It aims to plunge you into a charming and childlike fairytale world where you battle the darkness to save the light. With the subtle and soothing melodies of its outstanding soundtrack and the lovely visuals, I'd say this game has accomplished exactly that. Child of Light is a solid coming-of-age bedtime story for both children and adults alike. It's just simply enchanting, is what it is.
With the emergence of Transistor and Child of Light from earlier this year, it's getting harder and harder to argue that video games are merely there for entertainment and have no artistic value at all. Transistor strikes a fine balance between being an enjoyable video game and a cyberpunk piece of art.
Unfortunately, playing through this game once was more than enough for me. While Abyss Odyssey is undeniably a very good-looking game, the stiff controls coupled with minimal exploration and a boring ambient soundtrack makes the abysmal abyss a slog to go through.
Overall, The Last of Us Remastered is a solid title for the growing PS4 library and it's perfect for anyone who gave the game a miss last year to jump in. As for players who have already experienced the game on the PS3, I'd say this is a great opportunity to take another dive into the game's universe, especially if you loved it the first time you played it.
Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney is a game that I’d recommend to any fan of either series.
For players looking for a harsh, cruel strategy RPG to play, this game could be right up your alley, though you might find yourself turned off by the lack of reward for trying to think outside of the box. While I'd highly recommend Natural Doctrine to masochistic players, it is likely that most people will get tired out by the game's restrictions within the first few hours.
The game's cheesy tagline captures it perfectly: every second is a story. I couldn't have said it better myself.
With all its technical upgrades and incredible attention to every little bloody detail, the mansion looks magnificent and the game fulfills its purpose in reminding fans why we fell in love with this series in the first place. Sure, I do miss the campy live-action intro (who could forget the suave, Val Kilmer look-alike Albert Wesker slicking back his hair?) from the original PS1 version.
The Order: 1886 isn't a terrible game by any stretch of the imagination; it's just a massive disappointment that failed to break new ground. It's a shame because you can tell that a great deal of effort went into building this alternate version of 19th century London, and boy is it gorgeous.
Resident Evil Revelations 2's first episode is a strong start to the game and the only fault I can find with this method of release is that the next episode can't come out soon enough. Penal Colony provided just the right amount of backstory and twists to leave the player wanting to find out what's next in the story.
With that said, Contemplation certainly doesn't let up in terms of action and horror. The increased variety in enemy types and game mechanics is certainly welcome, and with the story picking up too, it will be exciting to see how the mystery unfolds.
Episode 3 has pushed the story of Resident Evil Revelations 2 into overdrive and there's little doubt that this is the strongest episode by far. Judgment keeps up the pace with its plot twists and breaks the action up nicely by throwing in some pretty elaborate environmental puzzles into the mix.
And in case you were wondering, yes, you do get to fire a rocket launcher at the final boss. After all, it's not a Resident Evil game without that timeless weapon.
Despite its few shortcomings, Type-0 gets a lot right. It brings back the old-school charm of the series while experimenting with various new mechanics with a good degree of success.
It is a shining example of what RPGs should be: an experience that makes you believe that you're truly part of a game's world and that you have a very real stake in it. That's exactly what Wild Hunt has achieved here.
If you’re nuts for strategy RPGs, I wholeheartedly recommend that you get Lost Dimension.
But how does it stack up as a Metal Gear Solid game? As the final entry in the series, can its ending and its out-of-left-field plot twist really be accepted as the ultimate farewell to this long-running story? Not unlike the man who sold the world, MGSV feels like it’s lost its way a little, resulting in an ending that feels strangely unsatisfying. As tempted as I am to praise the game for its crazy plot twists and overdramatic moments, it’s hard to do so, knowing that this insanely wild ride ends not with a bang, but with a whimper.
Dancing All Night looks like it’s set to be the final game before we have to say goodbye to our favorite cast of characters in Persona 4, and I’m perfectly fine with that. The Investigation Team solves one more mystery, and they’ve once again reminded us never to lose sight of our ‘true selves’. I’d say that’s a job well done.
So then, Tales of Zestiria, senpai knows you tried really hard, but maybe with a little bit more time and polish, you could've done a lot better. Better luck next time.
The Old Hunters could not have dropped at a better time. After months of being away from Bloodborne, the game has once again wormed its way into my life, and once again, it's all I can spend every waking moment thinking of. Now if you'll excuse me, I have more new weapons to hunt down.
