Super Mario 3D All-Stars Reviews

Super Mario 3D All-Stars is ranked in the 89th percentile of games scored on OpenCritic.

Super Mario 3D All-Stars is a lackluster collection of three (mostly) excellent, timeless games. Nintendo has shown us what it can do when the effort is put in with 2004's Super Mario 64 DS, so the lack of attention afforded here stings all the more.

All three of these games are representative of why Super Mario is such a great series. Though the ports for 64 and Sunshine have a few flaws, Galaxy feels absolutely perfect on the Switch.

This was the chance for these three titles to get definitive versions, but instead these are mostly alternatives to the originals. In spite of Nintendo’s low-efforts, the quality of the games themselves are high enough that make them worth your time. Super Mario Sunshine especially is noteworthy since used copies are usually cost-prohibitive and Gamecube controllers are getting harder to find.

A fantastic bundle with the best versions of these three games. A blast for old fans and a must play to new ones.

It is difficult to find a reason why someone who has a Switch does not purchase Super Mario 3D All-Stars. There is a certain lack of polish in the visual presentation of the collection, and it doesn't make much sense for Mario 64 not to run at 60 fps in 1080p widescreen in 2020. However, as much as this collection could be better, it currently offers the best way to play these three absolute classics of video game history.

The three games it encompasses are fantastic, so Mario 3D All Stars is still worth buying. However, Nintendo is, ultimately, coasting off of the back of some amazing work it did more than a decade ago to sell what is ultimately a disappointingly barebones, facile celebration of gaming's most important icon who truly deserves better.

The new Mario Collection is the perfect opportunity for anyone who fancies a bit of nostalgia. Only one last drawback remains: The release is strictly limited both physically and digitally, so you shouldn't take too long to make a decision.

It's tough because you should play the games, but this collection is only a must-have if you've never played them or have no means of playing the copies you own. Otherwise, the included soundtracks are not enough to make this 35th anniversary package feel special enough to warrant a buy.

Little effort was put into modernizing Super Mario 3D All-Stars, and somehow, that's still more than enough.

Playing three classic Mario games on the Switch is great, but I wish the collection could have offered a little more

On the whole, Super Mario 3D All-Stars is a decent collection. It doesn’t try to impress with extra features or fancy padding; it simply puts three games from the past in a simple collection for old fans to enjoy.

Super Mario 3D All-Stars is disappointing on the technical front while offering an immense gameplay potential. For fans of Super Mario Bros., there is absolutely no reason to skip on this collection.

Super Mario 64 was made 24 years ago. The most recent title within the collection would be the Wii version of the game, Super Mario Wii Galaxy Adventure, which is about 11 years old. If you don’t have the respective consoles to play your favorite 3D environment of the Super Mario titles, this collection bundle is a great addition to your library. Sharper graphics on the most recent consoles is definitely a plus. If Super Mario Odyssey was your first 3D based Super Mario game, it’s a good opportunity for you to try all the classics as well. The pricing may not be the most affordable but the port is near perfect and it serves the ‘collector’s item’ purpose pretty well. Don’t miss out on this limited time bundle as they’re only sold on both digital and on shelves until the 31st of March, 2021.

While a few nitpicks hold it back from absolute perfection, Super Mario 3D All-Stars is an amazing collection and a definite must-buy.

So if you missed these classic Super Mario games when they were originally released, then you should pick this collection up. However, if you loved these games as a kid and were expecting Nintendo to pull out all the stops and give them the technical update they deserved, you will feel a tad disappointed.

Super Mario 3D All-Stars is a limited time release in both physical and digital formats. We can only guess at the reason but whatever misgivings you have about the nature of the collection – or its position as Nintendo’s big fall release – it’s still an essential purchase. The three included games look better than ever and provide hours and hours of exquisitely designed, eye-bleedingly inventive gameplay.

If one wants to experience the masterpiece of Mario franchise, the game is a must-buy. Each of the games deserve more polishing, but now they seem just so outdated from graphic to UI.

If you’ve never played any of these Mario games, go ahead and take the plunge, but if you’re somebody looking for more, consider voting with your wallet and make Nintendo realize devoted fans deserve more than this. There are other compilation packs of great games with more effort put in for much less than $60.
