Although sometimes underrated, particularly for its confusing and convoluted narrative design, there is no doubt that Chrono Cross was, in many ways, exceptional for its time. Even in the present day, Cross is still deep, resourceful, and a benchmark of gameplay and narrative synergy for non-linear design within its genre. Radical Dreamers is also an expensive piece for Western fans who have waited decades for a localization and brings an interesting alternate version of the early events in Chrono Cross, also adding to reflect on the gameplay and music of the JRPG. Even considering it's a low-cost collection, Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition could be better, especially in battle performance. However, there is no denying that the team's other efforts to bring these titles to the new generation of consoles are commendable, especially Chrono Cross, which remains a great recommendation for JRPG fans.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is a port with deleterious issues on several levels. And its narrative restructuring, while better developing some main characters, also follows new directions that leave “fleas behind the ears”, in addition to introducing new characters and some unpublished scenes of little use. However, the balance is much more positive. This RPG is a must for fans of the franchise and the genre in general, and is also recommended, with reservations, for those who are fans of the PlayStation original in particular.

8.5 / 10.0 - Omori
Jul 15, 2022

OMORI is accessible, has creativity and depth in its narrative design, illustrations with personality and charisma, and a sensitive and well-written cast of characters that brings to life one of the most memorable groups in indie RPGs. The title is recommended for psychological horror lovers with sensitive themes, RPG retrogamers and mother-like fans.

8.5 / 10.0 - Live A Live
Aug 6, 2022

Despite an undeniable simplicity and superficiality in plot and level design, Live A Live remains interesting and subversive as a JRPG in a highly accessible, varied, creative and fun way. The remake is consistent with the proposal and greatly improves the experience and the technical part. The game is recommended to any JRPG fan.

8.5 / 10.0 - Roadwarden
Jan 7, 2023

Roadwarden boasts charming, fitting art, immersive sound direction, and arguably one of the best-written texts in RPGs, with a particular emphasis on the expressiveness and social and natural richness of its world. The game is highly recommended for any fan of textually focused RPGs and lovers of serious interactive fantasy literature alike.

Company of Heroes 3 brings some clear visual and quality of life improvements to the series' excellent RTS formula. Furthermore, this title brings the most interesting, flexible and greatest campaign experience, even with its problems.

I Was a Teenage Exocolonist has a good soundtrack and great sensitivity in character building and gender relations, in addition to a unique simulation through narrative RPG and interesting mechanics based on cards that dialogue very well with its plot. This title is highly recommended for casual simulation and VN players, as well as narrative-focused RPG lovers.

Despite not being innovative in gameplay and leaving points to be improved in the HD2D style, as well as having a story that could be more organic and interesting, Octopath Traveler II has a lot of content, generally good protagonists, a beautiful and varied OST and a dynamic, versatile and accessible gameplay , with the care to respond partially or totally to the main criticisms of the first Octopath Traveler. This title is highly recommended for fans of classic style JRPGs from the 16-bit era and those who enjoyed any other Team Asano games.

There are specific points for someone to prefer the previous versions but overall the Final Fantasy I~VI in this version are superior in various aspects such as translation, music, and the visual upgrade (albeit a little modest). Overall, despite the simplicity in narrative and level design in the first titles of the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster and its scenery already showing their age, these Final Fantasy [games] still deserve [the chance] to be played for their historical and conceptual importance, and some of them (especially Final Fantasy VI) remain among the best games in the series. The collection is recommended for fans of the series who wish to rediscover its roots and it's also accessible for newcomers who wish to start the saga of the warriors of light chronologically.

8.5 / 10.0 - Planet of Lana
May 26, 2023

Despite the simplicity of some aspects, Planet of Lana features a well-balanced level design between a cinematic and puzzle experience, and a sensitive and reflective adventure about cooperation and harmony with technology and nature. The game is recommended for art game lovers as well as casual players looking for a good adventure experience in a few hours.

8.5 / 10.0 - Lkyt.
Jun 20, 2023

Despite significant limitations to the impact and scope of the plot, such as the ambientation and animation, and some choices that could have been further developed for the narrative, Lkyt. is a stellar visual novel. Particularly, it brings a rare BL experience in its critic and somber outlook into human beings and when exploring love in the midst of an unforgiving war. Due to the weight of some scenes and for not emphasizing so much the emotional impact of the couples, I wouldn't recommend it to any BL fan but if you have the guts to explore a tragic and somber world, it may be a fascinating and unique experience.

Capcom Arcade Stadium is a must-see collection for retro game lovers - especially shooters and beat 'em ups fans - and for video game enthusiasts. Many may not be entirely satisfied with the result of the Japanese company's work, but they will certainly only realize it after several coins spent on Capcom's emulated machines.

Save me Mr Tako is a title without great pretensions in the platform genre, but it manages to have a good soundtrack and to be very consistent in its gameplay and narrative. It is faithful to its influences, rescuing a nostalgic tone from that era and adding its own personality. However, a level design that is somewhat repetitive and subutilized game features are its main problems. Despite these caveats, Save me Mr Tako: Definitive Edition is an easy recommendation for platform game lovers who appreciate the aesthetics and gameplay of titles from the 8-bit era genre, especially the Game Boy.

Despite non-trivial performance issues that significantly detract from the experience, a simple game design in virtually all respects, and few innovations, Ys IX: Monstrum Nox still has the virtue of its predecessor in having a solid, accessible battle system, diverse and relatively balanced action-RPG, yet with some enhancements, plus a reasonably well-written story, well-designed characters and, above all, considerable refinement in vertical level design and exploration in and out of dungeons.

Given this overall balance, it's easy to see that Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom PRINCE'S EDITION (Switch) is far from an exemplary action-RPG, there are high points, but in almost all of them there are also drawbacks. The title would have a lot to be improved mechanically both in the level design of the missions and in the action and RPG systems. On the other hand, the work captivates both in artistic aspects and in the variety and accessibility of its game design.

Unlike The Isle Dragon Roars, Voice of Cards: The Forsaken Maiden's artistic and narrative choices make this title a much easier recommendation for fans of Yoko Taro, especially the NieR subseries. Although The Forsaken Maiden visually reuses a lot of its predecessor and evolves little in combat, the compositions are equally well done and consistent with the new proposal, and the exploration and especially the scenario and narrative design are significantly more inventive and refined, delivering a unique and accessible experience, recommended also for fans of tabletop RPGs and classic JRPGs.

8 / 10.0 - UUULTRAC
Apr 19, 2022

The main issue of Uuultra C is its plot and narrative format. It's true that the story isn't deep and can be very confusing, convoluted and filled with arbitrary situations, some of which, have appelative and controversial elements. However, the premise has a lot of personality and the execution isn't totally bad, especially due to the characters having good development. Besides that, when it comes to the visual aspect, this visual novel is the pinacle of ADELTA works thus far, being a highlight even when we consider BL VNs in general. On the music and soundtrack department, despite having drastic differences between its highs and lows, offers tracks that are reasonably well produced and fitting for the proposal. Therefore, this is a work that can be recommended to anyone who isn't afraid of something confusing and crazy and is looking for a good and unique BL with some good characters.

Tactical gameplay is both Symphony of War's strength and weakness. The systems are excellent and interact well with each other, but the level design is unfortunately poor and not very creative. The title, even so, is a great game, recommended for TRPG fans and especially for Fire Emblem fans.

Even considering its minimalist intention, Milky Way Prince: The Vampire Star is too simple in some of its visual aspects, such as the backgrounds, and the story could have been a little longer and more polished to better develop characters. Its senses system is interesting and offers a unique experience, but could have been more developed. Generally speaking, the game design is coherent and well made to represent a dysfunctional relationship, giving it strong personality, expression and immersion in a work with dense symbology and psychological themes of great relevance. The title is recommended for fans of experimental and reflective games, especially fans of romance VNs with a focus on psychological aspects.

South of the Circle is not visually interesting like the developer's previous work, and the poverty in its scenarios, the character animations that are not valued in that art even with motion capture, as well as the enjoyment of its gameplay, hamper the appreciation of its good history, which is still not without its flaws. On the other hand, the new game from State of Play Games has a competent musical and acting work and art direction, and brings good ideas in its narrative design, both in form and mechanics, approaching the academic environment with sensitivity in a way not much explored in video games and with an appropriate context of historical fiction in a cinematic tone. The game is recommended for adventure fans looking for a more mature narrative experience in romance, post-war historical fiction and academic life.
