Aaron Varshney's Reviews

Breathing in the fresh air of the Somerset countryside in the UK, I have been brought up around technology. Starting on the ZX-81 and the BBC Master, I have gone on to play computer games it what seems forever. An avid games collector of all kinds, the PC is primarily where my heart lies. I have been working on a freelance basis for other companies in the Games (20013), Game Editorial Magazines (Future Publishing 2007, PlayStation Universe 2014), and Web (1999) industries.
6 / 10.0 - Zotrix
Dec 9, 2015

Fun to play with plenty of replay value, Zotrix sounds the part but the clunky interface and non-nonsensical controls prove to be frustrating.

With such a splendid array of options, a wealth of content, and lengthy history lessons, Sébastian Loeb Rally Evo offers a fun rallying experience that WRC fans will like, especially with the grand variety of tracks at your disposal. Despite issues with both graphics and physics, Sébastian Loeb Rally Evo is a fun drive and a great starter game for those interested in the World Rally Championship.

6.5 / 10.0 - Foul Play

Foul Play looks great and it's very funny, but it's lack of depth and rigid combat system holds it back from receiving a standing ovation.

Though not quite the perfect package, Trackmania Turbo's strong community and solid gameplay should keep racing fans coming back for more.

9 / 10.0 - DiRT Rally
May 3, 2016

DiRT Rally is hands down the best rally game I have ever played – stand aside Richard Burns Rally, in fact it's the best Codemasters racing game I have ever played. Rally games have always been about accessibility and ease for the player and DiRT Rally went against the grain and came out on top. Amazing gameplay, brilliant aesthetics, the list is endless. You can tell the community has been involved and for that Codemasters has almost achieved Rally perfection.

7.5 / 10.0 - Battleborn
May 18, 2016

For a first attempt at an ever-saturating genre, Battleborn feels like it has carved its niche in a large crowd that is vying for supremacy. While the genre is dominated by League of Legends and DOTA, Battleborn has successfully broken through with its own take on the genre, added lots of fun characters, and a wonderfully bright colour palette

Valkyria Chronicles is a must-have for any tactical RPG fan,and even if you’re not a fan of the genre, the story is worth the purchase alone. Valkyria Chronicles is still one of the best tactical RPGs this century.

While Project DIVA Future Tone is a welcome addition to the PlayStation family, it most certainly doesn’t hold your hand when trying to master every song. Hitting that last note and realising you’ve got yourself a perfect or even scraping a pass is the most satisfying feeling ever.

Sublevel Zero Redux brings something new to the FPS genre. Despite it's minor oddities, it's a well-rounded game that deserves to be in everyone's library.

Despite the lack of character development and the occasional forced grind for gear, Dragon Quest Heroes II is a monstrously fun and childish game that will appeal to both grown-ups and children alike. It's witty script and adorable looking characters makes the game enjoyable to play throughout plus the sheer size of the customisable skill trees will keep Dynasty Warriors fans happy.

5 / 10.0 - Valhalla Hills
Apr 26, 2017

Valhalla Hills tries to bring The Settlers II gameplay up to snuff but while it improves in some areas, it completely negates some aspects on what made The Settlers II so much fun in the first place. Building and autonomy is done decently well but with the lack of continuation and multiplayer makes it pale in comparison. Its price for entry is very worrying too and doesn't help matters.

8.5 / 10.0 - LocoRoco Remastered
May 14, 2017

Other than the poor quality of the cutscenes, LocoRoco is filled with oodles of charm, a soundtrack that delights, and the most adorable characters in any game ever. There's no escaping the happiness you feel when playing LocoRoco.

For the amount of staff that worked on this game, they do have a good base to work from, but unfortunately there are so many issues that it detracts from being an enjoyable affair. Its sub three-hour gameplay has no replayability at all, and the consistently harsh frame rate dips heavily impact the game.

Overall, Eastshade Studio has a good setting primed ready for their main game, Eastshade. The environments are beautiful and the interactions are cleverly done, let's just hope that they sort out the mouth masks, the stuttering, blurring, and the framerate before Eastshade arrives.
