is that larger areas can take longer to load. Also, the fact that the audio output is only in the original Japanese version might deter some people. If you have played the first part, you will probably not miss this part of the series.

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury is an excellent collection that offers both tried-and-true and new content. If you played Super Mario 3D World back on the Wii U, you might have a hard time buying it. There are new features, but they are marginal. However, considering that Bowser's Fury is also included in this bundle, you probably won't be able to keep your hands off it if you're a Super Mario fan. Even though this part is only eight hours long, you'll be well entertained throughout the entire game. The open world characteristic is fun and I hope that the next installment will also have a completely open world.

8.7 / 10.0 - Scarlet Nexus
Jul 5, 2021

Scarlet Nexus is, simply put, an awesome game! An exciting story, two different perspectives, fun gameplay and different powers. I haven't played a JRPG that was this much fun in a long time. Of course, I can't neglect the negative aspects either. I would have liked to have an open world. A world where I can travel with Kasane different villages and cities and understand the story around the world better. Also, the cutscenes and the presentation are often very halting, which worsens the storyline by quite a bit. All in all, if you like JRPGs with hack and slash elements, you'll enjoy it. I also think that Scarlet Nexus could be a hot candidate for game of the year!

8.7 / 10.0 - Samurai Warriors 5
Jul 27, 2021

Samurai Warriors 5 is the best title in the Warriors universe! I have been playing the Warriors parts since Dynasty Warriors 3 and have experienced many lows and highs. But this title has so much to offer. An exciting battle system with different weapons that can be completely customized. The story, which is very close to reality. Admittedly, not everyone will like the story around Nobunaga Oda and Mutsuhide Akechi, but if you get involved, you will get to know an important part of the 15th century in Japan. Newcomers to the Warriors series will get a wonderful introduction to the franchise. Veterans will get plenty to do thanks to the different modes to keep the game fun for as long as possible. Now it's just a matter of going into battle and helping Nobunaga Oda unify old Japan once and for all!

Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling is an indie gem. The exciting look á la Paper Mario and the mature combat system, you will have fun playing the game throughout. You can also see the difficulty level. Quite early you get a coin where you can activate the hard mode. If the normal level of difficulty is not enough, you can safely choose the hard mode. By the adaptation with the coin, the modes can be easily switched on and off. If you want to shorten the wait for the new Paper Mario, you can confidently use this excellent title.

As a long-time One Piece fan, I am thrilled with One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4. The story goes all the way to Big Mom Arc and in just under 20 hours you get the main points of the story. The fighting system remains true to a Musou game. You fight your way through a level with a pirate of your choice and defeat several thousand enemies. The special abilities available to you are the graphic highlight. Each character has four attacks typical for the series. Also the innovation with the shield bars and the giant enemies brings fresh wind into the series. Unfortunately, the biggest criticism is the long waiting time for the loading screens. This aspect takes so much dynamic out of the game that it sometimes seems frustrating. Also the level of difficulty is not really demanding. At the highest of the three levels, there are isolated sections where you have to take more care. All in all One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 is the best part of the series. If you have fun in the One Piece universe and own a console or PC, the title is an absolute must buy.

NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139... will be able to build on the success of Nier Automata. With the incredibly exciting story, fantastic characters and the nimble battle system, every action RPG lover will get their money's worth. However, there are definitely deductions for the unnecessary waiting times between the areas. Also, the boring side quests (with a few exceptions) are not up to date. What is also not up to date is the graphics. Since this hasn't been pimped, you have the same presentation as it was on the PS3 back in the day. All in all, you can spend a lot of time in NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139.... The different endings let you see the story from different perspectives. There is also a completely new ending that can only be found in this version.

8.4 / 10.0 - Banner of the Maid
Sep 9, 2020

Banner of the Maid is a well done SRPG. The battles are crisp and hard, but once you have successfully completed the mission, you are even more proud of your performance. It is also pleasant that no fantasy setting or completely exaggerated story elements were chosen. The title reflects the French Revolution in its main features. One gets to know authentic characters like Napoleon Bonaparte, Marie-Antoinette or Maximillien de Robespierre.

8.4 / 10.0 - Trials of Mana
Apr 30, 2020

The remake of Trials of Mana has remained true to its origins. The story, good versus evil, is classic and twists and turns are not to be expected. Through the six protagonists, six different perspectives can be seen in the interwoven story. This allows the title to be played through six times. With a playing time of 20 hours per character, you get a lot from a game. Unfortunately not much can be experienced apart from the story. With almost no side quests, you are "only" busy with the main story. Also there is no local co-op anymore, which could disturb one or the other. If you played the original 25 years ago, it's definitely worth playing it again. New fans have to be satisfied with a roleplay without a lot of gimmicks. But if you get involved, you get a wonderfully animated game pearl.

8.4 / 10.0 - Langrisser I & II
Mar 13, 2020

A thirty year old game hasn't looked this good for a long time. The remaster of Langrisser I & II is a perfect success. The new character designs fit wonderfully into the modern game landscape. But if you want to have the original feeling like back then on the Sega Mega Drive, that's no problem either. With about 70 hours of different story paths, you have a lot to do with the bundle. Since the gameplay changes depending on the way you play, playing through the game several times is not boring. You have to endure the frustrating moments with the sometimes really stupid NPCs, but in the end you will be rewarded with an exciting story. There are not many strategy games that can hold a candle to Fire Emblem, but Langrisser I & II is definitely one of them. Strategy fans can take the titles with confidence.

Yes, I love the game! Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne HD Remaster does so many things right that a Japanese role-player would want. First, an exciting story that takes a bit to get going, but picks up tremendously as the game progresses. With a total of six different endings, you can dive more than a hundred hours into the game. Secondly, the combat system, despite its age, is not boring. No two battles are alike, and in the most marginal fights you have to be careful not to die. Only by cleverly using the press-turn system can you survive. But this level of difficulty has been greatly alleviated with the "Gracious Mode". This means that a wider audience can now have fun with the title. Only the annoying random battles dampen the euphoria. Last but not least, the collecting urge is more than satisfied in the title. With far more than a hundred demons and monsters, there are endless possibilities to put together your dream team. Also, many monsters can evolve as well, giving a real "Pokémon feeling". I'm confident that Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne HD Remaster will be a big seller. Perhaps this will see more Shin Megami classics get a re-release on the current generation of consoles. Also, this spin-off is the perfect preparation for the hopefully soon to be released fifth part!

Fell Seal Arbiter's Mark - Missions and Monsters is a tactical RPG like no other. Lots of professions that can be mastered and different skills. The story is quite predictable and the twists and turns are predictable. Also the graphics is not the strength of the game. But what is definitely convincing is the completely customizable difficulty level. Is the level too difficult for you? No problem, a few sliders moved and poof, the fight is already easier. Also the gameplay is fun in itself. The commands of the characters are intuitive and you won't find a nested menu navigation. If you look at the DLC, you can get an enormous extension of the game fun with about 10 Euro. New classes, a guild system that makes sense and tameable monsters. What more do you want? Tactical roleplayers who had their fun with genre representatives á la Final Fantasy Tactics or Disgaea will not be able to avoid a purchase. Even newcomers will be able to dive directly into the game action without having to experience too many frustrating moments thanks to the customizable difficulty level.

8.2 / 10.0 - My Time at Portia
Apr 16, 2019

My time in Portia was longer than I thought, because the game captivated me. The mixture of exploring and working on the field has become optimal. In My Time at Portia you don't have to watch the fields all the time. Because of the time gained, I was able to focus more on exploration. The world of My Time at Portia offers so much to discover and I wanted to see everything! The story has been well integrated into the overall game structure. You can't see the post-apocalyptic scenario in the game, but if you delve deeper, you can see the former world at every corner. What you can give credit to My Time at Portia is the fact that the game has been completely translated into German. Here and there there are gaps where there are still English text passages, but these are rarely seen and don't disturb the flow of the game. Also you can see the game's PC past, because the gamepad controls are very spongy in some places. You can also see this when you search or select something in the menu. All in all, My Time at Portia is a wonderful game with a few quirks. If you want to play a solid simulation game with an exploration factor, My Time at Portia will definitely give you a good time.

Rune Factory 4 Special takes the player into a magical world full of adventure and challenges. If you want to fill your virtual existence with fieldwork and explore the story of Selphia, the game will not disappoint you. The learning process is slow and steady, so that the player is not overwhelmed. When you've had enough of gardening, you swing on an animal and ride through the wilderness, beating up some monsters. The fighting could have been a little more challenging, but Rune Factory 4 Special doesn't want that. The title shines with a mix of simulation and RPG elements. This appeals to people who may not otherwise be involved with JRPGs. The new features are well done, especially the synchronisation is impressive. The developer would have liked to add some more graphic elements. The sprites look partly not well ported. If you feel like a fine mixture of Harvest Moon and JRPG, you will definitely get your money's worth.

8.1 / 10.0 - Bravely Default 2
Mar 20, 2021

Bravely Default 2 convinces with its gameplay mechanics in all cases. Even though you have to be aware that the difficulty level is already hard as nails on the normal setting. You don't need to have played the predecessors for this spin-off, since the game tells its own story. It takes some time for the story to pick up speed. But once you reach this point, you won't want to turn off the console. If you liked Octopath Traveler, you'll definitely enjoy Bravely Default 2. If you are not a fan of turn-based, lengthy JRPGs, you should reconsider the purchase.
